Good morning from a dry, frosty Bristol. Wasn’t it gorgeous yesterday? The nacreous sunrise over the frost, the brilliant sunshine gladdened the heart.
Open reach decided to dig a trench under my window using the usual pneumatic drill yesterday. I don’t know what they’re doing, but the entire pavement along that bit of road has been dug up. The noise has been rather unpleasant.
Other than that, it has been a quiet day.
DD turned up for a surprise short visit; it was nice to see her.
My neighbour came round for a cuppa, otherwise a very quiet day.
Today, being Saturday (like madeleine, I’m completely muddled for days over this festive period) I shall go to the church coffee and chat.
I hope no one is suffering too much from th3 forecasted bad weather. Tomorrow is supposed to be dreadful.
Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩

Good morning Mick and all from a cold north Wales where I’m enjoying my wakey wakey Yorkshire Gold - gosh those first few mouthfuls really hit the spot😋

A lovely evening with friends last night and we took time to stop nattering and view the stunning 🌙 and Venus all clear as a bell!

I’m trotting off for a newspaper anon and by the time I get back Mr PG will have surfaced and be asking what’s our plans are…nowt exciting is the answer! Hop on the bus to Conwy to collect his script, coffee and 🍰 at Canteen then home!

Hope you’ve all got something more interesting going on 😉 and all unwell are @ tad better 💐

Good morning from Malta where it’s damp with a high of 17°C and a low of 10°C forecast.

Yesterday I had totally forgotten I had promised to look after the boys so I was very happy when DD3 reminded me and I spent a lovely afternoon with them whilst she was out. I’m on duty again this morning so a fun day ahead. They are such sweethearts.

Have a good day everyone.☀️

Good morning from s somerset, it is very cold now with snow later

I had the stove lit all day yesterday and it was so warm and cozy in my house, the fan on top sent the warm air into my hall and some warmth even rose into my bedroom. Today my living room is still warm. Trouble is that it was a dozy warmth, I did not doze but became slothful. Still, it put warmth into the house fabric, which was my aim as well as being a test for very successful top-down lighting.

I found my `safe` walking boots as I need to walk into town at 8am. I have not worn them since I bought them in 2018, after a slip on snow outside my door and they are specifically for slippery walking, I will be putting my trust in them. Never again will I be making an early hair appointment in january. The surface will be like a skating rink

I am not cooking nor baking today, I did make the nicest broccoli stilton soup yesterday. 3 good portions are in my freezer.

Not much wrt jobs today, just prepping the stove for another burn, which is likely to be tomorrow. Everything is in order, tidy enough here

Have a good day

Kalu Sat 04-Jan-25 06:39:51

Good morning all. 2 deg. dry and calm is the forecast for Glasgow today. No sign of the heavy snowfall tomorrow predicted earlier in the week.

Only a slight lingering pain with sciatica which is bearable without pain relief meds. Huge mistake I made was to stop amitriptyline suddenly instead of gradual weaning. I now have terrible withdrawal symptoms including sweating and hallucinations. Driving certainly out of the question atm. Not clever and I do know better than to be so reckless. Back to the drawing board to wean myself off. 🤯

An at home day it is then. Some basic housework and a change of bedding is high on my list. I may even squeeze in a small amount of ironing or…….I may not bother! A new book awaits, The WomanWho Stole My Life, Marian Keyes, a Christmas gift from GD1 sounds like a better option. I enjoyed a new film on Netflix last night, The Six Triple Eight depicting the experiences of African American female soldiers during WW2.

Hope you will feel a bit stronger today Marydoll and you are not suffering too much pain. Same to Grammaretto on the road to recovery.

Best wishes to all for a pleasant day especially those having difficult times whatever they may be.

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from a very cold frosty South Yorkshire. The heating has just kicked on but it’s going to have to work hard today. We have an amber warning for snow today and tomorrow. Oh joy! Another day indoors. Plenty to do, though.
Have the best day you can, folks.

Good morning all from a very cold North Leicestershire.

DS2 called in yesterday afternoon for a more peaceful chat than was possible over Christmas. DGS2 is going travelling soon and I think he wanted to offload a bit.

DH has a new class at the gym this morning and then we are going into Leicester for a bit of shopping.

The new cooker was successfully installed yesterday and now we have to get rid of the expensive mistake we made when we had the kitchen fitted.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Grammaretto Sat 04-Jan-25 07:05:23

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. 1°C & snow expected.

I felt I had no sleep at all last night. Like you Kalu I am trying to wean myself off the strong drugs, maybe
too soon.

I had several welcome visitors yesterday. I was in danger of being bored but they really cheered me. I had to warn them to be careful of the icy path.
Stay safe everyone.

Good morning from a cold, bracing Cornwall. A trip to the north coast beckons. Yesterday I was thrilled to see our regular daffodil seller erecting his canvas kiosk in the town centre from which he will sell daffodils for weeks. He grows and picks them and wraps the bunches in yellow paper. It's the loveliest sight to see people walking around town with bunches of his flowers. He sells narcissi too which always remind me of a business trip to Scilly one February when the air was rich with scent.

My granddaughter and I had the loveliest day together yesterday. I'd saved a long, thin piece of board from a furniture delivery and she did a delightful painting of the heavens with stars and planets, graduating down through shades of blue to a little flower bed at the bottom. I let her use my very costly French acrylic paints and best brushes and she was delighted. As she left she gave me eight hugs, counting them as she went. 😄

Good morning from 0 degrees Cambridgeshire. We rarely have snow here and hoping we will avoid it as DD2 is working 5 til midnight tonight and thinking of her drive home on country roads.

Popping into Cambridge with DD2 today for a browse. We will drive to one of the park & rides and bus it in to the centre as parking in Cambridge is horrendously expensive.

Take care everyone in this wintery icy weather and hope you all have the best day possible ❄️

Ashcombe Sat 04-Jan-25 07:29:07

Good morning from a chilly Torbay where I think we will escape the snow forecast for elsewhere.

I’m pleased to say that our dentist was able to remove part of the broken tooth for DH and thinks the remainder will be ok. Other than that, we shopped for fatballs for DH to put out for the birds in his garden as they’re expensive in France.

Decorations will come down today and some packing will be done in readiness for our departure for Portsmouth tomorrow.

Grammaretto: The early weeks after hip replacement surgery can be uncomfortable for sleeping, especially the requirement to lie on your back. Do you have a reclining chair? I found that worked better for me on some nights.

Be kind to yourself, Kalu, and have an easy day as you readjust the tablets. Hibernating with a new book sounds ideal!

I hope everyone stays well and warm. 🦩🥰❄️💐🦩

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 04-Jan-25 07:30:04

Morning all from a frosty West Oxfordshire.

Today I will be mainly stripping the tree and packing everything away carefully for another year. The Christmas tree salesman swore blind the tree wouldn’t drop needles too badly. Well, we are going to have to put newspaper down before I start! We’ve had to hoover nearly every day.

I’ve got bits of ironing to do and I’m expecting one or two deliveries.

Have a good day everyone and watch out for ice.

monk08 Sat 04-Jan-25 07:30:38

Good morning all from a cold dark Black country.
Haven't slept very well the blood pressure monitor was taking a reading every hour and waking me, still only another 5hrs and I take it back.
No plans only to perhaps have a little sleep this afternoon before meeting friends later.
Well as its Saturday usual full English calling so will catch up with everybody's happenings later, enjoy your day everyone whatever your plans.☀️.

Redcar Sat 04-Jan-25 07:36:59

Good morning from Essex. It’s dry and -2 outside, everything is white and sparkly with frost. I doubt I’ll go out today! A quiet day yesterday, did a little filing of documents that arrived while I was at DDs, so the dining table is a bit clearer. I need to put a few things in the garage, but they can wait until it’s safer to go out there. I did too much earlier in the week and my new hip is complaining about it!
DD2 may come over today, it will be good to see her. None of the usual Saturday classes are taking place today, so an empty weekend for all the family.
Have the best day possible everyone, keep warm and stay safe!

RosesandLilac Sat 04-Jan-25 07:40:07

Good morning from an icy hillside in south Glos, -5° here 🥶
The beautiful sunrise yesterday and clear sky was stunning yesterday on my dog walk, so uplifting to see and enjoy.
I had a cardiac review with my GP, he’s happy with all the test results but unfortunately it appears I have kidney problems , likely failure, that need further investigation as not good 😵‍💫 It probably explains some weird symptoms I’ve been having. Buggeration!
Anyway, a zoom painting class today that I’m looking forward too 😊
Take care and stay warm 🌹

luluaugust Sat 04-Jan-25 07:46:02

Good morning from 0 degrees W Kent
Successful check up yesterday on my eye, Consultant said I was very brave as I didn’t ask for a tranquiliser, I must be daft as it didn’t occur to me. Other eye to be done soon.
Shopping today for family visiting tomorrow. I used to dish up for 10 or more regularly but it is a rare event now, just hope I’m up to it
Best wishes to all

Sar53 Sat 04-Jan-25 07:47:28

Good morning from a cold Essex coast.
My youngest DGD is 7 today, she is going to the Harry Potter Experience as a surprise. We will see her tomorrow.
We are off to my brother and SIL'S wedding party this evening.
I hope the dreaded M25 is kind to us.
DH has suggested we call in at Bluewater on the way this morning.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend without too many hiccups xxx

cornergran Sat 04-Jan-25 07:52:52

Morning Mick, morning All. Frosty out there, heating is on and there’s no rush to move.

What a day yesterday. Both breakfasts were served cold and had to be returned, my blood test couldn’t happen as one element can’t be sent for processing on a Friday. The amazed staff member spoke to the doctor who had phoned me, there was an apology, she had muddled the days. Hmm. Back I’ll go next week I guess. Not keen! Finally the replacement jacket has disappeared in transit. It may be found, it may not. Maybe just not meant to be. The afternoon ended well enough when we arrived as Waitrose cafe at the same time as neighbours we rarely see. An hour later we moved into the store.

Today? No plans to venture out, see how the day unfolds.

Go gently kalu and grammaretto. Hope the forecast snow isn’t a problem for anyone needing to travel.

Stay safe and have the best day you can everyone.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 04-Jan-25 07:55:26

Morning everyone it’s -2° here with a very heavy frost.

I have to go to the local food shop first time since beforehand Christmas. Might start removing the decorations from downstairs rooms and bannisters. I always feel a little bit sad packing them away 😿

The Imp thoroughly enjoyed his birthday celebrations yesterday, culmination with DD3 & 4 give him his present from them at dinner (a Nintendo Switch) he was so thrilled to have his own one and not have to share his brother’s 💙

Keep warm folks 🙋‍♀️

brook2704 Sat 04-Jan-25 08:20:38

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s cold with snow.
Sorry to hear about the kidney problems roses hope you get the tests and treatment soon
Nothing much planned this weekend except gradually getting back to normal after the festivities. The fridge needs a good clean out and a few random things to finish off. I’ve also got lots of bedding to change and sort out
Take care all on the icy roads and pavements if out and about
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Jaxjacky Sat 04-Jan-25 08:21:27

Morning from a sparkly S Hants, -1, we’ve rain due later prefaced by snow.
MrJ has the sniffles, dosed up before bed, I’m keeping my distance.
Children and grandchildren here for crispy duck and pancakes this evening, ‘vegi duck’ for Imogen, Mac n cheese for Finley who’s ‘not sure’ about the duck.
Our tree and the rest of Christmas will come down tomorrow.
Grammaretto perhaps you can doze later today.
Fingers crossed all those feeling yuk will 8mprove as the day goes on.

Good morning from a very frosty Suffolk. I think we will escape any snow as it looks as though the coastal strip of East Anglia will br snow free. We’ll see if the forecast is right.

Yesterday we had phone calls from both daughters saying that,as the news had repeatedly told them to check up on the elderly, that’s what they were doing! Since both live 5 hours away in opposite parts of the country,as I jokingly told them,it was lovely,as always,to hear from them but there wasn’t much they could do if we weren’t ok.

We’ll have a walk with the dog mid morning and, apart from our weekly Waitrose delivery this afternoon,we’ll just hunker down and enjoy the warmth of our home and quiet activities.

We noticed yesterday that there were several clumps of primroses in the churchyard adjoining our garden but no signs there,or in our garden,of the thousands of snowdrops which are normally clearly visible in late December/ early January with some already in flower. In past years, there has been at least a 2 month gap between them. Obviously an unusual year for spring flowers.

Susan56 Sat 04-Jan-25 08:37:03

Good morning from Shropshire.Rain and snow forecast later.

DD will collect the children at 11.We will then take the decorations down.

Take care out and about everyone🦩

Marydoll Sat 04-Jan-25 08:37:08

Good morning from Glasgow, where it is 0°C.

Kalu, I am sorry to hear about your withdrawal symptoms. At the beginning of my pain journey, I was prescribed Amitryptillin, it gave me awful night terrors, that idea was quickly binned! I do hope you begin to feel better as the day goes on.
Grammaretto, I was telling my husband what a trooper you are, I hope you continue to make good progress.

I am still feeling quite ropey, so I will not be going to Mass tonight, that's two weekends I have missed. People will think I have died. Everyone else in the family took three days to get over it, this is day eight for me.😡

The gifter of the lurgy is coming to visit today, along with her clean bill of health certificate. I have really missed both her and Dollie,
DD popped in with flowers and chocs yesterday. It was so lovely to see her. She too was badly affected by the bug.

Safe journey to all, who have to travel. Pants, I do like the sound of your morning out!

Have a good Saturday, everyone.
