Good morning everyone, hope you are all keeping cosy and well. I arose to minus 7 degrees this morning. Sat with a big blanket around me and heating turned up to 18 degrees. God help those in winter war-torn countries where there is no power. I despair for them. I despair for the planet too!

My plan for today is some shopping once I've defrosted the car, cooking some chicken supreme for our main meal and pestering the doctors' surgery for some antibiotics as I 've had this cough since 22nd November. I've had multiple lung infections this year. Stay safe everyone.

Shelflife if you are reading I have sent you a PM.x

Good morning,
Freezing again today. Now showing -1 degrees but it was -3 degrees at 9 am. Shan’t be venturing far today I don’t think (no plans to anyway). DH did the SM shop whilst I did my exercise class, so ☕️ time now. Got plenty of indoor jobs to keep me busy today.
Had a good shopping day outing yesterday and got a new longer length coat (to cover my knees) as my knees have really felt these cold, damp spells we’ve had, which in turn has made the rest of me feel cold. We’ll probably get a heatwave now 😂.
Take care if out and about.

Hairdresser has been and done an excellent job so coffee and Gransnet and then out to lunch. What a nice day! Bitterly cold but very sunny so the garden is sparkling as the sun moves round.

Best read what the earlier risers have said, so hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning everyone from Inverness where we’ve had another load of snow overnight and it’s feeling very cold
Pleased you had such a good day yesterday Blue and Rosies 😀
DD2 and family stayed over last night, they’ve just all left for school now, a lot of the schools are closed but theirs is opening an hour later. A busy day ahead for me, I’m meeting a friend for coffee this afternoon and then we’re off out to the theatre this evening to the RSNO Vieneese Gala so looking forward to that
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 09-Jan-25 09:37:24

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where we have snow again, more than we had on Tuesday too. Brr! I had my first shingles jab yesterday and I’m aching from head to toe. We walked through the park to the surgery very gingerly. We looked like penguins, our arms out for balance. I had my manicure and decided to have them snipped really short.

I’m so glad we have no need to go anywhere at all today. Keeping warm, watching Netflix and reading will be the order of the day!

Good morning Mick and all GN's from a flipping freezing north riding of yorkshire. I was awake at about 5 am and got up about 5.30am put dressing gown on with jacket on top and wrapped round with a fleece, but still very cold!! Just been cheered now though as they played Roses from the South by Strauss. Back wouldnt let me physically dance around but in my mind I was floating round in a viennese walkz!! So life improves at long long last. I actually went to play whist last night at a little village. Cold journey and much scraping the windows but got there and it was lovely. I won 6 free range eggs, but it was the pleasure of seeing everyone, people kindly asking how I was doing, and taking the mickey, as in my first hand I wiped the board with them getting 10 tricks, to which was added from my opposition, " Well ay, we've missed you, but not that much if you are coming back to all the tricks lass" . It was bitterly cold driving there but the hall looked splendid as they have just sanded it all down and had someone in to polish it all up I really enjoyed being back in the swing, and it was also improved by the usual tea or coffee and a biscuit, by glasses of sherry handed out and then the yorkshire way of a slice of christmas cake with a piece of cheese) (more cheese Grommit?! the old saying was Fruit cake without the cheese, is like a kiss without the squeeze!! I kidded them by saying was this what they got up to when I wasnt around? but it was just a rather nice Happy New Years , first game of the year. Bitterly cold when we left and quite a job cleaning the windscreen but got home ok and went in and glad to get my slippers on etc until I went through to my bedroom and realized that I hadnt remade the bed and the sheets would still be on the line , so had to do a hasty remaking bed, and then crunched my way up to the washing lines to rescue my sheets which one or two were ok but the duvet cover was frozen rigid to the line, Today have a meeting to go to , so need to get myself organised and check out things here and make a small shopping list. Looks lovely outside with the sun glinting on the snow but treachorous to be on the streets. Still am cheered up by every little thing that shows me I am back here again. Found my hairbrush - another good thing found. I think I will have time to sort through all the ironing to be a warm job to come home to later. No sign of any warming of the weather, no wind and just still and very cold by the looks of things. Have another sorting out job to do this pm , as I have changed some passwords and then cant remember the new one and have , so have got myself a little book, will check through all the people I can and bring them up to date,Well by the looks of the weather the ironing is going to get precedence as i will do the job and warm me at the same
Harrigran, if I can do a bit of advertising, our lovely Swaledale festival is on last week in may first week in june, all up and down swaledale and wensleydale and there are walks and concerts and poetry and all sort of things held then because our lovely hay meadow are full of lovely flowers and you can wal oime. Have a good day everyone and all the best , and keep safe and warm

Good morning from a sunny W Kent
Busy day yesterday with seeing a DF and afternoon at Bluewater where I was quite restrained I thought
Today DH has a dental appointment so I shall zip through the ironing and catch up with some TV. The gardener should also arrive
Best wishes to all

Good morning everyone from a bright cold morning in Northampton; doesn't look as much frost as yesterday.

A bitterly cold day.yesterday, not conducive to waiting around for buses, but well worth it as I had a lovely day in Milton Keynes with RosiesMaw. We met for coffee, then did a bit of shopping which became lunch and wine 🍷! And talked non-stop..... Plans are afoot to meet again.

Sainsbury's delivery this morning, then staying in the warm for the rest of the day. Shall change the bedding and have a tidy round upstairs, then carry on with my book club read after lunch.

Wrap up well if out and about today and take care.

hollysteers Thu 09-Jan-25 08:33:39

Good morning from a 0°C degree northwest coast.
Out yesterday to lunchtime recital in church muffled up in heaviest winter coat, hat, big fur collar and leather gloves, but my hands were still cold..l

The programme was a tad heavy for a lunchtime recital (it’s not the Wigmore Hall) and I met a couple of friends from the art group who agreed on that score. Bumped into another friend not seen in ages who suggested going for a coffee, but I felt cold and just wanted to go home. Most unlike me.

Quiet day, will have a warble and I have nearly finished my sort out of two generations of Christmas decs. Will enjoy cutting labels out of my Christmas cards.

A nice holiday to look forward to Bonnybanko👍
Thoughts to all🌺

NanKate Thu 09-Jan-25 08:31:25

Marydoll minus 7 degrees sounds like the Artic to me ❄️.

Hope your cold doesn’t develop.

Taichinan Thu 09-Jan-25 08:29:34

Good morning everyone. A balmy 1° on the Angus coast where a day of sunny intervals is forecast. We've been so fortunate here so far
As a family we're having a rollercoaster start to 2025. First of all was my grandson's diagnosis of Leukaemia, and now the fires in LA. My great-niece and her family had only just returned to their LA home after their Christmas break when the fires broke out. All is well with them so far, although some of their friends have been evacuated and of course all the schools are closed. It must be so frightening for them.
Back to tai chi classes today. I sat down to do the paperwork yesterday but I was still so tired after my jaunt to Edinburgh that my brain couldn't cope! I hope it's not a permanent loss of marbles! We shall find out.
Have a cosy and safe day today x

NanKate Thu 09-Jan-25 08:28:54

Good morning Mick and All from a very cold South Bucks. It’s about 1 degree, which to our friends in the North might appear quite balmy. I have become a Southern Softie.

I will attempt to sort my mounting pile of paperwork. It’s too easy to ignore it. 😏

ginny Thu 09-Jan-25 08:28:47

Good morning everyone.
Not too frosty this morning here but -2 outside.
This morning, cakes to bake and the ironing I couldn’t be bothered to do yesterday .
Sewing group this afternoon if the bridge isn’t closed and baby sitting this evening .
Have a good day.

Marydoll Thu 09-Jan-25 08:28:01

Good morning all from a chilly Glasgow, its -7°C here, I knew as soon as I woke up, my chest is sore. My nose is streaming too. How can u I have a cold, when I have not been anywhere!!

Baubles, what a disappointment for you.

Susan, Madeleine has posted on another thread, nothing seems to be amiss. I wondered why you were asking.

We were planning to visit Babydoll today, after picking up my prescriptions, but she is going out with her other gran and DIL. 😪
Instead, I shall drop some bags off at the charity shop. DH was complaining about the number of coats I have and for once he is correct. Someone will get the benefit of them.
I don't think I will be out for long, far too cold for my chest.

Wishing you all a pleasant day and stay safe.

Annypop Thu 09-Jan-25 08:23:08

Good morning from an icy, cold County Durham.

Yesterday I did get out for a short, wintry walk along a country track. It wasn't too bad, just had to resort to walking along grassy, snowy edges at times to avoid the ice. Being outside in the cold, wrapped up warm, really helps me enjoy more of the day rather than ending up falling asleep on the sofa. It was so quiet, not another soul in sight.

Instead of dressmaking I thought I would explore my wool stash again. I came up with the idea of a Spring wreath for the door. It will be interesting to see if it turns out as I imagine.

We're popping into the city today, DH has an eye appointment. We'll probably have a wander, then lunch, maybe at the Cathedral where we can sample their refurbished cafe.

Wishing all a peaceful day.

Liberty Thu 09-Jan-25 08:21:52

Good morning from Suffolk where there appears to be less frosty than yesterday and no snow.

I’m meeting a friend for coffee and then lunch in a nearby town so I’m hoping there is no ice on the lanes to the main road. I haven’t seen her since before Christmas so we’ll chat for hours including many laughs. As I grow older,I think I value my friends even more than years ago.

Hope today is a good one for all.
