The Chinese businessman, described as a close confidant of Andrew, has lost an appeal against a decision to bar him from the UK on the grounds of national security.

The appeal judges said this man held an unusual degree of trust from a senior member of the Royal family who was prepared to enter into business activities with him.

There are now demands that Andrew stay away from Church
on Christmas Day, I don’t agree with this

Really? Presumably only from all those who are without sin themselves.

Why should he stay away from church on Christmas Day?
What a bizarre thought.

Presumably only from all those who are without sin themselves. Let him who is without sin cast the first stone
🙏

I think it might be the family who are trying to dissuade him Annieb!

Anniebach Mon 16-Dec-24 16:57:41

He like everyone is entitled to attend a place of worship, and it is a family occasion not a public

Andrew is a prat - probably a lazy greedy one. BUT we all need to be aware that China has for years been very clear - a patriotic citizen does their best to advance China and China's interests at all times. It is up to us to watch our interests. (I say this having lived near the U of Warwick for many years) certain schools are targeted by China's students - ones of clear utility to a competing power.

Prince Andrew is desperately trying to hang on to Royal Lodge in Windsor Park, which requires a great deal of expensive maintenance. The King has offered smaller alternative accommodation, Frogmore Cottage, spurned by Harry but he has refused, claiming to want to pass the property on to his daughters, which is stupid as it is not his to leave. Hence the foreign 'aid' to provide the lifestyle he believes he is entitled to.
How he will earn any sort of income I don't know.
Hence the seeking of foreign

I agree with you about Andrew.
And Edward.

welbeck Mon 16-Dec-24 14:27:30

Exactly.
The implication was that when the nazis invaded Edward would be their puppet king.
He was in cahoots with them while living in France and then Spain.
Churchill had to order him to go to the Bahamas to distance him from nazi agents.

I now agree with you wellbeck, about Edward Windsor, after watching a shocking documentary which showed communications from him encouraging the Germans to bomb London. Yes, I was truly shocked.

Anniebach Mon 16-Dec-24 09:31:26

The Duchess of Windsor didn’t grab every microphone and beam at every camera, she didn’t push The Duke out of her way because she wanted to be first in line

Calendargirl Mon 16-Dec-24 07:29:17

Sorry, realise I have digressed from Andrew!

Calendargirl Mon 16-Dec-24 07:28:49

I’ve been watching ‘Edward and George- Windsors At War’ on channel 4, I think.

It was interesting.

You cannot help but compare the lives of Edward and Harry. So similar in many ways, although Harry didn’t ‘abdicate’, he just ‘stepped back’.

But the similarities are there.

The choice of wives, American, divorced, both men besotted with these strong women.

Had been close to their respective brothers, but no more.

Hurtful comments about the royal wives which were made public.

Tell-all books written by both Edward and Harry.

And the main thing, both men looking increasingly unhappy with their new lives, despite efforts to appear otherwise.

There is absolutely no excuse for the Duke of Windsor. He was a traitor pure and simple. I don’t think Andrew is in the same league as that, just dumb and arrogant.

welbeck Sun 15-Dec-24 09:06:25

I think the Duke of Windsor was more of a traitor than generally realised.
It is now well documented from contemporary sources.
See Andrew Lownies book
The Traitor King.

Edward was very close to the late Queen, he certainly did not follow the path of previous Dukes, he joined armed forces as his brothers did, jacked that in then involved in theatre, then
tv producer , married and took on royal duties, was very close to both parents

Unfortunately Andrew has become the stereotypical spoiled favourite child. Expecting everyone to think he is special and a prey for anyone who wants to get something out of him. For the Andrews of this world flattery really will get you anywhere.

I assume she has to make her own way in the world Anniebach, I doubt she has private means?

Well, she still lives in the same house as Andrew although I'm not sure of their arrangements,.

Anniebach Sat 14-Dec-24 20:16:12

She doesn’t make her own way she uses the ‘all the advice the Queen gave me ‘.

His ex wife has certainly been busy with public appearances and tv interviews

Jaberwok Sat 14-Dec-24 18:33:04

Andrew doesn't receive any public money, certainly not by being the Duke of York, that hasn't been the case for, I think, two centuries.or more. None of the RF are in receipt of public money except the King. Prince William gets his income from the Duchy of Cornwall, the others only if they're on public business.

I think this bit from the article says it all really

"A document listing "main talking points" for a call with Prince Andrew was also found.

It states: "IMPORTANT: Manage expectations. Really important to not set 'too high' expectations - he is in a desperate situation and will grab onto anything."

He's not getting anything from the public purse, is he?

Of course he is! He may no longer be a wsorking royal but he still gets an income (which I understand is quite large) from him being the Duke of York. There are too many freeloaders in the royal family, living in their large house with all the expenses paid, while the rest of us can't afford to put our heating up!!

I'm not sure he does get an income merely by being the Duke of York.

He had an allowance as a working royal which was stopped when he had to stand down. Probably the late Queen bankrolled him for the couple of years until she passed away. Then the King, via the Duchy of Lancaster which he inherited from his Mother, paid him an allowance (1 million, I believe), but this has now been withdrawn.

He received a small navy pension (around £20k p.a). However, any other income is a bit of mystery. He received vastly inflated sums from the sale of Sunninghill Park and the chalet in Verbiers, but of course he now has to pay for his own security as Charles has stopped that as well.

His sources of income are probably as dodgy as his choice of friends.

Is this fresh to the national papers? IMO The King must have been aware for a while?
Andrew is an idiot, however the late Queen had a friendship the Anthony Blunt, another Spy.

I expect Anthony Blunt was charming and they would only have talked about art.

I cannot imagine HM Queen Elizabeth ever giving state secrets away!
