Good morning from a stormy Torbay where we have a severe weather warning for wind, moderate for rain.
As some of you noticed, I have been absent for the last couple of days. On Wednesday evening, I had to be taken by ambulance to a local hospital A&E because of a sudden, severe pain around my left hip which was replaced in 2017. After contacting 111, I was in touch with my GP who called the ambulance. Since I was unable to manage the steps outside where I live, the paramedics secured me into one of their chairs and carried me down.
As expected, the department was very busy but understaffed so it was a 10-hour wait before I saw a doctor, during which time I was in a wheelchair. Snacks and drinks were supplied. Sadly, I’ve had to withdraw from The Wind in the Willows.
By lunchtime yesterday, I was back home with a Zimmer frame then almost immediately other equipment deliveries began. I now have a perching chair, raised toilet seat, leg lift (looks like a dog lead!) and trolley.
What I lack is any adequate pain relief but I was able to contact the same GP who ordered the ambulance and she has put through a prescription for Co-Codamol. In hospital I was given oralmorph which provided wonderful pain relief but of course you’re not allowed to be on that long-term and unsupervised. Until the prescription is ready, I’m back to paracetamol! The GP is not satisfied and is arranging a CT scan, not least because of comments on my records made immediately after my replacement surgery, indicating that there was the possibility of a dislocation due to the new part not being firmly fixed. This is something I have never been told until now.
A night in my own bed, which has a very firm mattress, has helped somewhat but I’ve been advised to do little for the next week. The director has taken over my minor speaking part in the play. The rest was Chorus work.
Well done if you’ve managed to keep reading this screed!
Happy weekend! 🦩🥰🎄💐🦩
