I smiled when I came across this great word today, which was described as meaning “someone who stubbornly sticks to their guns despite being incorrect”.
I think we might all know a mumpsimus or maybe several mumpsimuses.
Have we GN’ers any more fabulous words?

I love words. When I read the newspapers in bed every morning on my iPad I keep my mobile nearby so I can look up the meaning of words I've not come across before. Fascinating.
We still say Turra a bit (you have to add a Brummie accent) - see you later.

Just seen a brilliant word on FB
Morganmuffel.
It means someone who is grumpy in the morning..
I love it.

We always use dumpsy for the time of the day when it is just starting to get dark.
Another one is brimble when it's a bit chilly.

Face was often called a fizzogg, and I still say somethings all of a huh, or skew whiff.
Plimsolls known as Daps in our part of Somerset.

Fiddledydidlebugs my late husband used to say this if there was a minor catastrophe. I find myself saying it too. It sounds better than a real swear word. grin

Another malarkey lover here - I’m currently sorting this car insurance malarkey!

Isn’t gamp from Mrs Gamp (Dickens) and is an old English word for umbrella?

I knew skew-wiff - I’m in the NE where lots of home weaving took place.
