We have done a lot of celebrating on New Year's Eve over the years but now we prefer to have a quiet evening in. We will enjoy a lovely meal and some nice wine and be in bed before Midnight. How about you do you still like to celebrate or is that now a thing of the past?

Family only ever celebrated a glass at 12 then bed so I ve never had much of a celebrating head on me either
I would if I knew anyone that did, but I don’t, so I won’t

Haha. I too, would try to party if the opportunity arose but I am definitely not a party animal so best to stay in.

We are celebrating New Year in Madeira my DH and I. The fireworks are spectacular and some of the best in the world.

Last NYE we were on our own at home and enjoying a lovely dinner and Champagne and wine. We watched Rick Astley bring in the new year on tv and in our drunken haze booked to go and see him in concert in the summer which we did enjoy. 🎉🥂

Lucky you, enjoy the spectacular. We love Madeira, but hadn’t thought about going for New Year. Good idea!

That sounds marvellous! smile
I'd enjoy those fireworks.

We always celebrate New Year, must be our Scottish heritage.
Many good memories, mostly with long standing good friends. We’re all going to a local restaurant this year for a gourmet tasting menu. After the chimes it will be back home to see the last bit of Jools and Hootenanny.

My last celebration was Hogmanay in Scotland. smile
That was a good few years ago, and I think I'm still recovering.

We will be like you Judy54!
Conga lines in our cul-de-sac with friends and neighbours with fireworks are long behind us. 😁

I don't think you'll get in to the at home non-party, FriedGreenTomatoes2
Your tickets are out of date.

Have a drink anyway! 🥂🍾

I have never been a fan of New Years Eve. Like others I enjoy a nice meal and a drink at midnight but other than that can’t be bothered. Hope next year will be a better one than this year.

We stay up and have a nice meal, but no party 🎄

It will be a normal night for me.

Bed at 10, might hear fireworks going off at midnight.

NYE was never made anything of when growing up, and so it has carried on,

This is me as well.

Best wishes to you and your DW, grumppa.

We go to a matinee musical at our local theatre and then have a nice meal. This year we are having a takeaway from the lovely Indian restaurant at the top of our road.

We’ve always stay in and enjoy our picky party food and a few glasses of wine. Usually in bed before the new year. It’s our way don’t know any different. We’re more Christmas fanatics.

Same here!

I just found out we've won a quick mini cruise in a couple of weeks, so I'll save the partying 'til then.

Hogmanay was a bigger celebration for some adult Scots than Christmas. Mum and dad always had a party to welcome in the new year and we were allowed to stay up. When I was married, we would first foot neighbours and stay up for hours.
Now, I'll be in bed and asleep probably. I have no-one to welcome the new year in with. That suits me. I'm having family round for dinner on New Year's Day

Greyduster Sat 28-Dec-24 16:38:18

For years we spent New Years Eve dining with a couple of special friends, at our alternate houses, but with the death of one half of the couple, it became too sad for any of us to bring in the New Year and we stopped doing anything special then. I am lucky if I can stay up that late these days, even if I wanted to!

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 28-Dec-24 16:29:37

We always used to go out partying! No more.

I’ll cook a nice meal and there’ll be fizz. I’ll stay up until midnight but OH will be in bed. The cats will be allowed to sleep on my bed as a treat. They’re terrified of fireworks.

On New Year’s Day we always go out for lunch and it’s already booked.

Astitchintime Sat 28-Dec-24 16:23:11

Bed by 22.00 and hopefully asleep before the bloody fireworks start! And if that makes me a miserable old fart then I don't give a hoot!

nexus63 Sat 28-Dec-24 16:19:01

being scottish i was brought up celebrating the new year, when i was little it was great to stay up to the bells, i still do what my gran did and that was to open the window to let the old year out and open the door to let the new year in.

Our days of fancy dress in the local hostelry are long gone, we have the grandchildren here anyway, so a pizza dinner, game of UNO flip and a film before Jools pipes 2025 in. Then we’ll stand out the front to watch fireworks and hear foghorns from the docks.
My best wishes for you both grumppa

woodenspoon Sat 28-Dec-24 16:11:22

Our partying days are behind us I’m afraid. I’ve danced the night away for many new years eves but now, no longer. A quiet night in, a nice meal from M&S, a toast to the new year and watch tv and the fireworks. Next day, take the decorations down and that’s it until next year! I’m hoping for health for us next year as we’ve had a bit of a year of it.

Grammaretto Sat 28-Dec-24 16:07:49

We always used to go around the neighbours to first foot them so long as a light was on!
For years, our ceilidh dance teacher, set up a ghetto blaster in the square in their cul de sac and call dances for an hour after midnight.
One year, snow underfoot, we had 8 eightsome reels so 64 joining in. Brilliant.
Then one year a neighbour complained! It put her off and nobody else is bothered to organise anything.

Edinburgh's Hogmanay - around the Tron Church bells - was spoiled when it became a ticketed event.
I suppose it was elf n safety and probably wise as my teenagers would come home with terrifying stories.

I'll be in hospital after my hip replacement this time. I'll let you know what that's like.😳

I celebrate by going to bed early and trying to get to sleep before the noise starts. Have never seen the point of New Year celebrations.
