Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s -11deg 🥶 still lots of deep snow on the ground and no sign of a thaw. I’ve not known it to be this cold for a good few years
I’m not complaining though as luckily we’re off on the train today down to Glasgow and then an early flight to Spain tomorrow morning for some much warmer weather

I don’t know how you managed to escape the snow grandmabatty we’ve probably got your share here ⛄️

Gorgeous pictures Ash and Grammaretto thanks for sharing
I hope you can persuade your DH to see the doctor Roses, it is worrying

Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Good morning . Blooming cold and frosty,-5 here inn. Bucks
Had a surprise visit from DD1 yesterday afternoon. We hadn’t seen her since Christmas due to illness. She is still left with ‘the cough’. Lovely to have a good chat.

We have a few food items to purchase
this morning and then some food prep for a neighbourhood get together this evening. There will be about 20 of us all bringing a plate of something and some drink. So, not too much work for anyone.

Healing thoughts for poorlies and a good day for all.

Good morning from the frostiest day yet in Suffolk. The sun will,no doubt, melt much of it but ,like yesterday, patches will remain where the sun doesn’t reach.

My hairdresser makes the most delicious mince pies and all her clients get a little parcel of them at their appointments in December. I last saw her at the end of November and she told me to pop in later and let her know in advance to collect mine. I didn’t and I was presented with a box of half a dozen at my appt yesterday. Her pastry as DHsays is the best ever. How thoughtful of her.

We were due to see DS and tribe this weekend but DGD3 has tonsillitis so they are staying at home. Tonsillitis seems to affect teenagers in our family. First DD1 from the age of about 14 and now DGC in 2 families.

Hope all keep safe and warm today.

Morning Mick, morning All from a chilly corner of Somerset. I’m told zero degrees outside and there will be a car to scrape later

We’re wandering off when the streets are aired as my Mum used to say. A couple motorways to an Outlet before a catch-up with our older son. Much as we love our granddaughters and will miss (and worry about!) one when she’s off travelling in two months it’s always good to be able to chat with him when he’s on his own.

Stay warm everyone, have the best day you can.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 11-Jan-25 07:54:34

Morning everyone from a frosty and rather chilly S E Essex, currently-4°

Need to do a quick local shop, feed the washing machine then hunker down with my kindle.

We have The Imp for a couple of hours this evening, he is a good boy without his brother to argue with 😹

Keep warm folks 🙋‍♀️

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. It’s -5 outside and quite misty. The moon was very bright during the night and it was very clear.
I had my hair done yesterday for the first time since before my operation. It was good to see my hairdresser again, I’ve known her since she was a little girl & she’s in her forties now! I’m pleased with my hair, but will definitely need a hat if I venture out!
Nothing planned for today, hope that DD2 will call in and help me change the bedclothes. If the frost clears I may go for a walk later.
Take care everyone and have the best day possible.

Good morning all. The temperature in North Leicestershire is -6°.

We are off to John Lewis today. We have an assorted list - bras, a frying pan, tea plates and cushions for the kitchen chairs.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Good Morning Mick and everyone from a still very frozen Carlisle. However, it's a tad warmer, -5°C, a whole degree better than yesterday. It's due to thaw out shortly but I suspect higher temperatures will bring cloud and damp and I will soon be moaning about the lack of sun!

Yesterday was another day of pootling about and staying in. At least my backlog of books is getting read and I am on top of my admin. Bird wars in the garden are amusing...I have a bully blackbird who lives over the fence and I put out mealworms for him and the robin. He's a vigorous defender of his patch and the poor robin and others don't get much of a look in. He's taken to sitting on the fence at dawn waiting for me, then he's straight down and stuffing himself. Yesterday afternoon I popped out into the garden briefly and he thought I'd topped his feed up. Was he cross when he saw I hadn't...he sat on the fence staring at me through the kitchen window and flicking his tail up and down. He got his top up!

I have to go out shortly so that will mean de-icing the car. I'm only going as far as Sainsbury's, I've postponed a trip into the country not wanting to risk slippy roads.

Do have the best possible day everyone.

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from a very cold South Yorkshire - minus five outside and it was 11 inside this morning which is unusually low. The boiler is working it’s socks off at the moment. I was nursing a cold yesterday so I took a glass of sloe gin to bed with me last night and I feel much better this morning (any excuse!😁).
I had a trip to Aldi yesterday to top up the larder and they had run out of digestive biscuits, so I will pop down to Morrisons for some. I have two in the morning with my first coffee of the day - part of my daily ritual. Not sure what else is on the cards today but whatever it is, it won’t be taking place outside!
Lovely photos this morning Ash. Those darmoor ponies certainly need to be hardy!
Have the best day you can, folks.

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 11-Jan-25 07:31:10

Morning all from West Oxfordshire. It’s -5 and there’s a heavy frost.

Elder son, his partner and our granddaughter are arriving for the weekend later. We haven’t seen them since the weekend before Christmas. It will be good to hear about their skiing adventures.

Have a good day everyone, and keep warm.

karmalady Sat 11-Jan-25 07:29:10

Good morning from s somerset, a bit of sun today and a tad warmer but still an easterly cold breeze

I will be glad to get back to my normal walk today and will be sorting some stuff to take to my plot tomorrow

A bit of housework is on the cards today, nothing much, a bit on a regular basis suits my lifestyle. I prepped my stove the other day and brought fuel indoors so am ready for the next cold spell or for a power blackout.

My car insurance quote came yesterday, cheaper than last year. I paid it and felt uplifted all day, I was expecting it to have gone up. Same company

I intend to be busy until noon and will then knit, I want to get on with an especially warm hat for a dd

Have a good day

Grandmabatty Sat 11-Jan-25 07:08:57

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently -2° and frosty. There's a little fog too. Ash and Grammaretto lovely photos but I'm so glad I escaped any snow!
Yesterday was another quiet day. A trip to Aldi and some housework was all I achieved. My aunt messaged me to tell me it was 23° in Spain and they had lunch on their balcony. Brook safe journey to a warmer place.
Today I'm meeting a friend and her daughter for breakfast at the local garden centre. I intend to buy a pot of bulbs to give to another friend tomorrow. Later I'm looking after the boys while dd and Dsil go to get dds new car. I'll have stovies for dinner. I made enough yesterday for today too. Have a good day all.

Good morning everyone from another frosty day in Northampton, -5° outside, but warm here inside as I keep the heating on overnight at +20°!

Had a full day yesterday as I did three ballet and tap classes in the morning, then hopped on the bus to our little retail park. Returned some trousers to Sainsbury's - even the short ones I ordered were too long for me!
Did my top-up shop in Sainsbury's and M&S Food, then had coffee and a bun in their cafe. Wandered around Next to waste some time before going for my bus and ended up with a new handbag!
Was home at 4 and had just put all my shopping away when the doorbell rang and it was a neighbour wanting a chat and to talk about her DH who is in the early stages of dementia. The poor man knows it as well, his memory is going and he realises this. Troubles shared over a 🍷, and she is coming for coffee one morning next week.

A morning of pottering, a late brunch then I am meeting friends at the cinema this afternoon to see Maria, a film about Maria Callas, which I am looking forward to. Apparently Angelina Jolie is very good in the lead role.

As yesterday, wrap up warm and take care if out and about today.

Grammaretto Sat 11-Jan-25 06:48:20

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. -3° and no sign of a thaw.

I made it out to the hairdresser yesterday on my 2 sticks, very carefully.
I'm going to try the community café today and tonight the premiere of a local movie, partly shot in my house and garden last Spring!

Stunning photos Ash
Mine shows my raised bed and the glistening snow in the sunshine.

I hope the poorly ones are on the mend.
Have a really good day everyone.

mum2three Sat 11-Jan-25 06:41:52

Good morning from Lancashire. Hopefully, the weather forecast is correct and this will be the final freezing day, at least until the next cold spell. I expect Monday morning will see a flood of people rushing into town to catch up on everything.

Ashcombe Sat 11-Jan-25 06:20:26

Good morning from a cold and cloudy Sarthe.

The photos were taken on Dartmoor a couple of days by someone on Facebook. Parts of Devon have had snow but not much in Torbay itself.

Off to Bonnétable for a mooch round Super U and Lidl later, if my knee permits!

Happy weekend, everyone! 🦩🥰🦩💐🦩

Bellasnana Sat 11-Jan-25 06:15:52

Good morning from Malta where it is still warm but very windy. I hope it will die down so I can get out without being blown away.

Had a lovely evening with the boys. I got there in time to give them their bath and we spent a happy time until bedtime when they both went to sleep as soon as their heads touched the pillow.

I’m looking forward to the next couple of weeks as the tennis season starts tomorrow with the Australian Open so I will be up at silly o’clock to watch.

Wishing everyone a good day and a happy weekend.☀️

HelterSkelter1 Sat 11-Jan-25 06:09:08

Good morning from a very cold N Surrey. I can vouch for the freezing winds from the Urals grandMattie having spent my childhood in Ramsgate and having relations living in Sandwich and Deal.

I get out for a walk every day and I think a late afternoon walk in this cold weather is helping me sleep longer at night. Touch wood I havent woken at 2.30 since this cold snap. And the sunsets have been stunning with such a bright moon and Venus sparkling away. Another bright star must be Jupiter. Hopefully a sunny day today. Sunshine and a blue sky does lift the spirits. Walk with care those out and about on slippy paths.

RosesandLilac Sat 11-Jan-25 06:04:43

Good morning, another very icy morning here in south Glos although thankfully the snow and ice did largely thaw yesterday. I suspect it’s another very slippery dog walk first thing.
A quiet day ahead, suits me! I will walk the dog first thing, DH seems to have stopped doing any of her walks, his behaviour is very odd at the moment but he won’t see the doctor and if he does he won’t tell them anything about his strange behaviour at times 🤷🏼‍♀️ It’s disconcerting and exasperating!
I did write to the doctor a couple of years ago with my concerns but nothing happened.
We had a load of logs delivered for the wood burner yesterday so we’ll set up for another 6 weeks or so!
I hope you have a peaceful weekend 🌹

Pantglas2 Sat 11-Jan-25 05:47:12

Good morning Mick from a cold, dark and dry North Wales where I’m about to brew the cup that cheers ☕️

A trot to fetch a newspaper later then some more knitting 🧶 as this cardigan is cheering me up no end with its 🌈 of colours - just the ticket in dull January. Not sure I’ll ever progress to the 🧦 knitting grade on yesterday’s thread…marvellous!

Hope all in the sick bay are better soon and those off on jollies have decent weather and a great time 🤗

grandMattie Sat 11-Jan-25 05:42:28

Good morning from an icy Bristol. At least we don’t get the piercing wind from the Urals that we’d get in E. Kent!
Ash, I’ve got fire envy, we had a wood burner in Sandwich. Here? I’m not even allowed a gas boiler; all electric including rubbish night storage heaters. I’m glad your wood drying didn’t start a conflagration!
It was a chilly 1/2 walk to my Spanish class yesterday, but a good class. Our tutor was kind to us and led us gently back.
In the afternoon, I made biscuits to take to church this morning. Very busy as, once again, I’m both cleaning my bit of the church and serving coffee. I’ll leave early for the cleaning.
I’m making a Waldorf salad and roasting some chicken pieces for the “bring and share” lunch tomorrow. Our curate is being licensed as “assistant priest”.
I hope everyone has a safe weekend. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩
