Son in law did have the chainsaw in his truck at the weekend, on his journey he did cut 2 fallen trees up and declined a request for a third. The policewoman who attended hadn’t been trained to use a chainsaw.

I don’t think we generally expect the police to be chainsaw trained.
How good are lumberjacks at solving crimes/catching criminals/directing traffic or dealing with crime scenes?

Probably better than police at solving crime.

Just had an hour's diversion on the train as a tree came down this morning. I checked all was ok before I left but still got caught.

I have used a chain saw and could do again if I needed to.

Chain saws come in all sizes, DH has recently bought a smaller one, because we no longer need a huge one and the smaller one is easier to use with the smaller wood he mainly needs to cut thes days.

*Every gran should have one, seriously if you are that worried take a flask of tea and a snack and wait for a man to clear it
Better option stay at home if you can.*

What a condescending post you wouldn’t even exist without a woman Try giving birth then tell me how strong you are 🤣🤣

I have a battery operated chain saw. The only thing is that it’s in my DBs car at the moment. He borrowed it today.

I do know one woman who can use a petrol chainsaw, my nephews wife, will do anything a man will do, shear sheep , drive tractors, load bales, she used to play rugby too.

I see round here there was a large trampoline blocking a road so not sure what use a chainsaw would have been! in another road a big blow up bauble from someone's outdoor tree was wandering round the village, thankfully soon reclaimed.
if you cannot get a chainsaw how about a beaver? very economical very eco friendly and could make a good car passenger if you mind the teeth!
seriously though dont forget a hi viz jacket so you can be seen the car hazard signs and a couple warm blankets or sleeping bag incase you get stuck.

I actually think chainsaws & Kango hammers are 2 things that men hire/ use without a qualm but women are discouraged from using.
Having hired a Kango for thick concrete ( the hireman told me if it was me using it I wouldn't be strong enough so I said if that's the case I'll ask my men to help) it is 200% easier than using a pickaxe. Not beyond my strength at all.
My brother uses chainsaws all the time I think ladder skills are as important as chainsaw skills when using them & I always climb the ladders when it's needed with us as DH is leary but I come from a long line of women who were up damson, plum, cherry trees even in late pregnancy, setting their own ladder, no questions asked. But if you need to climb a ladder & then use a machine, men will tell you it's not work for women. & women are far less risk-takers in general than men, so far safer with a chainsaw.

A man in his 40s has been killed by a tree that fell onto his van during Storm Darragh, Lancashire Police have announced.

The incident happened on Saturday morning on the A59 road near the village of Longton, near Preston, in Lancashire.

Police said the man was driving a Citroen van on the dual carriageway when the tree fell on to the vehicle causing him severe injuries.

Emergency services were called at around 9am and pronounced the man dead at the scene.

We have two chain saws. Both petrol. I'd happily carry one in my car but it wouldn't be any use to me because I can't start the ruddy things grin

Bellzy You may be better off starting a separate thread, so that you’ll (hopefully!) get responses to your question. It’ll get lost on this thread!

If your chainsaw is the car does that mean you cut up other cars? (Read the thread title grin)

Sit and ride chainsaw? 🤣🤣🤣

Certainly, in Denmark it might very well be construed as an offensive weapon that only a qualified wood-man who be able to argue he/she needed to carry around in the car.

Next point, unless you have one that runs of batteries, it won't do you a blind bit of good as however long a flex your electric chain saw has, you are highly unlikely to find a power point anywhere near the tree that is blocking the road!

I do not know how many people in the UK own a chain-saw. In Denmark, anyone who has a wood burning stove, a lot of trees on their property or wildly neglected hedges probably does own one. As we had all three of the above-mentioned when we moved here, my husband, who had learned to use one safely bought a chain-saw, and later a battery operated one , so I, who dare not use one, have two chain-saws in the work-shop.

Right now there are no gale warnings here, but obviously the safest course is not to leave home if the there are gale warnings.

Put chainsaw on your shopping list and you can collect one from the middle aisle when you go to Lidl- or Aldi.

Bellzy Sat 07-Dec-24 13:16:23

Hi all. Looking for suggestions for a small gift, under £20, for Other Grandma. We’ll be together for a couple of hours on Christmas morning and get on well . I could do wine and chocs but have reason to relieve that’s what she’s doing for me! She likes travelling, works part time in a primary school, is very talented with knitting/crochet, quite trendy but sensible. Any nice thoughts?

“If you are going down the chainsaw route please do not forget your safety goggles and/or face guard, ear defenders and safety gloves 🤣🤣🤣”

Much more important to have leg protection chaps, as well as the above of course. Most chainsaw accidents are to one’s own legs 😳

heavenlyheath Sat 07-Dec-24 12:07:51

Yes infoman stay safe at home still plenty of shopping days until Christmas🎅

Growing0ldDisgracefully Sat 07-Dec-24 12:01:21

Etoile2701 Sat 07-Dec-24 11:54:27

I haven't got a chainsaw ... or a car for that matter.

MrsMatt Sat 07-Dec-24 11:34:14

I have the next best thing. A son with multiple chainsaws and various cutting equipment. He's an arborist grin

Gymstagran Fri 06-Dec-24 15:21:42

It's weirdly very still here in west mids. Calm before the storm perhaps?

JamesandJon33 Fri 06-Dec-24 15:13:20

It is getting dark here in S W Wales and the trees are beginning to move. 3 o’clock the weather girl said. Not long now

Granmarderby10 Fri 06-Dec-24 14:42:42
