I am currently wearing a pair of thick thermal tights under a pair of jogging trousers, a long sleeved thermal underlayer, fleece and padded jacket. Am I out and about in the snow...about 3" deep ....No I am sat huddled over the gas fire!!! Mr H is similarly dressed, apart from the tights, and wearing a wooly hat as he is follicly challenged smile. Hope you are all keeping warm!!

Just seen someone walk down our street in shorts...
Told you we were hardy up here! gringringrin

My son, used to go to school in a short sleeved shirt in the middle of winter. The jacket came off, as soon as he was out of sight.

It is not uncommon here in Glasgow, to see males in shorts, even if it is freezing outside.

Thermal vest and thick tights under t shirt, woolly jumper and thick tweed trousers. Hot water bottle and knitted blanket over my knees while knitting. That’s just in the house. We can’t afford the heating on for more than two hours during the day. What a blooming state of affairs!

No power cut....fingers crossed 🤞...heated throw will be going on after tea and electric blanket before bed. Actually went to bed with socks on hands last night to keep fingers warm. No central heating here as boiler gave up the ghost over Christmas 🥶 but would normally only put on for a couple of hours each night anyway to keep cost down. Has made me appreciate how difficult it must be for those without CH or who can't afford to use it.

I feel so sorry for the homeless.

It’s been mild here today once it started to rain and, I’m lucky that I don’t feel the cold. The heating was on first thing for 2 hours and I’ve just put it back on for another 2 hours to heat to 20 as we will be sitting around later.

I’ve been wearing jeans, sweatshirt and trainers all day. DH will be wearing a thermal roll-neck layer under a hoodie, with jeans and trainers when he gets home as he is always chillier than me.

M &S thermals under most things.

TillyTrotter Sun 05-Jan-25 19:31:39

My internal thermostat is out of kilter as I have been unwell since 29 Dec.
I’m indoors, heating on and wearing saggy loungewear - joggers and hoodie (like PJ’s).
I am warm and comfortable but not fit to open the door to anyone.
Needs must for now.

TillyTrotter Sun 05-Jan-25 19:32:18

My DH keeps saying “it’s too hot in here” as they do.

whywhywhy, thank you for putting our silly twittering into perspective.
It's a big problem with an array of complicated causes. I'm sure many of us donate to help homelessness regularly but it's not enough, is it? 😒

I live in Uniqlo heattec or M&S heatgen tops under sweaters or a fleece most of the winter.
The weather was odd today- snowy and cold on wakings but a change to warmer rain by mid morning - so that it felt warmer out than in! Its now warm inside too.

To stay warm, I’d recommend layering up with the essentials: a thermal base layer, a cozy sweater, and a winter coat. Add a scarf, gloves, and a beanie to protect the extremities, and don’t forget thick socks and insulated boots to keep your feet warm.

TU thermals are pretty good too. I pick them up in the sale for next year. Now I have too many, but the were a bargain. 🤣

I have layers and layers. Problem is it takes ages to get dressed in the morning and going to the loo needs lots of preparation.

I'm so sorry for those of you struggling in this cold weather but I'm sure you're doing all you possibly can to stay warm. I have the opposite problem, I don't cope with heat very well at all and have been known to keel over with heat exhaustion (in Edinburgh no less!) and also suffer from horrible, itchy skin condition called PLE if I don't use sunblock. The flip side is I don't seem to feel the cold as much as others, seldom wear a jacket and gloves and absolutely never wear socks. Today I've been wearing bra, pants and a short sleeved Next Jersey swing dress. My trusty go with anything greige cardi was knocking about somewhere in case I needed it but no tights (work of the devil!) socks or slippers. I know I'm odd.....story of my life!

Margiknot Mon 06-Jan-25 10:56:15

Marydoll- I too rate Tu thermals and have collected (too) many over the years- they last for ever!

mabon1 Mon 06-Jan-25 12:24:45

I wear a thermal vest and thermal leggings with a cashmere scarf around my neck and shoulders. When I go out walking, I wear sheepskin-lined leather boots, sheepskin gloves, a woollen bobble hat, and a long hooded thick fleece-lined coat. Boots No 7 future renew Damage Protection Defence Shield on my face and neck is a must-wear in all weathers.

BlueBelle Mon 06-Jan-25 12:55:15

Well I don’t have any central heating so welcome to my world 🤣🤣🤣

Nonnadiana Mon 06-Jan-25 13:35:34

My heating broke down on Friday and am waiting for engineer to come tomorrow(possibly today) l have an electric bar fire and oil filled radiators dotted about the house. It’s not the same as central heating which I keep at 21 when we are at 0degrees. Needless to say I have now caught a cold even though I stay wrapped up in layers wearing furry boots in house and covered with heated throw. Bathroom is freezing and I pity all those poor families who had outside toilets in the past!

gran5up Mon 06-Jan-25 14:21:15

GS1 was my lodger for a while so I have a wardrobe full of large warm clothes, am at present in a moss green fleecy jacket looking like a fuzzy olive

We live in north east Scotland where the temperature was -8° at the weekend. I have to say that it’s the first time I can remember wearing two vests before putting on any outer layer. We’re used to the cold and everything that comes with it and we dress accordingly. Our thermostat was turned up to 21° yesterday (previously 20°) and will stay there till we get a milder spell. The heating in our living area/hall/bathroom comes on around 0700 and stays on till around 2200. Our fuel bill is currently around £233/month and if we need to pay more then we’ll just have to at the end of the bill period. We are certainly NOT ridiculously well off but, equally, we’re not going to be miserable for a large part of the year! Please keep warm and safe and look out for each other.
