Police knocking on your door

Has anyone seen or read about Keir Starmer wanting the police to call on all the millions of people that signed the petition asking for another general election. I was watching catchup on You Tube this afternoon and a few of the social media stations were mentioning it.

What happened to free speech or is that no longer a thing in Great Britain.

MissAdventure Sun 01-Dec-24 17:37:38

I doubt that, somehow.

Cossy Sun 01-Dec-24 17:41:09

Sorry, this sounds rude and blunt, but I simply don’t believe this! He’s addressed it in person and there are 3 millions signatures and signing a petition simply doesn’t constitute breaking the law.

Who on earth would spread such nonsense?

Also, UTube and other social media sites are responsible for all kinds of dangerous and idiotic rubbish, they are not credible news outlets!

Anniebach Sun 01-Dec-24 17:42:03

I do not believe it

I thought oh my goodness, we are going to be a police state before long.

It’s hardly likely to be real, is it? Fake news and all that. Imagine, we’re forever being told how the police are stretched, so having them waste man hours knocking on doors of people who signed a petition is, let’s face it, ridiculous - don’t believe everything you hear/read on social media stations/platforms.

Ziplok Sun 01-Dec-24 17:44:40

“Remember”, not “imagine”.

Redhead56 Sun 01-Dec-24 17:46:05

Police do not exist where we are and haven't for nearly twenty years. I won't be worrying about a knock on the door anytime soon.

Ziplok Sun 01-Dec-24 17:46:29

I agree with you whole heartedly Anniebach.

I will be rude and blunt: why do people believe this shite and then share it 🤦🏼‍♀️

Parsley3 Sun 01-Dec-24 17:50:30

This is nonsense.

Ziplok Sun 01-Dec-24 17:51:28

Also, what are the police meant to say to all those millions who signed said petition? Honestly, it’s so ridiculous it’s laughable.

Ladyleftfieldlover Sun 01-Dec-24 17:55:29

I suspect that Elon Musk has a hand in this.

RosiesMaw2 Sun 01-Dec-24 17:57:46

I was asking if anyone else had heard it, I didn't say it was true. No need to be horrible about it. Wash out your mouth with soap and water.

pascal30 Sun 01-Dec-24 18:03:54

bonkers fake news.. my Nextdoor is full of complaints about police not following up on crimes.. so they're hardly going to waste time doing this..and even if they did what would they hope to achieve?

No spreading, just asking.

Quite!

Why would it be illegal to sign a petition asking for another election?

And, as it isn't - why would the police be knocking on petitioners' doors?

The claim has been amplified on TIKTOK and X (what a surprise) and SNOPES has fact-checked it.

X owner Elon Musk amplified a post about the petition, writing "The people of Britain have had enough of a tyrannical police state."

It's simply not true.

Dear God... hmm

Jaxjacky Sun 01-Dec-24 18:12:17

What a load of garbage, dear oh dear, your last sentence intimates you did believe it.

Maybe the police are looking for bots?

Oldbat1 Sun 01-Dec-24 18:25:58

If you believe that you will believe anything. I really despair.

mae13 Sun 01-Dec-24 18:37:23

It really wouldn't surprise me in the least. Nor would it surprise me if Fuhrér Starmer insisted we all had to swear an oath of loyalty to him, Robber Reeves and Angela Rayner.

The Sacred Triumverate.
