Good morning from a windy mid Essex, it’s just getting light. Little or no rain as yet, no doubt it will arrive in due course. I think the dog may have a shorter walk than usual today. Lots of outdoor events cancelled today. I think that son in law & DGD1 will want to go and get a real Christmas tree if they have time today or tomorrow. Weekends are as busy as weekdays for them all.
ash I’m so sorry you are in such pain with your hip and hope you can have the scan soon and that the hip can be repaired quickly if it’s dislocated.
Have as safe a day as possible everyone.

Fishing presentation this evening so it's a busy day, we need to go to the club this afternoon to set up and I have food to prepare.
Ashcombe what a nightmare hope you get your pain relief soon and you dont have to wait to long for CT scan.
Stay safe everyone ☀️.

Morning Mick, morning All from our corner of Somerset firmly in red weather warning land.

It’s quite scary, if I’m honest I’m very scared. Wind is booming. Rain pounding the window. Too dark to see what damage may be out there. The Met Office latest update is wind speeds are 75+.mph It’s noisy! Mr C is firmly asleep. The joy of limited hearing.

All bus routes are suspended, all attractions cancelled, social media reports most retail outlets are closed until the wind drops, both Severn crossings are closed, our sea front is also sensibly closed, flood warnings pinged in overnight and yes, we had the very scary sirens on our phones yesterday evening. Local radio reports many a power cut. 🤞 here, lots of trees down. A few miles inland its much quieter, I hope it doesn’t tempt people to head for the M5. Will someone please remind me why I thought coastal living was a good idea? It is a bit too dramatic this morning.

It will pass of course, the worst should be over by lunch time when it settles to 50mph+ gusts for the rest of the day and into the evening. Much quieter tomorrow. Phew. Our friends are due to drive from Hampshire tomorrow afternoon, it should be OK by then.

Ash I’m so sorry about your hip. Hope today can be less painful and the scan arranged quickly. Be careful in the floods susan. What a weekend it’s been.

I’ll potter around and keep busy today. Stay safe everyone. Wishing you all the best day it can be.

Good morning from a wet and windy W Kent. Hoping to get out and about to visit DS but we shall see when it is daylight.
Ash so sorry to read what has happened and hope your painkillers arrive soon
Best wishes to those in the eye of the storm

Morning all from a very blustery S E Essex.

We brought the Christmas tree in from its restoration place yesterday (bucket in the garden) so I will have to decorate it today.

A quick pop to the local shops. first thing.

Ashcombe sending (((hugs)))

Not a lot of sleep as the wind from about 3.00am has been deafening and still is though the rain is less intense. An indoor day beckons so the cards will prove a welcome distraction, but I am in no hurry to start the day. Hope things get less painful, Ashcombe and that there is no lasting damage - very frightening. Stay safe, everyone.

Good Morning from Durham. Only rain here and just the odd gust of wind forecast. Builders due back at 8am today which should see the job finished.
Sorry to hear your news Ash and hope you get your pain managed and be scanned soon.

Best wishes to all. X

Jaxjacky Sat 07-Dec-24 07:09:21

That sounds horrendous Ashcombe I hope you get your pain relief today and a scan asap.

harrigran Sat 07-Dec-24 07:05:59

Ashcombe I hope you can get the pain sorted and sorry you had such a long wait in A & E.

Greyduster Sat 07-Dec-24 07:04:51

Ash what a nightmare for you. I hope you’re managing and that you have help. Take care.

RosesandLilac Sat 07-Dec-24 07:01:12

Good morning, ‘Tis somewhat blowy here and wet but I am hoping we’re on the edge of the storm here in south Glos.
Oh dear Ashcombe, I hope your hip improves quickly.
Yesterday I spent the morning doing housework and washing, there’s a pile of ironing for this morning after an early dog walk.
I’m hoping we don’t get a power cut, we’re rather prone to that here on the hillside because the lines run through the woods and are poorly maintained. I suspect there will be trees down on the lanes, a regular occurrence during storms again because there’s no maintenance of roadsides etc 🙄
At least I have no need to go anywhere!
Stay safe everyone 🌹

Greyduster Sat 07-Dec-24 07:00:56

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from a very wet South Yorkshire. No idea what happened during the night as I slept from 9.30 until 5.30 this morning. Unheard of for me. We are in for some very rough weather around lunchtime but fortunately I don’t have to go anywhere. I have a curry to make for tomorrow, will get the rest of my cards written and hope the roof stays on!
For those with red weather warnings, hope everyone manages to stay safe🙏🏻.
Have the best day you can, folks.

harrigran Sat 07-Dec-24 06:58:18

Good morning from a dry and still NE.
My sister, who lives a few miles away, was being battered by the wind. She does live on the coast and the sea is very rough.
Plumber came mid morning and serviced the boiler, all good for now. He told me about a house he had just bought and showed me a video on his phone. He was taking it back to bare brick and reconfiguring all the rooms. Lovely to see such enthusiasm.
SIL travelled back to Brussels yesterday and thankfully was not affected by the train delays.
No visitors today so may put up the Christmas tree.
Have a good day and stay safe.

Susan56 Sat 07-Dec-24 06:57:17

Oh Ash I’m so sorry😢I hope you can get adequate pain relief and don’t have to wait too long for the CT scan.

Such a shame about having to withdraw from Wind in the Willows.

I hope you are soon more comfortable.x

Good morning from Malta where it is cloudy with a high of 20°C forecast and a low of 13°C.

Last night I babysat the boys who were no trouble at all. DD3 and SiL promised to be home by midnight but it was nearer to 1.30 when they got back. I was worn out but kept quiet as I was glad they’d had a good time and didn’t want to burst their bubble.

I’ve to babysit again this morning, just eldest twin as littlest has been asked to take part in a study of children with asthma by the doctor who saw him at the clinic.

Your stormy weather sounds very worrying, please stay safe and don’t go out in it. Hoping it passes soon.

Oh no, I have just read your post Ashcombe, I’m so very sorry to hear you’ve been through such an ordeal and it would happen when you’re on your own. I hope you will get your scan soon so that the awful pain can be addressed. 💐

Take care all of you and have the best day you can.☀️

Ashcombe Sat 07-Dec-24 06:50:24

Good morning from a stormy Torbay where we have a severe weather warning for wind, moderate for rain.

As some of you noticed, I have been absent for the last couple of days. On Wednesday evening, I had to be taken by ambulance to a local hospital A&E because of a sudden, severe pain around my left hip which was replaced in 2017. After contacting 111, I was in touch with my GP who called the ambulance. Since I was unable to manage the steps outside where I live, the paramedics secured me into one of their chairs and carried me down.

As expected, the department was very busy but understaffed so it was a 10-hour wait before I saw a doctor, during which time I was in a wheelchair. Snacks and drinks were supplied. Sadly, I’ve had to withdraw from The Wind in the Willows.

By lunchtime yesterday, I was back home with a Zimmer frame then almost immediately other equipment deliveries began. I now have a perching chair, raised toilet seat, leg lift (looks like a dog lead!) and trolley.

What I lack is any adequate pain relief but I was able to contact the same GP who ordered the ambulance and she has put through a prescription for Co-Codamol. In hospital I was given oralmorph which provided wonderful pain relief but of course you’re not allowed to be on that long-term and unsupervised. Until the prescription is ready, I’m back to paracetamol! The GP is not satisfied and is arranging a CT scan, not least because of comments on my records made immediately after my replacement surgery, indicating that there was the possibility of a dislocation due to the new part not being firmly fixed. This is something I have never been told until now.

A night in my own bed, which has a very firm mattress, has helped somewhat but I’ve been advised to do little for the next week. The director has taken over my minor speaking part in the play. The rest was Chorus work.

Well done if you’ve managed to keep reading this screed!

Happy weekend! 🦩🥰🎄💐🦩

Morning from a blowy S Hants, no phone alerts here, stay safe those in the area karmalady.
gMattie you deserve an afternoon off, enjoy it.
Yesterday I went to the library, Tesco delivered and then we visited our local and caught up with friends.
Today my ears will be suctioned, moved from Thursday, newspaper day and a couple of phone calls to make.

I didn’t know about sirens GM for bad weather, is that straight to your mobiles?

On about 150 phones…

Good morning from Cornwall where the trees above my patio are thrashing around in 67mph winds. It's thrilling because I've nothing here that can be damaged. Our town centre two-day Christmas event is cancelled, naturally.

Sat with my poorly granddaughter yesterday, who's caught a lurgy which is going round the school. She was wiped out by it. Today I'll poke my nose outside and see if it's safe to walk over to Wetherspoons and then glimpse what the sea is doing from a distance, as I don't really want to spend all day inside.

Susan56 Sat 07-Dec-24 06:31:32

Good morning from Shropshire today.Wet and very windy.

I’m not sure what we will be doing today. Our town’s Christmas parade has been cancelled due to the weather which was the right decision but such a shame for all the people who have put so much work in.We will have to get the children home at some point. At the moment the lanes are flooded and the bridges on the main road are closed.

I hope you all stay safe with no damage to your properties.

Good morning from a very windy Oxfordshire, I thought we would miss the storms, it doesn’t sound as though it’s raining.

MzOops has to be collected from the train station this evening, but apart from that an easy day.

Stay safe everyone, a good day to stay indoors if possible.

karmalady Sat 07-Dec-24 06:12:37

Good morning from extremely stormy s somerset and very violent gusts here

All my deliveries came yesterday, unboxed and stashed in my kitchen, raised beds and water butts. The drivers needed to get off the roads today

Obviously a hunkering down day today. I have a knotted stomach, it is getting worse now that the calm eye of the storm has moved away

grandMattie Sat 07-Dec-24 05:58:46

Good morning from a stormy Bristol. Little or no rain, thankfully. I hope that none of you have had any/too much damage to your properties.🤞
DGD was singing with the Bristol Youth choir in my church last night. DD and Iris came to dinner, then we went on to the church. SiL had a gig of his own with his jazz group.
Just as the concert was about to begin, there was a symphony of sirens alerting us about the red weather warning. They carried on throughout the concert, depending on where the audience lived. Some of the girls in the choir (and Iris) thought it was imminent Armageddon, became very anxious and needed a lot of reassuring. Wonderful singing from the youngsters, lovely concert.
I was very tired having been woken up by a (totally unnecessary) text at 0330 yesterday morning. I scolded the chap from my Spanish class who had sent it. He apologised profusely. So I went to bed very early and, to my surprise, slept well. My window faces east, so I was in the leeward side.
This morning, I’m going to DD’s church to help make wreaths. They have a sort of workshop, some people put in an order which is where I’m to help, others make their own. I’ll miss making the Christingles for my own church this morning.
Quiet afternoon (I hope).
May you have a good day. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩
