Morning all from a still dark West Oxfordshire on this Christmas Eve.

Our daughter is here and younger son arrives this afternoon. He will make fish pie for us all.

As soon as I get up I must take various food stuffs out of the freezer ready for today and tomorrow.

OH wants to visit his bees today. He is worried that one of the hives might not have enough food so he’ll take some fondant for then.

Have a good day.

Good morning all from the Black country.
My you all sound very busy, we are at DiLs mums for Christmas dinner so no rushing about here and we no longer have Christmas eve parties so no extra bits to prepare.
GM hope all goes well with pre cataract appointment, safe travels those on the move.
Have a lovely Christmas everyone 🎄🎅

Good morning from Shropshire.Sun forecast today.

We are off in a few minutes to spend the morning with mum although we have to call at her house first so a lot of driving. The home advised we come today as she usually plays us up when we visit so they will have time to settle her after and we will have time to de stress.

Home to make stuffing and finish off the trifle then hopefully a relaxing evening.

Thinking of all for whom this time of year isn’t great💐

Hope Imogen is feeling better Jax.

Thoughts with all unwell and hope Marydoll is ok🙏🏻

Have the best day you can everyone🦩🎅🏼🎄

Happy Christmas Eve to all, my favourite day too🎄⛄. Going for a stroll with DH, will have coffee and cake, bit of peace, before the lovely chaos commences. Wishing you lovely people a very happy and healthy Christmas. My thoughts and prayers are with those struggling, feeling poorly and upset. God bless you all.🎄💐☃️❤️x

Grammaretto Tue 24-Dec-24 08:07:29

Happy Christmas Eve morning all from the Scottish Borders where it's not cold and even beginning to get light.
I've been up to make a cuppa but now back in bed.

Still a bit more to do but my scaled down Christmas will be fine. DS1 has said they'll come after lunch now so it will just be DD and her family tomorrow.
I managed to cancel the turkey and have bought a chicken for the meat eaters. Pigs in blankets, a nut roast for me and pavlova as well as a booze free pudding. This is so the littlies can eat it.

I had a call from the hospital yesterday which sent me into a tizz.
My hip replacement is to be on December 31st! Much earlier than expected so all my plans have had to change.

Sorry about your poor DD Kitty
Sherry sounds like a good medicine Ash
How wonderful your London trip sounds brook

I hope everyone has a good day.

Georgesgran Tue 24-Dec-24 08:12:25

Good morning from a mild, overcast Durham. Another night of vivid, unwelcome dreams.
Coffee with a friend this morning, but we’ll try to find somewhere less busy than our normal haunt.
Then it’s home to wrap SinL’s gifts and tackle the vegetables for tomorrow.
Safe travels gM.

Best wishes to all. X

Kalu Tue 24-Dec-24 08:13:47

Good morning all. Wet and windy still in Glasgow but a welcome double figures milder day.

No need to go out today, gifts wrapped and I am happily ignoring the to do list, the day is my own to please myself.
I did a Waitrose shop at my usual late afternoon time, parking no problem but by the time I was leaving, it was bedlam on the roads with cars circling looking for a parking space and a long line of traffic queuing to join the hunt for a parking space too.
DD1 is popping in this morning to borrow a white linen table cloth which I may never see again!

Safe travels to all on the move. Best wishes to all with continued difficult times.

Liberty Tue 24-Dec-24 08:18:06

Good morning from a dry and still Suffolk where the temp is supposed to be at least double from what it was yesterday!

A quiet day here when we’ll bring the little Christmas tree in from the garden and decorate it whilst listening to ‘Carols from Kings’. Well no doubt reminisce about Christmases past when our children, now all in their 40s did the decorating.

I hope everyone has the best Christmas possible especially those not in the best of health or carrying troubles. Praying that this troubled world will find some peace in 2025 and being grateful for the love of family and friends.

Georgesgran Tue 24-Dec-24 08:18:34

My parents always had a late morning sherry in a bid to stimulate Mum’s appetite. The District Nurse (in the 80’s) partook with them!

Nightmare for your DD kitty - perfect timing - not!

Oopsadaisy1 Tue 24-Dec-24 08:21:14

Good morning from a mild and drizzly Oxfordshire.
I have a houseful at the moment, but everything is prepped for our ‘Christmas’ lunch today, as they all have to go back to Cornwall tomorrow, we will just open presents on Christmas Day and have a light lunch, probably left overs and then peace will descend.
GS has arrived with the flu, we were warned, so poor thing has been propped on the sofa dozing, although it hasn’t affected his appetite!
MissOops will arrive later, the dog is a bit poorly so not quite sure what will happen there, but we will soon find out I guess.

Have a good day everyone, I’m aware that Christmas isn’t a happy time for everyone and if anyone is unwell then it’s not easy either. But virtual hugs for those Grans.🎄

RosiesMaw2 Tue 24-Dec-24 08:21:21

Good morning from a damp looking N Bucks.
I could so easily stay in bed with Rosie curled up beside me, but no, shower, hair wash, Rosie to kennels, pack my bag for the rest of the week and load the car with sausage rolls, red cabbage, Christmas cake, cheeses, crackers, 8 side plates , 8 champagne glasses D has found they only have 9) and get myself on the road to be in Birmingham by three as we are off to the Christingle service at 4.
I feel tired already!
Wishing you all peace and joy this Christmas, comfort for the weary and those in pain and I shall raise a glass to you all tomorrow.

loopyloo Tue 24-Dec-24 08:30:51

Good morning everyone.
The gammon is in the slow cooker, the veggy zaatar pastry is in the fridge, the dishwasher is loaded and just a few presents to wrap.
The young ones aren't up yet....
Have a good day everyone.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 24-Dec-24 08:32:18

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where although it’s wet out, it’s not raining now and it seems mild enough out.

We’ve been designated to pick up the Christmas food order as Himself only has to go down in the lift for it. We are both on carrot/swede/sprout prep for eleven people this afternoon! At teatime we’ve been invited over for fizz (me) and AF beer (Himself) at Teacher Mummy’s while we drop off the turkey order and the prepped veg. That’ll be a nice hour or so as L’il Miss will be SO excited. The magic of Christmas eh?

Wishing you all a very Happy Christmas - and especially you Mick - thank you for setting us up every morning. This has become a much loved thread over the years.

Grandmafrench Tue 24-Dec-24 08:32:52

Good Christmas Eve Morning from a very wild South of France. Yes, it's blue and sunny but for all normal activities like standing upright, walking in a straight line, manhandling shopping, controlling car doors (or small children and animals), Bonne Chance !

My DH described the scene as supermarket trolleys were coaxed sideways in the car park - moving like unwilling supertankers against the gales. Due to a new knee, he's not allowed to join in such extreme sports, so gets to sit in the car and feel sorry for others.

The garden shrubs, in large heavy pots have been doing a dance across the terrace for days and each time I go outside I'm tempted to shout 'surf's up' at the large waves on our pool.

The Met Office here informed us that a serious depression (their words) which started in Scotland, has swept South causing 'violent' winds and 'turbulent air streams', so we must fasten everything down (and try to be a bit more Ho, Ho, Ho, and less Bah Humbug about things!) Or, maybe that's just me?

Anyway, what they don't suspect is my theory about the turbulence. I'd guess it's been caused by the Scottish Grans (led by the unsinkable Batty) and relays of other Grans have taken up the challenge. Just stop it. Please. Just sit still and give us a break down here. Not only is all your Yuletide activity causing a serious draught, but that's all got mixed up with the Mistral and Tramontaine winds, and going outside now is not only deafening.....it's exhausting. This week anything outside has become an Olympic sport!

Today, though, we have a lovely free day, to meet up, eat up, drink up and catch up, before we all go home to celebrate with the Christmas Eve meal. It's not likely that I shall partake of a sherry, but since Noilly Prat is made here that's what I'll have. Cheers, Ash and many others!

My photo of a peaceful walk through the False Rocket flowers at sunset - taken some days ago when such a stroll was possible.
The flowers are like Catnip to our dog, who is determined to smell each and every one before winter ends.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who keeps in touch with me and for all those who contribute to such an entertaining Morning thread. It's now a proper Club with people who care. Lovely. Can I also send wishes for strength and hope for all those of you ill or struggling in life, love to anyone sad or alone, and good wishes that a New Year will see some problems resolved and dreams come true.

And Madeleine, so happy to hear that you're back home - there's no place like it. You deserve a medal not just a new bathroom.

Enjoy this Christmas everyone and take good care of yourselves.
With love and hugs from French France - and me.

Morning from a damp, mild S Hants. Farm shop yesterday at 7am was quiet, gammon cooked and glazed then we had quiz. Fourteen teams in all, sixty odd people, a lovely good natured evening and both my children were there, Imogen is slowly improving thank you Susan it’s dulled her appetite though.
Veg prep later, Christmas draw in the local at 5, then we’re in.
Have a lovely day all and safe travels

Good morning all and it’s a bright and calm Christmas Eve.

Glad you enjoyed the Panto GG. Dd and DGD went yesterday and loved it. DS1 and family went on Sunday and were disappointed with it. They go every year and always enjoy so dont know why this year was different.

Not much to do today, so chilling out and reading my book and watching tv.

Take care and enjoy the day 🌟

GrannySomerset Tue 24-Dec-24 09:00:55

How good to hear from Grandmafrench, though horrified to read of such unhelpful weather. Hope the dancing flower pots come to no harm.

An admirably busy thread for most; hope all the preparations and travel go to plan and that Christmas is not too painfully sad for those who are missing loved ones are not alone.

madeleine45 Tue 24-Dec-24 09:01:55

Good morning Mick and all gransnetter morning friends. Hope all your plans have been going well and you enjoyed a bap with your coffee. It is now quite light outside, very still and looks very cold. Havent been outside yet. It is a good job that I am spending christmas alone and not expecting any guests right now! Had to do quite a lot of shopping yesterday to restock the flat and think about boring things like shoe polish and disinfectant as well as the more christmassy things. Staggered in about 2pm and dumped shopping in the kitchen and thankfully made myself a much needed cup of coffee. Glad to sit in a comfortable chair as my back was very painful and just sat in the peace and quiet and drank a little coffee, thinking what else I needed to do before going to my doctors appointment for 3.20. Decided that I would just finish my coffee and put away shopping and make sure I was on time , so go early as the roads were busy. The next thing I knew I was sat in darkeness with a cold cup of coffee beside me and it was 7.45pm!! I was mortified to have not gone to the surgery or rung them to say I wasnt going!! I have never done that before and as a patient transport driver, am very aware of people who cannot get an appointment when they need it and others who just dont turn up. Well couldnt do anything about it last night, but will be calling in to apologise and explain. Tried to ring but of course couldnt get through!! When I went to bed properly , of course i couldnt sleep for ages. Woke again about 4am and then drifted off after 5am , with my mind full of things like checking the car for fuel, and who I should ring today to say I am home at last. No phone calls as all my friends think I am still at the hotel! So to cap it all I woke just before 7 with awful cramp in my right leg!!!! So I am now cautiously walking about and reading your messages .Still in my dressing gown, but have list ready to go out and just checking about for any forgotten bits and pieces. When I get back, whatever is forgotten can stay forgotten.
I have a Tesco clubcard and so was able to get a small leg of lamb at half price, and so that will be my christmas dinner, with roast potatoes, roast parsnip, and roast onion, peas (of course) cauliflower and cabbage and mint sauce. I love lamb, but it has been so expensive I cant remember the last time I bought a piece to roast. So I shall enjoy every mouthful, and there will be cold lamb and pickle for a sandwich and enough to heat some in gravy for another meal. I am still trying to get in touch with my son and hope that they will come over , not on christmas day, but soon, or we may meet up half way, so my cold lamb will give me a sandwich for the journey. Sod's Law my phone is playing up. It is charged up but keeps going dark and cutting out. My tv has decided to annoy me as it now without any warning , suddenly the picture breaks up or the sound goes wrong , either together or one at a time. No chance of anyone looking at it at the moment and it is quite old so think I may be looking in the sales for a new one. So long as my radio 3 and 4 keep going is the most important thing. I have never had an Alexa but think it sounds the thing that would be good to have. So you savvy GNs, who know all about them, please tell me how you find them, if one kind is better than another, do they need separate speakers etc. I am an Alexa beginner so any advice you can give would be welcome.
Well, I hope to go to midnight service if I can manage it , and when I come home I always have a small glass of single malt to celebrate the day, and think of all family , my lovely husband particularly, and also raise my glass to all friends old and new and hope that they all have a Happy Christmas and a Peaceful and Healthy New Year. Of course you are all included in this , and I thank you for for all your interesting posts in the past and look forward to many more in the New Year. Keep safe and enjoy your day with those you love.

Good (Christmas Eve) morning greetings all.
My, you all seem so busy- I’m still bed, having had tea and a bacon butty brought to me by OH.
I’ve got presents to wrap, and at 2.30 I am off to our local church for the Crib service, with my neighbour.
Sherry here too and mince pies afterwards with said neighbour and our respective OH’s- a lovely way to start the evening proceedings.
Best wishes to all for a Happy and peaceful Christmas. xx

Pittcity Tue 24-Dec-24 09:54:40

Just thought I'd pop in and wish you all a Merry Christmas.

Looking forward to spending time with our family over the next few days.

Love to all 🦩 x

Good morning all. Tail-end Charlie here from a dank Dunblane. I for some reason have not been able to pluck up any enthusiasm for Christmas this year since I had that virus in November. I have gone through all the motions though decorations, tree, cards, presents and Christmas food but it is as if I am on remote pilot. Still have family presents to wrap today thank goodness we are going to Dd for Christmas dinner tomorrow and it will be lovely to see all the family including Ds , DdiL and grandchildren together. I have absolutely nothing to complain about but all I want for Christmas is my energy back. Sorry to moan on here but it is hard work pretending. Maybe some Christmas music when wrapping will help.
I hope everyone has a lovely Christmas and hope those who struggle at this time of year find something to brighten the day. Safe travels to anyone on the move.g

Aw LLFL a 🎄 present for the bees! 🐝

Taichinan Tue 24-Dec-24 10:09:23

Good morning and a happy Christmas Eve from Notts where we arrived safely yesterday afternoon with our sleigh.
It was an uneventful journey on really quiet roads as the whole population of England seemed to be heading for The Lakes or Scotland!
Still learning flowers and hugs. A hole in your soul that is always there 😢
Glad you're feeling better GrandmaC.
A very quiet day here. DD and N are working (from home) and the Three Teens and one Twenty are all still sleeping. The second Twenty is en route from Scotland. I don't think tomorrow will be quite as quiet somehow!
Yesterday I waved to Baubles (Lanarkshire), Ekwanimity (Carlisle) and Harrigran (Harrogate) as I passed, so today I'll shout out to everyone - have a very Happy Christmas! 🎄🎁🧑‍🎄🎶

Litterpicker Tue 24-Dec-24 10:12:40

Good morning from a dreich looking West Sussex. I am behind as usual but as we are going to DD1 tomorrow I only have presents to pick up from Argos and M&S. Then wrap them and post neighbours’ cards through letterboxes.

I feel for your tiredness, Scapal. I hope Christmas Day with the family will lift your spirits. You needn’t feel ashamed of sleeping and relaxing when the festivities are over - listen to your body 🙂

Good to see Grandmafrench and Pittcity pop in.
Happy Christmas to all with special thoughts for those in pain, physical or emotional. 🎄
