I am a Teleholic as well. It’s on all the time. I live alone too. I don’t knit, crochet or have any hobby. If it’s not Sky, it’s Netflix. or YouTube.

Sky keep sending me emails‘begging for me to come back to them’ have NOW Tv and Prime which is cheaper but do miss Netflix

I like my radio, which I have on at work whenever possible. I do like the TV on in the evenings as it breaks up the silence now I'm widowed. There's not much I actually watch though. I can understand anyone living alone, especially someone less mobile like the OP, having the TV on all day.

It varies for me. I like to watch in bed until I'm tired enough to go to sleep, but otherwise it depends on what I'm doing. If I'm working, or pottering in the house I tend to listen to music, but if I've finished work, done the chores and am sitting down to knit or whatever, I will put the TV on and watch a series of some kind (I can't sit still and 'just' knit - I need to have both brain and muscles working - probable ADD).

In the evenings, I relax with a soap first, and News-type programmes such as Question Time, or Peston. I prefer to binge drama, so if they are released an episode at a time I often record them and watch it all. I do scan the listings, though, and if there is something worth watching I will either see it live, record it or make mental note to catch it on iPlayer or whatever. Tonight I will watch the Alan Bennett programme, and maybe record The History Boys to watch for the hundredth time .

I'm not addicted in the sense of having it on all the time, but I would miss it if it broke. I think having so much choice of what to watch means there is always something, unlike when there were two or three channels and as often as not there was nothing you wanted to see. I never used to put it on and then look to see what to watch (ie I would only put it on if I knew I wanted to see something) but I do nowadays.

I never was but it’s great for the winter months. I’ve enjoyed a lot on iPlayer especially.

I agree, and if I’m not working an evening or night shift then I really enjoy my tv evening with all the recorded programmes to watch or Netflix.

When I’m sitting and knitting in the afternoon (which is often!) and can’t cope with anything I need to concentrate on, or I’m going to go wrong and curse a lot, my go-to watch (unless there a Repair Shop) is Police Interceptors. 😂

I enjoy watching TV too, natural history, crime dramas and unashamedly some soaps. Mainly Emmerdale, Corrie, Enders.

We watch tv every evening but never put it on until the evening news at about 6 pm.

That sounds just like us also.

We watch the main news and local news together, then DH stays watching in the sitting room, I depart to my little snug with little tv also, and we both watch whatever we each want to, as we have different tastes.

Works for us.

We watch TV for an hour in the afternoons. Over the last year we’ve watched all episodes of Heartbeat, All Creatures and currently Poldark.
Then it doesn’t go on again until about 8pm when we watch something which is new to us such as Shetland.
At the weekend my DH watches a football match late afternoon while I play word games on my iPad.

I used to watch a lot of tv but the past few years I have completely lost interest. I used to watch all the soaps and had to watch tv every evening. Now I will choose a documentary or real life programme maybe once a week but I get bored easily with tv now. Hubby is the opposite he will watch tv morning noon and night. I like to read but need quiet time to do this so no tv for me.

Not that much worth watching these days but when and if I do find something I tend to binge watch. I always do other things at the same time, knitting, embroidery, sometimes even reading if it is easy to watch. I can’t just sit there and do nothing, too much of a fidget.

I live alone and rarely go out in the evenings and turn the TV on at around 6pm. If I’m watching a good series I can easily binge 3 episodes or so and can’t help feeling a bit guilty. But I don’t watch trash and am currently watching Dopesick on iPlayer which is about the Sackler family and the criminal promotion of OxyContin as a non-addictive drug.
During the day I rarely switch on and get out or read (and spend far too much time on my phone!) But I can totally understand those who are less mobile and find it’s a distraction.

You're only any kind of 'holic if it's harming you or anyone else. If it's not, then just enjoy it.

I live alone, but find tv on during the day very depressing, as if my life has come to an end. Exceptions being royal weddings, funerals etc. I hate going to someone’s house and it is left on as if it’s something we cannot do without.
It means I really enjoy it in the evening and look forward to it.

I have never been a tv watcher, at any age. If I was on my own I would not bother to own one. I would much rather read a book.

Yes totally addicted! Am alone. Don’t like shopping. Don’t like going out out! TV is my company! I hope the programme makers realise just how many people they keep company

I used to be a ferocious reader and when engrossed with a book couldn’t put it down if it was really good -sometimes read a few a week- now I can’t seem to concentrate ! I seem to be talking back at the Tv - anyone else do this? One of the perks living alone no-one tells me to change the channel and no-one answers me back😀

No, I watch very little these days. There are too many repeats and the newer dramas just don't interest me. Thank God for books.

Ditto… I work to the TV morning to night…I listen to the news, watch ( well often a mix of watch and listen ) films, series, documentaries, etc, and love it. I’m definitely addicted… but very happy about it. I live alone, am 78, and have health issues, but also run a small business ( slowly) from home. The TV is wonderful, so much variety, including radio on the TV, YouTube, etc… We didn’t have a TV until I was 9 butI fell in love with the ‘box’ then! I do switch off if working on something more complicated than rote work, or when I have visitors, but I wouldn’t be without it!

PS: I’m also an avid reader, but can only seem to read in bed! I only watch TV in bed if there is something newsworthy, or am Ill…and usually if Ill I don’t want to do either!

Quite the reverse, I could live very happily without a television. I am however addicted to the internet....

If I’m at home alone it’s usually music I rely on rather than the TV, but myDMiL used to get annoyed if we visited during her tv time, the biggest problem seemed to be as she got older and less mobile her tv time increased, that any visit was an inconvenience.

I put it on for Loose Women and the news. Then again for Deal or no Deal. I then have it on all evening. I love TV.
