Good morning from a fffreezing Co Armagh !
Son queried my heating being on , how do you convince a smart middle aged man that thermostats work better than turning heating on and off ?
Said son is celebrating his 56th birthday today , we are going to the pub for lunch , it’s just round the corner so no driving involved
Keep safe , keep warm , keep well 🕯️💐

Morning all from a cold dreich Kent. Everything still covered in thick frost. Kalu DH and I watched the Six Triple Eight film the other night. What a story and all true. The environment the women worked in was awful, they were treated so badly. We laughed at their arrival in ‘Glasgow’ - even allowing for the redevelopment of the docks, it didn’t look anything like Glasgow! Funny when you see that the city stands in for American cities often in movies!
Not planning anything exciting today, freezer still full so no shopping necessary. DH will be glued to the telly while I tackle the Times (London not Evening! ) crossword.
Have a warm day everyone!

Good morning from West Sussex. It is grey out there and slightly warmer.

After a reasonably productive day on Thursday, I slept most of yesterday. DH says I must go to the doctor. I was supposed to have a blood test for anaemia months ago but it’s such a faff getting an appointment.

RosesandLilac, that’s worrying about your kidney problem.
FGT, hope you recover quickly. I dread getting one of these bugs. Thoughts with Marydoll and Grandmabatty, hope you will both be fully recovered soon.
ginny, what a hard time you are having- no need to apologise on here 💐

Lovely to read of daffodils, in brightly wrapped bunches, from Mizuna, and peeping through the frosted earth, from Taichinan,

Good morning all. Very cold and frosty on Severnside.
I’m going to move all the decorations from their display places and put them on the dining room table ready to put away on Monday this morning.
Afterwards I’ll get ready to go to a panto with my daughter.

Have cosy day everyone 🧤🧦🧣

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where it’s frosty. We are not going anywhere. I’ve got a gastric bug so I’m staying home warm and rested. Bananas, white toast, plain boiled potatoes again today for me and when I speak to my stepfather today I shall be cancelling our Sunday lunch meet up.

Good morning from a flipping freezing North Yorkshire. I glimpsed 3 brass monkeys passing by the window!! Awake before 5am and flipping cramp again. I am just sick of starting every day in pain from one thing and another!! It was so bitterly cold, but I could not lie comfortably in bed so got up and had my dressing gown and wrapped round in a blanket, but frozen toes and hands! So tucked up I always mark up any thing that is happening from the local paper and then I have gone through it and made a note on the calendar so I wont forget things. My old address book has been looking very tatty with lots of out of date numbers or friends who have sadly died. Its one where you write the name and number on a stiff piece of card and then put it all in alphabetical order. So this morning I got my tweezers out to get the paper from the hole. I t was easier than trying to do it with my fingers. So have thrown out of date stuff away and plan to use it , not for addresses but email and passwords. It can go in the drawer and will not be visible but at the moment I have stuff written in columns and backs of diarys. so hoping for that to go well and tidy things up I need to go out for one or two bits but mostly my Yorkshire Post. It keeps on going up, but I read all the news, give the sporting paper to an elderly friend who enjoys it . Then as with the radio times, this paper does not come under the heading of books that must never be written in, or corners folded over etc. I collect all the local news referring to this weekend and send a little synopsis to the womens group members and it is pleasing when I see them the following week and they say how pleased they were not to missed something. So it will be a very careful trip out to the newsagents and the market and then home and try to keep warm. It is such a raw day today. There was a trip from Pickering to Whitby on the train and I thought it might be good to go on it, but the weather is too bad.So hoping to get the jobs done and then will be happy to stay indoors. Those wretched borrowers must still be behind the skirting boards! Now my good hairbrush has gone missing and the tin opener that is the good one is nowhere to be seen. Right now I really feel like throwing everything up into the air, screaming Aaah and going back to bed. Never mind just seen something cheery. Two squirrels running along the fence and down on the grass. Lovely to read all your messages and hope you all keep safe and warm

Taichinan Sat 04-Jan-25 09:24:17

Good morning all. Another glorious day on the Angus coast and sunrise was one minute earlier today than yesterday. At last we're moving in the right direction. Yesterday I noticed the noses of my many daffodils poking through the frozen earth. How do they do that! They won't bloom until the end of March/early April but what a beacon of hope to remember through 'the dark days'. I haven't been round to the far end of the garden for a while where the snowdrops should be appearing - maybe I'll do that later, as this is forecast to be the last sunny day for a few days.
Nothing to else to report from here - I'm just enjoying the peace of the quiet days before tai chi classes resume next week, I'm also thinking of so many of you on here with health mountains to climb, and also of my DGS who is mountaineering with such cheerful, absolute confidence in his consultant. You are all so very brave x

Good morning Mick and all from a cold northwest coast.
Cousin’s 70th party tonight so yesterday into town and bought champagne and flowers. M&S out of sequin studded tights my DD wore over Christmas so I am going to mend some black lacey tights instead.

Night sky lovely as I went round next door on cat feeding duty, sickle moon and Venus aloft.
Thoughts to all🌺

Good morning from a frosty N.Bucks.

I haven’t read through the posts yet, will come back later.
Feeling quite down at the moment which is unusual for me.
A bad ending to last year, , family illness, my diagnosis, death of my brother and now DD3 discovered yesterday that the house she was o excited to be buy has fallen through. The seller has decided not to move after all. Plus , today would have been my brothers birthday.
Sorry to be a misery guts it is unusual for me. I I’ll give myself a stern talking to and sort myself out.

My best wishes to you all.

GrannySomerset Sat 04-Jan-25 08:55:21

Another white frost and even though the heating has been on fora couple of hours the house feels cold. Layers of clothes will obviously be essential while I decide whether I need anything from the village or can just live out of the freezer for a little while. Hope everyone stays safe and warm and that at least we don’t have power cuts. I can cope with anything but that.

BlueSapphire Sat 04-Jan-25 08:45:54

Good morning everyone from an overcast and frosty Northampton, not as much frost as yesterday.
Was another day indoors yesterday, with a brief foray to the garage freezer to put the bean chillies in; will need.to venture there again today to find a hotpot to thaw out overnight in the fridge - tomorrow's dinner sorted. Also need to freeze some leftover curry from yesterday.
Started my new book club read yesterday afternoon - made a list of this year's books to pin up on the kitchen notice-board.

Thinking of wrapping up well and hopping on the bus to M&S Food while it's still dry, as there's a few things I need.

Take care if out and about today.

Grandmabatty Sat 04-Jan-25 08:43:59

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 0° and looks icy out. Grammaretto take care and try to nap when you can. Kalu that sounds hard for you.
Yesterday I pottered about but was mainly lazy as my stomach was still giving me trouble. Last night I had a really bad night's sleep because of the pains in my feet, an occasional issue with diabetes.
Today will be another quiet day at home. If the ice thaws, I'll take a trip to Aldi for bread and milk before the forecasted snow tomorrow. I have housework which needs doing although I lack all inclination. I,too, have a fridge which needs cleared out. Have a good day all

Gingster Sat 04-Jan-25 08:40:45

Good morning all and it’s frosty but not too bad here in Essex.

A lovely sunny day yesterday and that night sky was a treat to behold.

We met our Friday friends and helped one couple out of their car and across the icy carpark. They’re a poorly couple and had both fallen the previous day. I don’t know how they manage together but it’s very hard for them. So sad !

Not sure what’s on today , hopefully not much in this weather. I might just pop to a local Tesco for a chicken - don’t need much else.

Cornergran I hope today is a better one for you. ‘Mama said there’d be days like this’ 🎶.
RoseandLilac sorry to hear news re your kidneys. Buggeration indeed.💐.
Mizuna your day with your gd sounds priceless. Memories made . She will always remember that day she painted with you and recall happy times. ❤️.

Take care everyone, especially in these icy times. 🥶

Marydoll Sat 04-Jan-25 08:37:08

Good morning from Glasgow, where it is 0°C.

Kalu, I am sorry to hear about your withdrawal symptoms. At the beginning of my pain journey, I was prescribed Amitryptillin, it gave me awful night terrors, that idea was quickly binned! I do hope you begin to feel better as the day goes on.
Grammaretto, I was telling my husband what a trooper you are, I hope you continue to make good progress.

I am still feeling quite ropey, so I will not be going to Mass tonight, that's two weekends I have missed. People will think I have died. Everyone else in the family took three days to get over it, this is day eight for me.😡

The gifter of the lurgy is coming to visit today, along with her clean bill of health certificate. I have really missed both her and Dollie,
DD popped in with flowers and chocs yesterday. It was so lovely to see her. She too was badly affected by the bug.

Safe journey to all, who have to travel. Pants, I do like the sound of your morning out!

Have a good Saturday, everyone.

Susan56 Sat 04-Jan-25 08:37:03

Good morning from Shropshire.Rain and snow forecast later.

DD will collect the children at 11.We will then take the decorations down.

Take care out and about everyone🦩

Liberty Sat 04-Jan-25 08:23:33

Good morning from a very frosty Suffolk. I think we will escape any snow as it looks as though the coastal strip of East Anglia will br snow free. We’ll see if the forecast is right.

Yesterday we had phone calls from both daughters saying that,as the news had repeatedly told them to check up on the elderly, that’s what they were doing! Since both live 5 hours away in opposite parts of the country,as I jokingly told them,it was lovely,as always,to hear from them but there wasn’t much they could do if we weren’t ok.

We’ll have a walk with the dog mid morning and, apart from our weekly Waitrose delivery this afternoon,we’ll just hunker down and enjoy the warmth of our home and quiet activities.

We noticed yesterday that there were several clumps of primroses in the churchyard adjoining our garden but no signs there,or in our garden,of the thousands of snowdrops which are normally clearly visible in late December/ early January with some already in flower. In past years, there has been at least a 2 month gap between them. Obviously an unusual year for spring flowers.

Jaxjacky Sat 04-Jan-25 08:21:27

Morning from a sparkly S Hants, -1, we’ve rain due later prefaced by snow.
MrJ has the sniffles, dosed up before bed, I’m keeping my distance.
Children and grandchildren here for crispy duck and pancakes this evening, ‘vegi duck’ for Imogen, Mac n cheese for Finley who’s ‘not sure’ about the duck.
Our tree and the rest of Christmas will come down tomorrow.
Grammaretto perhaps you can doze later today.
Fingers crossed all those feeling yuk will 8mprove as the day goes on.

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s cold with snow.
Sorry to hear about the kidney problems roses hope you get the tests and treatment soon
Nothing much planned this weekend except gradually getting back to normal after the festivities. The fridge needs a good clean out and a few random things to finish off. I’ve also got lots of bedding to change and sort out
Take care all on the icy roads and pavements if out and about
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

GrannyGravy13 Sat 04-Jan-25 07:55:26

Morning everyone it’s -2° here with a very heavy frost.

I have to go to the local food shop first time since beforehand Christmas. Might start removing the decorations from downstairs rooms and bannisters. I always feel a little bit sad packing them away 😿

The Imp thoroughly enjoyed his birthday celebrations yesterday, culmination with DD3 & 4 give him his present from them at dinner (a Nintendo Switch) he was so thrilled to have his own one and not have to share his brother’s 💙

Keep warm folks 🙋‍♀️

cornergran Sat 04-Jan-25 07:52:52

Morning Mick, morning All. Frosty out there, heating is on and there’s no rush to move.

What a day yesterday. Both breakfasts were served cold and had to be returned, my blood test couldn’t happen as one element can’t be sent for processing on a Friday. The amazed staff member spoke to the doctor who had phoned me, there was an apology, she had muddled the days. Hmm. Back I’ll go next week I guess. Not keen! Finally the replacement jacket has disappeared in transit. It may be found, it may not. Maybe just not meant to be. The afternoon ended well enough when we arrived as Waitrose cafe at the same time as neighbours we rarely see. An hour later we moved into the store.

Today? No plans to venture out, see how the day unfolds.

Go gently kalu and grammaretto. Hope the forecast snow isn’t a problem for anyone needing to travel.

Stay safe and have the best day you can everyone.

Good morning from a cold Essex coast.
My youngest DGD is 7 today, she is going to the Harry Potter Experience as a surprise. We will see her tomorrow.
We are off to my brother and SIL'S wedding party this evening.
I hope the dreaded M25 is kind to us.
DH has suggested we call in at Bluewater on the way this morning.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend without too many hiccups xxx

luluaugust Sat 04-Jan-25 07:46:02

Good morning from 0 degrees W Kent
Successful check up yesterday on my eye, Consultant said I was very brave as I didn’t ask for a tranquiliser, I must be daft as it didn’t occur to me. Other eye to be done soon.
Shopping today for family visiting tomorrow. I used to dish up for 10 or more regularly but it is a rare event now, just hope I’m up to it
Best wishes to all
