I am currently wearing a pair of thick thermal tights under a pair of jogging trousers, a long sleeved thermal underlayer, fleece and padded jacket. Am I out and about in the snow...about 3" deep ....No I am sat huddled over the gas fire!!! Mr H is similarly dressed, apart from the tights, and wearing a wooly hat as he is follicly challenged smile. Hope you are all keeping warm!!

Two thermal vests together - one long sleeved, woolley jumper and hoodie by day, thermals under fleece pjs at night. When sitting I have a lovely sherpa lined blanket and I've ordered some touch screen gloves as my hands are freezing and finger tips cracking, despite applying hand cream frequently.

M&S mega thermals, leggings and long sleeved top. They are wonderful and I'm living in them at the moment.

Poundstretcher currently have oversized hoodies for 15 pound.
Dark blue or light pink.

Thermal leggings. I get them from Mountain Warehouse. Recently I got fleeced, thermal-type leggings from Primark and they are fantastic.

BlueBelle oh how I can empathise with you. Since our boiler broke down I realise there is a world of difference between choosing not to turn the CH on and not having that option at all. And I am from one of those families who had no inside toilet Nonnadiana, plus had a flight of icy concrete stairs to negotiate en route!! Have obviously got soft in my old age.
I now have an interesting mental image of our various gransnet members, from those floating elegantly in their silk undies and cashmere lounge wear to those waddling about resplendid in their numerous , in my case mismatched, layers. I really must pull my socks up....no pun intended. I will be researching the intriguing oodie and purchasing more mulled wine

Dh has heart problems so we have to keep our house - or at any rate the rooms we use - warm. Our thermostat is set at 21 and the heating is on from 7.30 am to 10 pm. DH says he has no worries about using the kids' inheritance to pay for it!

Last autumn we took the plunge and had our windows and external doors replaced with modern double glazing, and it's certainly made a difference.

We live in north east Scotland where the temperature was -8° at the weekend. I have to say that it’s the first time I can remember wearing two vests before putting on any outer layer. We’re used to the cold and everything that comes with it and we dress accordingly. Our thermostat was turned up to 21° yesterday (previously 20°) and will stay there till we get a milder spell. The heating in our living area/hall/bathroom comes on around 0700 and stays on till around 2200. Our fuel bill is currently around £233/month and if we need to pay more then we’ll just have to at the end of the bill period. We are certainly NOT ridiculously well off but, equally, we’re not going to be miserable for a large part of the year! Please keep warm and safe and look out for each other.

GS1 was my lodger for a while so I have a wardrobe full of large warm clothes, am at present in a moss green fleecy jacket looking like a fuzzy olive

Nonnadiana Mon 06-Jan-25 13:35:34

My heating broke down on Friday and am waiting for engineer to come tomorrow(possibly today) l have an electric bar fire and oil filled radiators dotted about the house. It’s not the same as central heating which I keep at 21 when we are at 0degrees. Needless to say I have now caught a cold even though I stay wrapped up in layers wearing furry boots in house and covered with heated throw. Bathroom is freezing and I pity all those poor families who had outside toilets in the past!

BlueBelle Mon 06-Jan-25 12:55:15

Well I don’t have any central heating so welcome to my world 🤣🤣🤣

Marydoll- I too rate Tu thermals and have collected (too) many over the years- they last for ever!

I'm so sorry for those of you struggling in this cold weather but I'm sure you're doing all you possibly can to stay warm. I have the opposite problem, I don't cope with heat very well at all and have been known to keel over with heat exhaustion (in Edinburgh no less!) and also suffer from horrible, itchy skin condition called PLE if I don't use sunblock. The flip side is I don't seem to feel the cold as much as others, seldom wear a jacket and gloves and absolutely never wear socks. Today I've been wearing bra, pants and a short sleeved Next Jersey swing dress. My trusty go with anything greige cardi was knocking about somewhere in case I needed it but no tights (work of the devil!) socks or slippers. I know I'm odd.....story of my life!

Jackiest Sun 05-Jan-25 21:27:34

I have layers and layers. Problem is it takes ages to get dressed in the morning and going to the loo needs lots of preparation.

Marydoll Sun 05-Jan-25 20:35:57

Margiknot

I live in Uniqlo heattec or M&S heatgen tops under sweaters or a fleece most of the winter.
The weather was odd today- snowy and cold on wakings but a change to warmer rain by mid morning - so that it felt warmer out than in! Its now warm inside too.

TU thermals are pretty good too. I pick them up in the sale for next year. Now I have too many, but the were a bargain. 🤣

Devine05 Sun 05-Jan-25 20:00:11

To stay warm, I’d recommend layering up with the essentials: a thermal base layer, a cozy sweater, and a winter coat. Add a scarf, gloves, and a beanie to protect the extremities, and don’t forget thick socks and insulated boots to keep your feet warm.

whywhywhy

I feel so sorry for the homeless.

whywhywhy, thank you for putting our silly twittering into perspective.
It's a big problem with an array of complicated causes. I'm sure many of us donate to help homelessness regularly but it's not enough, is it? 😒

TillyTrotter Sun 05-Jan-25 19:32:18

My DH keeps saying “it’s too hot in here” as they do.

TillyTrotter Sun 05-Jan-25 19:31:39

My internal thermostat is out of kilter as I have been unwell since 29 Dec.
I’m indoors, heating on and wearing saggy loungewear - joggers and hoodie (like PJ’s).
I am warm and comfortable but not fit to open the door to anyone.
Needs must for now.
