Good morning from a dark, dry Bristol. We are to have lots of sun today, after yesterday’s horrible, wet and windy weather.
My little tea party for residents went well. I had invited those who I knew could be alone all day - it’s a rather sad day not seeing anyone.
I’ve got an empty today; letters to write/answered.
I hope the poorly and sad have a better day. Travellers, keep safe. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩

Good mornng from a very dark and still North Yorkshire. Cant even see the outline of the tree it is so dark. Woke with wretched cramp again, so hobbling around but am going to make the most of being early and surprise Tesco by being there as they open the doors. Must get milk and in particular the local paper. So this morning after the shopping , have to go to the dr's. My leg is very red, a bit swollen and itchy. That was how the cellulitis started last time. Once you have had it , apparently you are more likely to get it again. So not got an appointment , but when I had a problem before and waited to make an appointment they told me I should have come in earlier! Cant win can you? So I will have the paper with me, and am happy to see the nurse rather than the doctor, I shall sit and wait if there is a chance someone can look this morning. As it is thursday, it will be better if I need to do something to do it today than end up on friday afternoon having to go to the hospital. Oh well , with a bit of luck they will say dont worry and I shall escape.Hope everyone has a good day and we are slowly getting back to our routines , which can be quite nice after all the festivities .

Good morning from the NE where we had a fall of snow last night and it is still lying.
Yesterday DD, SIL and I watched the concert from Vienna then after lunch DS and family visited. DS wasn't well, thinks it is a reaction to his MMR vaccination.
My sister rang from the hospital in Germany, she really has had a traumatic time. She has at least another two weeks as an inpatient and she is now talking about a care facility until the neck brace is removed at three months.
I was so tired last night I just had a pizza and was in bed by 9pm.
No visitors today so will do some tidying up and then read my book.
Have a good day.

RosesandLilac Thu 02-Jan-25 06:13:41

Good morning, it’s very dark, cold and quiet here in south Glos, I’m hoping we don’t get snow.
A lovely time with DS and family yesterday, they enjoyed seeing their friends and were back late afternoon. Lots of chatter and playing games after supper.
They’re heading home today, I will miss them.
Tidying up and washing planned for today, a dog walk then back to my normal quiet routine.
I hope you have a good day 🌹

Good morning from a dark, damp Cornwall where the stars are shining brightly above my patio. A fun time with my son yesterday at his flat and today I'm off to Tehidy woods near the north coast with him and his 15 year-old son. The very confident squirrels will come up to us begging for nuts so I must take a pocketful.

Before then I have some sewing to do, re-making a dress, and will pack away my Christmas decorations.

Meanwhile my other son is introducing his children to exploration of abandoned tin mines. They love it! 😳😁

K25K Thu 02-Jan-25 06:25:20

Good Morning from Newcastle. As normal it is damp and cold. Nevermind could be worse. Going to work later. New to this not sure if I have successfully posted anything yet

Kalu Thu 02-Jan-25 06:25:25

Good morning all. It’s -2deg. with a heavy frost in Glasgow with sun forecast for this afternoon.

A disastrous start to the year for DD2 in Brisbane. She slipped on the stairs at home and has fractured her spine, L2/3/4. I know she will be well looked after by SiL and his family but it’s on occasions like this is when I realise just how far away she is and I can’t be with her and will have to make do with FaceTime for updates and to see her.
Scripts to collect today will be my only outing, happy to return to a cosy home to do as I please. Hoping I won’t jinx it, but sciatic pain is gradually lessening, ergo, no more brain fog from heavy duty pain relief. 🤯

Hope you are recovering well,Grammaretto without too much pain.
Going through a tough time at the moment, you are in my thoughts and hoping today is a better day for you Marydoll

Best wishes to all especially those with worries, sadness or struggling through difficult times.

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from a very cold South Yorkshire. Frost on my car this morning. Going to be a bright day though. DD and the menfolk came mid morning for a hearty cooked breakfast yesterday and left about one. GS was unusually quiet - I think New Year revels were taking their toll! I set about taking down the Christmas tree and finishing putting away the decorations but I need to buy some plastic boxes for storing them in the loft as the cardboard ones are the worse for wear now. Watched ‘The History Boys’ last night. I’d forgotten what a good film it was. I shall spend part of today sorting out my writing folder, keeping the best of last year’s efforts and making a new one for this year. I have a couple of pieces to finish for next week’s session.
Have the best day you can, folks.

Greyduster Thu 02-Jan-25 06:29:21

Welcome aboard K25K!

Kalu Thu 02-Jan-25 06:30:28

Best wishes for a speedy recovery to your sister Harrigran
A warm welcome K25K, yes, you have successfully posted. Enjoy this lovely thread.

Good morning from s somerset, it will be sunny, bright and very cold today

I am on track with my jumper knitting, the patterns are becoming ingrained and it was not so slow and tricky yesterday, a few more days should see me doing the bottom rib. It does feel lovely, smooth and warm

Today I am doing a few preps ready for the snow and freezing weather, one is to get to the plot and put the black tap covers on the water butts. I will be bringing more fuel
into the house and getting a thermos out of store

More pottering today, it is good practice for me to keep on top of things that need doing, nothing then becomes too much.

Have a good day

Ilovepuffins Thu 02-Jan-25 06:34:06

Good morning from a dark and dry Oxfordshire.
Forecast to be a lovely sunny day.
Work day for me, I only work 2 days a week and they always seem to be on the best weather days!
Our niece continues to make good progress, still in the ICU but doing well.
madeleine45 I hope you get to see a doctor or nurse today. My late FIL suffered with cellulitis and I feel for you.
Harrigran your poor sister really is having a tough time.
Hope everyone has a good day

Grammaretto Thu 02-Jan-25 06:36:33

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. Snow on the ground.

I had my hip replacement on NYE and here I am home on NYD!
I think they wanted to clear the wards.

So at midday I was asked if someone was fetching me. Phoned DS who left Edinburgh right away and I was ready packed up with drugs and gadgets galore.
It's good to be out of hospital. Even one night with little sleep the nurses were having a midnight celebration
Being woken to be given pills to help you sleep, BP etc. The staff were lovely though.

Sorry about your poor sister Harrigran 😔

Hope everyone has a good day.

Ilovepuffins Thu 02-Jan-25 06:41:51

Wow that was quick Grammaretto!
Glad all went well and you are home again.

Grammaretto Thu 02-Jan-25 06:42:21

Your poor DD Kalu. That's a bummer as they say down under. I feel your frustration 🫤

Big NY welcome to K25K.

Bellasnana Thu 02-Jan-25 06:43:52

Good morning from Malta where a high of 16°C and a low of 10°C is the forecast for today with a chance of showers.

Your poor daughter Kalu, I hope she will get well soon.

My DD1 has started the year with shingles on her head, face and eyelid. She lives in Washington DC so I’m not able to go and look after her.

Good to hear you are home after your surgery Grammaretto. Take care.

No plans today other than a bit of ironing and housework.

Have a good day all.☀️

Ashcombe Thu 02-Jan-25 06:47:06

Good morning from a cold Torbay with the promise of sunshine.

Yesterday morning we also enjoyed the New Year's Day concert from Vienna, harrigran, especially the ballet interlude in the second half. I think it’s available on iPlayer. Every night is quiz night over the festive period so we are loving the back to back screening of Osman, Myrie, Coren Mitchell and Rajan presenting their respective quizzes on BBC2.

Yesterday marked four weeks since my hospital stay and I was pleased to find that walking to the Downs is becoming virtually pain free. Cheering news!

Safe journeys to those on the move and well wishes to those who are poorly, especially your DD2, Kalu- poor lady! Take care, Grammaretto and good luck with your recovery.

I’m so pleased about such a great improvement, Ash.
Wonderfully short hospital stay, grammaretto. I hope your progress is as spectacular as.

Susan56 Thu 02-Jan-25 07:10:15

Good morning from Shropshire where sun is forecast.

We enjoyed the concert from Vienna too.We have also been enjoying the quizzes although last night we watched Vera.

Today we are looking after H while DD, SIL and DGD go to the theatre in Liverpool. Both children are coming back here for two nights.

Wishing you a speedy recovery Grammaretto and good to hear how well you are doing Ash.

I hope you get an appointment today madeleine.Thoughts with all unwell.Kalu and Bellasnanna,I hope your daughters both get well soon.It must be so difficult for you both with them living so far away.

Welcome K25k.

Have the best day you can everyone🦩

cornergran Thu 02-Jan-25 07:13:24

Morning Mick, morning All from a cold, dry corner of Somerset. Suspect there’s ice on the car, it was so wet yesterday.

Christmas decorations were stored away, separated some ready for a charity shop next November, gradually reducing quantity. A surprise flying visit from our son and the teenagers yesterday evening cheered me.

We plan to join the inevitable queue for the recycling centre this morning then on to a grocery top up via a restorative coffee. Admin for me this afternoon.

Welcome K25k. You do sound better ash, good to hear. Wow that was quick grammaretto, please be careful. You must be worried about your daughter kalu, thank goodness for FaceTime. Hope there’s less worrying news of your sister harri and marydoll feels more comfortable. Thoughts as ever to all finding life hard going for whatever reason.

Have the best day you can everyone.

kittylester Thu 02-Jan-25 07:13:32

Good morning all from a very cold North Leicestershire.

Some normality today. It is our first Memoru Cafe of the new year and we have a lot of couples intending to attend. I do hope the hall is warm.

DH's gym is introducing new classes this year so he is trying out something different today.

Sainsbury's delivery this evening. I do like to be back in a routine - I then enjoy the down time.

Have the best day possible and stay warm.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 02-Jan-25 07:16:10

Morning everyone 🙋‍♀️

Sending ((hugs)) to Kalu and Bellasnana I expect you both want to be able to nurse your DDs.

I think my cleaning fairies are here first thing 🤞I have removed Christmas decorations from all bedrooms and upstairs bathrooms, all beds changed (my ironing pile is horrendous!)

Will leave downstairs decorations up until twelfth night.

Wishing you well 🙋‍♀️

Redcar Thu 02-Jan-25 07:17:29

Good morning from Essex, still dark outside so I don’t know what the weather is like. Forecast is for a cold but sunny day. Yesterday was dreadful, windy, wet and not as mild as forecast. I’m back at DD1s as I have a consultant appointment at 9.30 today, hopefully he will be encouraging about my recovery from hip replacement.
grammaretto that was a brief stay in hospital for your hip replacement! Take it easy at home.
marydoll I hope you feel better today and manage to leave your bed!
kalu your poor daughter! I hope she recovers soon, spinal fractures can be very painful and have long term effects.
Have the best day possible everyone, may we all find some sunshine.

GrandmaC47 Thu 02-Jan-25 07:47:17

Good morning and a Happy New Year to everyone from a very frosty Co Durham. Good to see improvements in some of the poorlies. Hope those with worries about family get better news.
Our New Year begins badly. Took dh to surgery on Monday and they booked him in for a scan on Tuesday at a local hospital. They diagnosed a DVT and he was immediately given blood thinners. So impressed by the speed and thoroughness of everyone we saw. I’m rambling a bit, sorry.
I may not post often but will try to keep up with you all.
