Good morning Mick and all from frosty 1°C Sunnyside northwest coast.
Carrying on my quiet life for the moment, started to keep a journal (Mae West “Keep a diary, and one day it will keep you..) Well not in my case Mae, my life is not eventful enough.

Sketched yesterday and settled down in the evening to watch “Christmas in Connecticut” 1945, before realising I had seen it before.

Invited to cousin’s 70th party 20 miles away on Saturday and DS will take me, it will be nice to see extended (large) family.

My plan is a walk in the sand dunes at the bottom of the road today.
Get well soon Grammaretto, welcome K25, thoughts to Kalu Bellas and all🌺

GG you know me so well! 🎶. 😂

Taichinan Thu 02-Jan-25 10:18:10

Good morning all from a sunny but decidedly chilly Angus coast. As I've been reading all the posts I've been watching successive clouds unloading their content of snow over the far hills and also out to sea - long may they do that and not deposit here!
What a sad and worrying start to the New Year on here. Kalu and Bellasnana flowers and I hope you have better news soon. Marydoll glad you are beginning to feel a bit better. And grammaretto - Wow! That was speedy! Take care, but you're much better to be out of hospital and away from all 'hospital acquired infections'. Mizuna, as Ekwanimity said, you do have an interesting family - they obviously take after their mum.
After all the excitement and 'doing' of the past ten days, yesterday I just flopped. I hadn't realised just how tired I was. Old age doesn't come singly, as they say. I so enjoyed DGD1's 21st/Hogmanay in the form of photos, and then photos of the aurora from DGD3 which she took on her way home from work.
Today, after hanging the washing out, I intend to be more active and start reorganising my kitchen. Maybe 😉
Have the best day you can everyone x

Good morning, Michael12 and everyone else!

It's VERY cold and frosty here in Appleby this morning at 9:49 and OMG it's gorgeous!

From the 25th December to 1st January I've had a brilliant time off work!

I laid in bed until late, not getting up until about 11 some mornings! Knocked my mobile off completely and thankfully I had no missed calls/texts from anyone!

On the 30th I got the Appleby train to Skipton and went to Morrisons Cafe where I had a Full English and TWO strawberry milkshakes!

Then made my way to the Town and straight into Oxfam Book Shop, The Works and WH Smith! I found 3 books - Billy Connolly Windswept and Interesting autobiography, Boudica biography by Vanessa Collingridge and The Bigfoot Book - The Encyclopedia of Sasquatch, Yeti and Cryptid Primates.

I'm back to work tonight from 6pm to 6am!

A very late morning all from West Oxfordshire. The sky is blue and the frost is thick.

I have WI admin to do. We have a committee meeting next week so need to make sure all is in order.

OH will visit his bees. They were fine the other day but he is concerned the heavy wind may have caused damage to the trees near his hives. They are in a small copse on some farm land belonging to a friend. On his way home he can collect our monthly prescriptions from the Health Centre.

I am off to Australia next month so need to check if my e-visa is in date.

Have a good day, especially those of you who are under the weather or recovering.

monk08 Thu 02-Jan-25 09:29:14

Good morning all from a frosty Black country.
Hairdressers today and a trip to garden centre deli DH is running out of his favourite sausage, will probably pick up a few other bits while we are there.
Haven't read the posts yet all 47 will catch up later.
Good to see Grammaretto is back home and I hope Marydoll is improving.
Enjoy your day everyone whatever your plans and welcome to any newbies 👋.

Jaxjacky Thu 02-Jan-25 09:08:28

Morning from a chilly S Hants, 2 and only expecting a max of 4 all day.
The grandchildren went home at lunchtime yesterday, they are a pleasure to have.
Welcome K25K
It’s my son’s birthday, 34, we’ll see him later.
That was swift Grammaretto well done, here’s to an equally speedy recovery.
I’m sorry to hear of poorly daughters far away, so frustrating.
Washing to do, curry for dinner.

Oopsadaisy1 Thu 02-Jan-25 09:06:57

Good morning from a bright, sunny and frosty Oxfordshire.

So sorry to hear of the DDs who are ill and so far away, I hope you get to FaceTime them soon to set your minds at rest.

Bed changing today and I’ll gather up the decorations that are spread around the house ready to pack everything away tomorrow.
MrOops will be out so won’t be able to ‘help’ me. I have so many decorations from when I was little and they have only lasted so long because I wrap them so carefully, MrOops ideas of packing are to squish them in as few boxes as possible and hope for the best.
Anyway, I hope all the poorly Gransnetters and their children and Grandchildren start to improve and wish you all a good day.

Marydoll Thu 02-Jan-25 09:05:33

weeanni, lovely to see you posting. Safe journey and hope to see you soon!

weenanni59 Thu 02-Jan-25 09:03:36

Good morning from a cold but bright Ayrshire . I’m travelling to Yorkshire today so I hope it stays like that .
Good to see you on here Grammaretto . I hope you have a comfortable day.
MaryDoll I hope that you start to feel better soon 😀

Autumncolours Thu 02-Jan-25 09:01:26

Good morning all. Late again but I’ve been enjoying reading everyone’s news. When it’s this cold and icy it’s tempting to hunker down in bed and put off getting up! Sorry to hear about so many accidents and poorly people - these things always seem more prevalent in January! Hope things improve for you all soon. Take care.

Marydoll Thu 02-Jan-25 08:59:28

Good morning all from Glasgow, as Kalu, it is -2°C. I am glad I have an excuse for staying home!

Kalu, how awful for your daughter, especially as you yourself suffered similar trauma and you can't be there to support your daughter.
As one, who has cement holding her vertebrae together, after doing something similar one Christmas Day and going to work for sixth month undiagnosed, I know how awful the pain is. I wish her a very speedy recovery.💐

Good luck Madeleine. I once came back from Spain with severe cellulitis, my GP said I was lucky I hadn't developed sepsis, it was so severe. Now at the very first sign of it, I contact my G.P. No messing about.

As for Grammaretto, what a woman! She sent a video of her, home from hospital. You would never have known she had major surgery. I wish you a speedy recovery.
Bella, your poor DD must be in agony and so hard for you, being so far away from her.

Yesterday, I managed to get up for a hour to make Mr MD's traditional New Year steak pie. I felt guilty, he has been living off whatever he has found in the fridge or freezer and is not the best of cooks.
I literally threw it all together and fortunately there was a puff pastry in the fridge, surprisingly in date nothing much else was. Ironically, he said it was one of the nicest he had ever tasted. I then crawled back to bed and slept!

He has looked after me so well, usually he gets in a flap and isn't sure what to do. Both hips have been unbearably painful with my RA, so he keeps bringing hot water bottles to ease the pain. However, hot water water bottles, when you have a high temp, are not the best of ideas.🥵🤣

I feel slightly improved today, so will try to get up for a bit. DS wants to visit with BabyDoll, but I have sadly put him off. She is full on and thinks I am her pal, I am not that improved 😉 I do not have the energy, to cope with visitors.

Have a good day folks and hugs for all, who find this time very difficult. 💕

Good morning from coastal West Sussex. Blue sky out there - what a lovely change.

My lovely neighbour came over for a drink and nibbles yesterday. She didn’t expect to see 2025 as she had a terminal lung cancer diagnosis last year. She has an air of wry amusement at having ‘outwitted’ the doctors - a reaction, I think, to feeling completely abandoned as they ‘can do nothing for her’. I am reading a book about a doctor who practised in the Scottish Borders in the late 19th/early 20th century. He regularly checks on sick and dying patients. A very different time but very hard in many ways.

I am very excited because I have just heard Melvyn Bragg say they will be talking about slime moulds at 9. We were shown one of these on a tree trunk on Brownsea Island a few years ago and I have looked out for one since then but they are hard to spot.

Hope all the poorly people have a better day.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 02-Jan-25 08:43:43

Gingster I had a feeling you would come back here early, I know how much you dislike that bridge even in good weather.

Safe journey x

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 02-Jan-25 08:29:19

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where I’ve have frost on the rooftops. Dry though. A morning of laundry and bit light dusting, shower hairwash but not starting any of that for at least a couple of hours! Newspapers, emailing friends first.

This afternoon I’m meeting a neighbour from 4 doors along the decking for coffee. Her husband died from cancer on Christmas Eve last year. She shares her time between here and Greece so I suggested a catch up whilst she’s back here. She’s only mid-60’s and although outwardly ‘fine’ she confided that she’s struggling, poor woman. Totally understandable.

GrannySomerset Thu 02-Jan-25 08:25:03

Up and about so I can ring the builder when they open at 9.00 am in the hope that someone will come soon to look at the kitchen leak. Need to shop too as not much fresh left and the forecast for tomorrow onwards isn’t very promising. The cold weather has already arrived but it’s fine and calm just now.

brook2704 Thu 02-Jan-25 08:20:13

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s cold and we’ve snow on the ground
So sorry to hear about both your poorly daughters Kalu and Bellas, hoping they are a bit better soon
Yesterday we enjoyed the afternoon at my friends house, today I really must catch up on jobs and start some cleaning. I’ll take the decorations down as I go along
We’ll done grammaretto wishing you a speedy recovery
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Kalu Thu 02-Jan-25 08:17:41

Your poor DD Bellasnana. It seems we are both in the same difficult situation wishing we were both nearby to care for our DDs.

Thank you all for such lovely messages. I suffered a spinal fracture a few years ago so know how much DD will be suffering. She is a strong character with a positive outlook, she will get through this.

A lovely surprise to see you on here this morning Grammaretto. Look after yourself and I hope a speedy recovery is ahead.

BlueSapphire Thu 02-Jan-25 08:10:28

Good morning everyone from a very cold and frosty Northampton, -1° here. I don't have to go out anywhere today, so will stay in the warm. I have my personal radiator (one of the cats!) on my lap at the moment.

I too watched the Viennese concert yesterday, and marvelled at the age of the conductor, Riccardo Mutti - he is 83! I also watched the Nutcracker, an English National Ballet production,.which has been part of a series on Sky Arts. Spent the evening catching up on more programmes.

Have decided to take down the decorations and tree on Saturday, as I have nothing else planned that day.

Sainsbury's delivery late morning, and the dishwasher to empty, the stairs need vacuuming, and the bathroom floors to mop. Then to think of what I fancy for dinner.

Hope the poorlies find some relief today, and that all have a pleasant day.

ginny Thu 02-Jan-25 08:06:52

Good morning from N. Bucks, dry and still after the complete opposite yesterday.

We are going to visit my Sister in Law today, the first time since my brother died last week. We ha spoken on the phone several times. She is need img help with some paperwork and instructions for using mobile phone and laptop which she has never been very keen on before.

Sorry to hear of the accidents and illnesses of DDs and Sisters and hope for a better day for all poorly GN friends.
Good wishes to all.

EkwaNimitee Thu 02-Jan-25 08:04:59

Good morning Mick and everyone from dark, freezing Carlisle. It's -4°C! So glad I don't have to go out today, the car is well frosted up.

I did get out yesterday for a walk in the park. The poor widowed swan and her cygnets were still there but I was delighted to see she had been joined by several others. Two were certainly adult males...they were spending much of their time whizzing around with uplifted wings chasing off rivals. They seemed to have mates so maybe the widowed one remains single, we'll see. I hope the newcomers stay around.

As for the rest of yesterday, I had a long phone chat with my sister and a video call with DS2. And I nobly ran the vacuum around!
Today, back to normal, I shall load the washer, vacuum upstairs and then we'll see...I'm still looking at my new pile of books. I think I will declare a moratorium on book buying, to last several months. The same ought to apply to sweaters though I shan't resist a look at the sales in town.

What an interesting, fun family you have Mizuna!

A speedy recovery to you Grammaretto, you are best out of hospitals and all their germs.

Welcome K25K, just on the opposite coast from me!

I hope Marydoll can get out of her bed today and that all poorlies are now on the mend. And commiserations to those who have started the New Year badly.

Have the best possible day all of you.

Gingster Thu 02-Jan-25 08:04:55

Good morning from a calm but chilly Suffolk seaside.

We have decided to go back to Essex today as the forecast for the next few days is icy, windy and very cold.
It’s lovely being here but we need to travel back in relatively good weather.

I will miss my book club on Friday evening but I’ve e mailed my thoughts on the book and offered a choice for this month.

Gramaretto take care. It’s very early days.
Sorry to hear of your DD’s pain Bellasnanna and Kalu. I hope they recover well.

Take care all

Georgesgran Thu 02-Jan-25 08:00:16

Good Morning from Durham. No snow here Harri, but it’s very cold and my lawn is crispy - I’ve been on it to feed the birds. The charming DGS2 appears to have shared his cold with me, but I won’t let it prevent me from meeting a friend for coffee, although I’ll warn her and understand if she cancels. Little Dog is here, so a walk in daylight later.
I hope post op recoveries continue on track and that our poorly GNs and their loved ones are improving, however slowly.

Best wishes to all. X

Liberty Thu 02-Jan-25 07:56:58

Good morning from a frosty and dry Suffolk. I’m off to my stretch class shortly and then no more classes for 2 weeks as the village hall where the classes are held is closed for redecoration.

It’s good to get back into my normal routine and I hope those who are unwell can soon return to theirs whatever it is. Thinking of those and others worried about family members who are ill.
