Think I maybe one that belongs in this group … I love my TV believe it’s a consequence of living alone and not being fully mobile so do spend a significant amount of time indoors.
Am not a knitter or crocheting person although my mother was..am also not a baker or pastry person…but mother was an exceptional in kitchen dishes. Not a homemaker also .. how did these genes pass/not pass on? Always loved using manual typewriter at school and college!
Maybe I’m a press the button person - TV on instead of radio now so not always sitting and viewing but TV on EVERY DAY so must be addicted? Anyone else 🙅🏻‍♀️

The only programme I have watched this year is about the post Masters and Strictly, then because my friend visits to watch with me, we watch whichever programme like the Chair and Antique Roadshow which follows the hour after whilst we have a coffee and a chat. I never have the TV on otherwise. I have a smart TV I bought from my late husband who was housebound in 2012, which can no longer do catch up as it is no longer supported, so was advised to buy a Ruko stick, I thought viewing would then be free but of course it is not. Not that it matters, I would not watch anyway. If I am in I work on my Mac until bed time then have a look on FB and play Candy Crush until I switch off. around midnight I read Gransnet on the Mac, when I have my meal breaks. My friends obviously think I am odd.

win what’s a RUKO stick.? Is it the same as a Fire stick?. I have free ROKU channel on my smart Tv but it’s not that interesting for me and prefer Prime courtesy of my daughter having an Amazon PRIME subscription…
Channels 4 and 5 have had exceptionally good dramas in the past year IMO. Of course there’s iPLAYER which I view a lot and do like the NORDIC/FINNISH/GERMAN crime series.
Ah mustn’t forget 24hrs in POLICE CUSTODY- find this series utterly riveting although it does deal with the worst of society and its many victims…🥲
And mustn’t forget VERA and a dose of JUDGE JUDY - love the way she deals with the small claims court cases and calls out people as idiots and she can’t abide people who are too slick and simply tells them that she doesn’t believe them 🤥

Here is your answer to that question as I honestly do not know much about it.
When you compare the tech specifications of a Fire TV Stick 4K against the Roku Streaming Stick 4K, you'll find that both devices are very similar, even down to the price. One thing is certain, however: Amazon offers bigger discounts more often on its Fire Stick than Roku does. Thank you for all the other suggestions too, I will bear them in mind if the time comes when I feel like watching TV. It honestly does not interest me at the moment.

For several months I had TV problems, took Sky quite a while to sort out but now it's OK again I realise how much I rely on it for evening entertainment. I am very appreciative of the TV even if I turn it down while reading or doing something else it's still company as I now live alone. To be fair there aren't that many progs I actually look forward to watching but it's company for me and I'd hate to be without it now especially on dark winter nights.

We never had TV when I was a child, and I left home aged 19 to go abroad. I am so so grateful for this. Never ever watch TV during the day- and only what I want to watch in the evenings. If nothing interesting on, just switch off.

It actually doesn't make any differencce. My parents had a tv. i didn't watch it when I was at home as a teenager, preferring to go to my bedroom and read a book, and nothing has changed in the 70 years since.

In my case there is no decision to switch off, just now and again a decision to switch on.

I'm not a teleholic but confess I do have TV on all the time for background noise. It's on from when I get up to when I go to bed. I just hate silent houses even when OH is often home. Don't really watch many programs though apart from the Chase and the news/weather

On my own, the radio is on, but I find the visual 'clutter' from an unwatched tv programme. distracting and discombobulating.

Bea65 Tue 17-Dec-24 11:20:43

M0nica never heard the phrase visual clutter .. my Tv is good company am sure this is the case for many of us who live alone🎄

Bea65 If you had ADHD, you would know all about it. I have ADHD, It was recognised over 20 years ago.

To those who asked what my definition of “trash” is - reality TV, soaps, most game shows.

I do know people with ADHD and they do watch Tv ..am also neurodivergent myself so ?

I watch tv, but only when it is something I want to see. I have a lot of problems when too much is happening visually on the edge of my vision.

I have an ad blocker on my computer because when I was trying to read things when there were ads both sides, especially if any were moving, I simply could not concentrate to read the text because the colour and activity each side confused my mind.

When in the USA, where town streets are cluttered with signs and road signs are small, After driving round all day, having to absorb all signs to look for the ones I needed to see I had a full blown panic attack.

Bea65 Wed 18-Dec-24 15:28:47

M0nica understand better now - also have had severe panic attacks and they are horrendous - takes a couple of days for me to deal with the fallout from them with nausea and headaches 🤕

I'm definitely a tv holic. I find it de stresses me I switch off and immerse myself. It keeps me from my phone which is good. The first thing I do once up and pets fed is watch This morning it's like a good magazine but I do switch off once loose women start there very moany can't stand it. It a shame the adverts are so depressing now days. My husband still works I'm retired so it stops me feeling lonely too
