Good morning all from a wild Glasgow, where it is 10°C.

I was so sorry to read your sad news, Susan. 💐

I hope all goes well today, Gramnaretto.

Thank you all for your good wishes. Another day in bed for me, I cannot believe how ill, I have been, probably because my immune system is compromised. In all my years teaching, I managed to avoid this horrible bug.

For those of you, who have celebrations planned, enjoy.

Good morning folks 🙋‍♀️

I haven’t been on line since Boxing Day when whilst we had a houseful, seven of which were staying, The Imp started vomiting just before midnight, and by Saturday the dreaded noro virus was the gift that continued to give and spread.

I will try and catch up with all your news over the coming days.

Wishing you all a very happy and healthy 2025 😘🎉

Susan56 Tue 31-Dec-24 08:24:05

Good morning from Shropshire where it is windy with rain forecast.

Thank you for your kind thoughts yesterday and this morning.

Today we are going to the care home for a meeting with the manager and the chaplain.

We plan a quiet evening🤞🏻I will stay up tonight but DH will no doubt have to wake me at midnight.

I hope your niece’s operation went well ilovepuffins and that all goes well for Grammaretto today.

Hope you are over the worst Marydoll.

Ash I am glad you had a much better journey.I know you will write a beautiful tribute to your friend. You have a wonderful way with words.

Wishing everyone the best day possible.🦩

Just seen your post Marydoll you have my upmost sympathy.

I feel as if I have been run over, it will take time to get my asthma back under control.

It will take you longer I imagine xxx

Ilovepuffins Tue 31-Dec-24 08:24:41

Good morning everyone.
Not much happening weatherwise here in Oxfordshire, just grey and still.
Thank you for all your best wishes for our niece.
Finally heard from the hospital at 10.30pm that the op was done and as much of the tumour removed as possible. She will need chemo and radiotherapy but has a way to go before that starts.
Today we are meeting DD1 and GS and GD for a walk and to see them ride their new bikes which we will enjoy.
Will shop for something nice for dinner too.
Hope all goes well for Grammaretto today and best wishes to all, especially GNs with health issues and worries

Good morning all
Well, 2024 certainly has a sting in its tail. Yesterday evening DS1 told us all that my eldest grandson, father of Li'l Ollie, has been diagnosed with leukaemia. We're all terribly shocked. The leukaemia he has been diagnosed with is Hairy Cell Leukaemia which is apparently "the best leukaemia" to have in terms of progression and survival rate. Here's hoping.
I hope Puffin's niece's op was successful yesterday, and grammaretto's op today too.
Susan flowers. The only good thing to say about a sudden death like that (my late partner died exactly like that) is that the person who died lived their life fully right up to the last moment without having first to endure a lingering illness. Try to take comfort in that thought x
Today is DGD1's 21st Birthday. We're having just a small celebration before they go off to Glasgow to a comedy gig. They were supposed to be going to the Edinburgh Hogmanay, but that's been cancelled due to the weather. DD hasn't told her or her sister about Fraser's diagnosis yet, wanting them to have this celebration as a happy day, as it should be.
Take care everyone, and I hope this awful weather hasn't impacted in you too much x

Susan56 Tue 31-Dec-24 08:27:53

Thank you Taichinan for that comforting thought.

I am so sorry to hear about your grandsons diagnosis.I hope for successful treatment for him and a good recovery🙏🏻💐

brook2704 Tue 31-Dec-24 08:32:32

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s very wet with a mix of snow and rain
Susan56 💐
We need to go out later for a bit of shopping, it’s probably too wet for a walk so won’t be out long. It’ll be a quiet Hogmanay tonight, just me and DH but a nice meal planned with a bottle of Prosecco
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Ilovepuffins Tue 31-Dec-24 08:34:38

Sorry to hear about your GS Taichinan thanks

Grandmabatty Tue 31-Dec-24 08:39:03

Taichinan I'm really sorry to hear about your dgs. I wish him a speedy recovery

GrannyGravy13 Tue 31-Dec-24 08:39:40

There seems to have been much heartache over the last few days.

Sending (((hugs)))

Jaxjacky Tue 31-Dec-24 08:51:04

Morning from a grey S Hants, dry for now.
Grandchildren here tonight and staying over, so we will see the year change with Jools, pizza and nibbles for ease.
Yesterday I garden pottered for an hour, primroses in and veg bed lightly weeded, leeks and garlic look healthy.
Hope your op goes well Grammaretto, good news ilovepuffins, but I’m sorry to hear yours Taichinan.
Safe journeys if travelling and enjoy if you’re partying.

Good morning and it’s bright, sunny but jolly chilly here looking out at the North Sea.
Yesterday was lovely with a biting wind but it’s so nice to see the sun. The beach was busy with walkers and I did see some swimmers 🥶.

I went shopping while Dh got his situpon mower out. By the time I got back, the stupid machine had conked out again. It’s been in and out of the repair shop for months. To be fair, I think the grass was too wet and chunky.
So we set forth AGAIN to push the very weighty thing back into the shed. Inch by inch ! We were nearly there when our neighbour (who doesn’t speak to us, since Lockdown) called out ‘Do you want a hand’? 😳. Yes please, we said.
Boy do I ache today!

It’s all very well having a second home but as we get older, it gets harder to maintain and afford two places. Perhaps it’s time to have a chat! 😢.

Today we’ll potter and just enjoy being here.
The chimney man can’t come until mid January so we can’t light the woodburner, but we’re nice and cosy with the central heating and electric blankets.

I hope all operations went well and the sick are on the road to recovery.

Enjoy your evenings festivities.🎊🎉🥳.

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where it’s dry but looks chilly out. No mater, I’m off to the Trafford Centre later with my friend. We both go by bus. I get mine outside Sainsbury’s. A mooch about, nothing in particular needed but when we have coffee and a scone in the John Lewis cafe I will pass her birthday card and present of a box of L’Occitane soaps across as she’s off to Nottingham on Friday to spend her birthday weekend with family.

Home then early evening we’ve been invited to have champagne and savouries at Teacher Mummy’s. None of us stay up to let the NY in any more so we won’t be late home. Nice.

Thinking of Grammaretto who is joining the Hipster Club today. Hopefully inspired by Redcar’s progress.

Good morning from Cambridgeshire. I have just caught up with all your posts and so sad and sorry to read of all those suffering. A hard ending to 2024 for so many and sending out a big hug. 🥰

Yesterday I did a lovely walk at my local NT property walking the lights trail in the daylight, (having done it in the evening early December).

Today our friends arrive around 5,to celebrate the New Year together, we have done this over many years alternating who hosts the meal and sleepover. Christmas is for our families and New Year is for celebrating with friends of some 50 years. Some friends really are like family.

Wishing a peaceful happy New Year to all of my virtual friends and thank you to Mick and all the regulars that make this a lovely chat to be a part of. Happy 2025 to all 🥂

Good morning all from the Black country.
Late up this morning so haven't read through yet.
Quiet night in tonight our partying days are long gone, those who are celebrating enjoy.
Safe journeys those in the move and a Happy New Year each and every one of you🎉

GrannySomerset Tue 31-Dec-24 09:25:02

Sorry to read that so many of our regulars or their families are not well and I hope things improve soon. Will take down the few decorations as Wonderful Cleaner is her to lift the boxes for me but will leave the cards for another day or two. There is something positive about starting the new year in good order, though as I have some water damage in the kitchen, source not obvious, I am waiting for the builder to be back in business after new year to come and tell me what the (doubtless expensive) problem is. Very depressing.

Anyway, happy new year to all our readers however you celebrate - or don’t.

luluaugust Tue 31-Dec-24 09:31:36

Susan so sorry to catch up with your news. My dad went the same way and eventually we took great comfort from the fact that he would have known nothing.

Taichinan I have sent you a pm

ginny Tue 31-Dec-24 09:44:10

A late good morning from me.

Yesterday we enjoyed ‘The Land of Lights’ with our youngest DGs. It was lovely to hear their chatter and watch their faces.
This evening we will go to long time friends for dinner. Not sure if we will actually see the New Year in. They won’t mind either way.

Wishing speedy recoveries for all our poorly GN friends and thinking of those who have friends and loved ones with illnesses.

We have had some lovely times throughout the year but the last few weeks with family illnesses , a new diagnosis for me and the death of my brother have knocked us back a bit.
Still onward we go with a positive attitude and counting our blessings , of which we have many.

Wishing you all the best for the New Year. X

Ziplok Tue 31-Dec-24 10:13:28

Good morning,

Breezy here, but still dry until this afternoon, and fairly mild.

So sorry to read so much sad news and send my thoughts to you all 💐. Indeed, it’s a year I won’t be sorry to say goodbye to, either.

I hope you soon start to feel better MD.

No plans for this evening other than a nice meal at home and see the New Year in if I’m not too tired. At one time, we’d be off out celebrating, but those days are long gone - much prefer being at home.

It’s a shame so many outdoor events have had to be cancelled this year due to the weather, though. A disappointment for many.

hollysteers Tue 31-Dec-24 10:30:32

Good morning Mick and all from a breezy northwest coast.
Spent yesterday clearing up after the festivities and DS returned home. He put back a mirrored wardrobe door which had fallen off (on my head…)
Thank you letters and an earlier night. I’m now left in peace and can think straight.

Quiet day today, I’m not a fan of New Year celebrations, in fact a new year looming up rather frightens me. I might have a ginger wine and another early night.
Condolences Susan, thinking of you Taichinan and all the best for your ‘op Grammaretto🌺
