Imagine my surprise some time ago when she wandered into the lounge. Just stood there looking at me.

Hi there people.. how to deal with loneliness ?

I am just up this morning, early rise for me 6.30 ish for church.. LostSoulSilly, I fight on... I look at buddha stuff on youtube and anything that takes my eye, give it a try... meditation, mindfulness, even watching a drama on tv,, I record most stuff I think I would like to watch,, and a character said that she enjoys her own company! AAAh! now I am working on that...

I've done some gardening, tidying pots and planting summer bulbs and corms. Spring is almost here, which is a happy thought in spite of the horrible news at the moment in the world.

Yes Henetha it seemed to just peter out. Maybe it did its job and the lonely people stopped feeling so bad knowing there were others like them.
Polnan I enjoy my own company! I like other people's company too for a short while and then I'm happy to withdraw again. I think it's the advancing years. In years,gone by I would have felt I was missing out just sitting looking at the wonderful view from my window, or by the pond watching the fish!

oh Taichinan, please teach me how to be comfortable in my own company.. I am fortunate to have two close friends, and the days we don`t meet I admit I struggle,, very slowly I think I am making slight headway.. although a Christian, (I try) I read stoicism and understand it, but have to get into the practice of it... I have always been a quick person, built in motor is fast, and always told it is lazy not to be doing... to just sit and ,,phew! I am perservering though, this thread is good for me.. thank you everyone.

I think by nature I am lazy!! That makes it easier to sit still 😉. Also I have done tai chi for more than 20 years and that definitely, over time, develops contentment. And on top of that I tell myself that I enjoy my own company and now I find that I actually do! It may also be in my genes of course - I'm very like my mother. But that's no help to you, is it 😂

Lovely to hear about people’s foxes! And thank you Polnan for answering and describing Miss T. A fat cat - which is funny! She sounds a great companion. I drove to a wonderful shingle beach about 12 miles away for a walk today and on the way a beautiful hare sprinted across the road in front of me from one field to another. Such long ears and grace.

So glad it is still going and we can all chat. Well the weather has been so much brighter of late and there are lots of daffodils out where we live. It makes me excited to know that the dark gloomy days are fading and we can get into the garden or park. I love this time of year as everything is coming to life and it makes me feel happy. Do others get excited when seeing plants begin to show?

Yes, I do, Truffle. It's a thrill every spring to see all the signs of new life. Spring flowers everywhere, and I saw catkins last week. I find it quite emotional actually.
I planted lots of new daffodils last autumn and they are all growing well and some are open. I'm planting summer bulbs and corms now and will again have the pleasure of watching them emerge from the soil and growing into lovely flowers (unless the slugs get them!)

ah henetha slugs,, I have a small back garden, and I battle slugs!!! yes constant battle...

I'm afraid I give them constant blue pills... (No, not viagra!)

aren`t they dangerous to birds and well etc... pets?

Yes, I do have slight guilt feelings but the slugs die overnight and I shovel them up in the morning. I have a paved courtyard garden with big pots. Just happens occasionally. Sorry everyone - TMI??!

Oh Truffle I get ridiculously excited at signs of Spring. I live on the east coast of Scotland, not far from the Aberdeenshire border, so Spring is a little later here than it is down south. But driving into Dundee the other day I was thrilled to see swathes of yellow and purple crocuses by the roadside, beneath the trees, and then hoards of daffodils just coming into bloom! I still have snowdrops in bloom in my garden and the crocuses are out too, but the daffodils are very slow this year. My friends, the goldfish, are also pottering around sluggishly in their pond. Life is good.

Taichinan I saw some crocus in someone’s garden as I walked by today they really stood out.Small they may be but so pretty. My daffodils are out now and I am desperate to start planting hanging baskets. I know it is much too early but as I tell my grandchildren you need to learn patience.It does feel like the world is coming to life and puts me on top of the world. I have a small butler sink as a pond in my garden no goldfish but a newt appears every year. I had to cover it with a mesh cover last year as the birds were looking for dinner. We will see if it comes back this year.

Signs of spring. I remember when my granddaughter was about 5, her teacher had told them to look out for signs of spring. We were catching a bus together and found plenty to comment on during our journey. Happy memories.
Two years ago my husband was recovering from a heart condition. We went out for short drives most days round the villages. The verges had daffodils, gardens had bulbs and blossom, so pretty. Sadly he did not live to see summer. I can’t yet bear to drive round those villages.

Cabbie21 my heart breaks to read your words. I remember my own heartbreak so well. There will be others here who do the same and however many years ago it was there is still loss. Hold on.

Hello everyone. I’m new on this chat. Hope you don’t mind me joining you all. I’m lonely even in a crowded room, I think I just have to live with it. It’s got worse as I’ve got older. I do have friends and I work so I keep myself busy. Lately though I have been withdrawing as I’ve had some problems at home, so that lonely feeling has really kicked in.

The recent sunshine really does lift me and the spring flowers are joyful. I’m glad to see the back of winter, it’s been so miserable!

Welcome Ltp1404 ! PPs are posting about about anything we are doing and are always trying to cheer each other on and up. It’s a happy sharing which I certainly value. I think all of us feel lonely or alone some of the time and there are many different ways of experiencing this. Sometimes it’s fine and sometimes not. Hope you are ok.
