A few of us were talking about pre planning, booking holidays, shows etc. on NYE. We are planning a cruise ( again) ,this time with Probus up the Eastern coast of Australia, and a trip to New Zealand with one of our grandchildren later in the year. Our friends are planning a trip to Thailand and they are coming on the same cruise as us. One couple is planning a trip to Russia to see the Hermitage museum- I don’t think I would be game to go there just now. They have worked out how to get entry into the country - very brave .Our government advises us not to go there.

No. No money. End of.

Me too, am broke. Essentials only….

My only plan for 2025 is an essential cataract operation in a fortnight.

No plans. Just to recover from having half my pancreas removed due to cancer.
Been to Russia or the USSR as it was called back then in the 80s.
I was in a girls choir and we were invited to do a tour of concerts around the USSR paid for by the Russian coal miners union. It was during the miners strike.
The only thing we had to pay was the insurance but the Russian coal miners union gave us all a gift of 10 rubles so in the end it cost us nothing.
It was an amazing trip.
They flew us to the Ukraine to do some concerts there too.
It was an amazing trip.
We visited lots of places including the Hermitage, The space centre, Red square where we saw Lenin in his coffin.
St Bazil’s Cathedral among other places. It was a fascinating trip. The people were extremely friendly and accommodating.
We so enjoyed it. We didn’t want to leave.
Wouldn’t go now though but each to their own.

Is it really schizophrenia Kimski? I have seen people with Lewi body dementia display the same symptoms of hearing voices and hallucinations. Very worrying for families.

Only plan so far is a further blood test and a hospital appointment. My sister will organise our holiday later in the year, she does it because she does the driving but she always checks whether I'm in favour of what she chooses. I hate having every day planned out, I much prefer days where I can do as I please.

Kimski44 Fri 03-Jan-25 11:54:27

Yes, we are going ski-ing next week. I hope to continue to ski for a good few more years and hope to take my grandchildren for the very first time either later this season or next season.
In early April, we have planned a short trip to southern Italy.
Then, we will see how it goes - I have a mother with very very late onset schizophrenia (never saw that one coming out of the blue - most people get dementia or Alzheimer’s, not this) and she lives alone (her choice) so……. now she is refusing her medication again, I am at the point of not so much giving up, but realising there is little I can do and so don’t want to continue putting our lives hold after what has been a horrendous last two years.

No. No money. End of.

We have booked our first holiday in four years - Cornwall in July. We have a couple of shows booked - Calamity Jane courtesy of DD for Christmas and the fabulous George Harrison Project. DD has also asked me to keep a certain date free as me, her and DGD are 'doing something'. Intriguing.

Gosh you all seem to be spending a lot of money on expensive trips

My twin sons are 40 in June and I am stuck for something to do preferably with the family. We are 8 adults and 6 children ages 1 to 5. Can't organise anything else until I ve got this sorted. We live down south and in East Anglia. Anyone got any ideas?

We have planned 25 days touring South Africa for our golden wedding anniversary. It will be luxurious with a trip on the Blue Train including a butler, safari and nice hotels. Having never had luxury holidays, I may find I can’t live without a butler after this!! Don’t think we will be celebrating another golden wedding anniversary though so pushing the boat out. Also it’s all organised for us so no stress either. Can’t wait.

We’re waiting for DH tests to come back 🤞 But hoping to have a weekend away with our friends in March, then our son is running in the London marathon this year, so along with our other son and family we’re all going to cheer him on, that's the end of April.
We want to visit North Devon again, DH loved it so much last time, it’s about 6 years ago now so that’ll probably be at the beginning of July.
Our friends are globetrotters and want us to go somewhere with them, but it’ll mean renewing both our passports and we’re really not that bothered. Have to see how DH is first anyway.

The Hermitage is amazing especially if you cross the square and go into the modern art section. However anyone who goes to Russia just now is bonkers. I don’t think travel insurance will cover you if FO is saying not to go. I went in 2019 and because we spoke to Russian teenagers on a train we were questioned by the FBS.

Jaxjacky Thu 02-Jan-25 14:23:29

Lose the 10lb I shouldn’t be carrying.
Grow more vegetables than I do now
Continue no flying, short UK breaks
Learn a craft I can actually use the end product of

MissAdventure Thu 02-Jan-25 14:01:52

Enough to be going along with.

Pantglas2 Thu 02-Jan-25 13:32:46

After 13 years we recently sold mi Casa in Spain and although we enjoyed other holidays in many different places during that time, we now feel the world truly is our oyster, all dependent on good health of course.

Also our Ruby wedding is in May and my 70th in December so plans are afoot to splash out in a way we might not otherwise have done.

I love reading where everyone else is going 🤗

Norah Thu 02-Jan-25 12:53:17

Skiing in January and February. Desert Southwest of USA in April. Australia in July for my husband's work (I'll go with). No further plans yet, until November and December mini breaks.

“Do more things that make me happy this year”.

What an inspiring post Mogsmaw.
I’ll join you!

nanna8 Thu 02-Jan-25 11:55:24

I love the Messiah. It lifts your heart .

Mogsmaw Thu 02-Jan-25 11:48:55

I’m off to Handle’s Messiah today at the RCH.
I’m planning to just do more things that make me happy this year. So I’m starting with a “Hallelujah”!

crazyH Thu 02-Jan-25 11:37:47

No foreign holidays for me again. Been there, done them. The Hermitage was indeed well worth it. So was the Louvre. and ofcourse , the Sistine chapel. I am in awe of these Masters. I am not into beach holidays. Btw, did you hear that recently , an eagle-eyed art specialist discovered another hidden figure in the Sistine Chapel.!!!

Poppyred Thu 02-Jan-25 11:29:59

Thinking of down sizing (again). Going to see a semi new build next week. Love our house so it will have to tick all the boxes.
DH and I both have big birthdays this year, as well as two ACs and grandson so looking forward to celebrating.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 02-Jan-25 11:23:17

We live from scan to scan, every 12 weeks for Himself at the Christie and fit in what we can around treatments when necessary. We hope (🤞) to be going to our little apartment in Málaga at the end of February. We’ve got travel insurance (£1,500 p.a. Just for Himself) and we hope very much to be able to make great use of it this year, all being well. Lots of short stays (say 10 days) maybe once a month if allowed rather than the 4/5 week breaks we used to enjoy pre-diagnosis. We are so lucky at present to be able to (guardedly) look forward but we do so now in a very measured way. We used to plan ahead with gay abandon - we would rack & stack holidays since retirement 10 years ago - but life sometimes has a way of reining you in.
