Have a lovely holiday NannyJan ☀️

Good morning and it’s very frosty and foggy here in Essex.

Another day of hunkering down, reading and eating. Roast ham for dinner . Dd and youngest DGD may come for lunch but they might ‘cry off’, due to the weather. We’ll see.

DS1 and DIL are coming for coffee and a chat .

GG enjoy the Panto . The Palladium show is always excellent. My friends daughter went last week and said how good it was.

Grandmabatty enjoy The Nutcracker, such a lovely ballet. 🩰

Take care ❄️

Good morning from Birmingham Airport. Luckily not so cold this morning. Caught a bus from the Hotel at 7am, no real queues, went through Security fairly quickly. Now sitting having coffee in Wetherspoons.

Hopefully warmer in Gran Canaria.

Wishing you all s peaceful Sunday.

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently -1° and it looks wet. I hope it isn't icy. Grammaretto a restful day for you. Grannygravy enjoy the show.
Yesterday I had a lovely catch up with a good friend and breakfast too. The garden centre restaurant was very busy. Later the boys came round and were delighted to see me as I was delighted to see them. Once mum and dad disappeared to pick up dds new car, they claimed they were hungry. So dinner it was. Dgs1 can eat for Scotland! I don't know where he puts it because he's very skinny. We were practising his Scots poem for Burn's Day later this month. The Rid Caur. It wasn't one I knew. When dd and dsil came back, I duly admired the new car and off they went after lots of cuddles.
Today I'm going to Edinburgh with my culture buddy to see The Nutcracker at the Festival Theatre. It is my favourite winter ballet and I'm looking forward to it immensely. I'm not looking forward to the walk to the station nor the walk at the other end. My friend is very fit and thinks nothing of leaping about despite his age. I am not so fit and my hip is playing up. Oh well, the exercise will be good for me, no doubt. We will have fish and chips on our return to Polmont before he heads home. Have a good day all

Good morning from a -4 W Kent. Not going far today. A chat with DB and a hot lunch. I shall prepare my drawing for art group on Wednesday, Van Gogh is the subject.
Call from DS checking we are alright and to let us know DGS3 is now official with new girlfriend. How strange modern dating arrangements are

Good morning from mid Essex, it’s quite light now, but still -5 degrees outside. It’s misty too, but hopefully that will clear soon. I didn’t fancy going out yesterday even though it was a sunny afternoon. I had a wander down the garden instead, walking on the grass which had thawed in the sun. It all looks very dead and sad, the hellebores are looking very sorry for themselves. I couldn’t see any signs of bulbs coming up yet, but perhaps next week when it’s forecast to be less cold.
I’ll change the bedclothes today, hope one of the DDs will come over to help, otherwise I’ll do it slowly without annoying my hip or my back!
marydoll pleased you’re feeling a little better, helped by your two lovely GDs!
bellasnana what a fright for you, you must have been relieved that you just had to move your car!
grammaretto good you made it to see the film, but please rest your hip today!
Have the best day possible everyone, enjoy the slightly milder weather if you have it! For the rest of us, keep warm!

Good morning all. Temperature has risen to -1 with a cloudy day ahead. The threat of snow did arrive yesterday but a blink and you miss it flurry was fine by me.

Looking forward to spend some time in the garden again today to continue emptying out the contents of our old shed which is falling apart now. The new shed will arrive on Wednesday by a company we have used before. The lovely owner, knowing my situation now has told me to only clear out the light weight things and he will transfer the heavy items. A good opportunity to clear out bits and pieces I no longer have any use for.
I will try to fit in a short walk today too in an attempt to restart a more active out of the house lifestyle since caring for DH.

Have a pleasant day all if possible.

Grammaretto

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. I do believe the snow is melting.

I probably overdid things yesterday, with not enough rest. My operated leg was swollen by the evening.
It was fun though, the premiere of a local film. My house and my wild garden starred and I even saw myself for half a second!
The film is the story of the papermakers of our town which in its day was world renowned for its paper. All gone now.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Is that town Galashiels? My friends live near there.

Good morning from a very cold and still frosty midlands.

Knitting another sweater for DH today. Well, I’ll get a start. Slow roast beef for dinner tonight.

Have a great day. Stay happy!

Ladyleftfieldlover Sun 12-Jan-25 07:51:31

Morning all from a slightly less frosty West Oxfordshire.

Everyone is still in bed although elder son may have popped downstairs early for an online Arabic lesson.

Lunch will be roast chicken with all the traditional trimmings plus Yorkshire puddings! I’ve made a batch of chocolate peppermint ice cream and a chocolate pudding which I’ll reheat and serve with cream.

Have a wonderful Sunday.

Aldom Sun 12-Jan-25 07:46:55

Grammareto good morning. I've just read an interview with the woman who wrote the screen play for the film about paper making in your town. How very interesting it was. Also looked at a serious of early 20th century photos of your town.

Good morning Mick and everyone from dark, damp Carlisle where it was 0°C at 6am. Gently warming up!

Yesterday I made an early trip to Sainsbury's. The car was iced up badly, the worst I've seen it, with even a layer of ice inside the windscreen. I finally made it out on our ungritted estate roads and got back later with a load of fresh fruit and veggies. I don't have another Tesco delivery for another week and I don't like existing on frozen veg for days at a time. Also, Sainsbury's supply other things I need that Tesco don't.
Coffee and a long phone chat with my sister followed. We put the world to rights every week.

Today, I would like to get out for a walk if it's not actually raining, other than that, I plan a bit of baking and reading my book, papers and magazines.

I hope you all have an enjoyable day.

Marydoll Sun 12-Jan-25 07:37:25

Good morning all from Glasgow, where it is 1°C, with no frost.
I have coughed half the night, so at 6am I was downstairs getting two painkillers, a hot water bottle for my hip and a cuppa. Now back in bed and scrolling through GN.

Despite my plans for a quiet day yesterday, it did not go to plan.
I usually get dressed first, before having breakfast, but couldn't be bothered.
Just as I settled myself with the papers, breakfast and Saturday Kitchen, DD and SIL arrived, complete with a box of cakes! They had just ordered a new bathroom and DD was so excited at the prospect of having a bath installed!

Not long after they eventually left, just as I was having lunch, DS2, DIL and a very distressed Babydoll arrived, with more cakes!.
She was fighting so hard not to fall asleep, but hadn't slept all night and was so cross. Poor DS and DIL were exhausted.
What do you do when you need a break, you visit Gran &Papa and let them take over. 🤣
Her daddy was exactly the same, rarely slept, until he started school.
It was a pleasant, if somewhat noisy surprise, for we weren't expecting so see them.
When Baby woke up, she saw me eating the cake, DD had brought me, I must have got about two crumbs of it. No greater love hath a gran than to give up her much anticipated fondant fancy!

My trio of best girls was complete, when we saw Dollie and her parents at the Vigil Mass. She had been stroppy with her parents and spent the whole of Mass snuggled into my fur coat. 🤣

Today, I need to go down to Church and do a bit of catching up with people and some jobs, which haven't been done, due to me going ill.
I hope it is warmer than last night. Despite the heating being on and also the extra wall heaters, it was freezing.

Grammaretto, rest that hip and GG, enjoy your show.

Have a pleasant Sunday, everyone.
I need to raid the freezer for Sunday lunch. We usually have a roast or steak, but I still have no appetite, nor inclination to cook. 🙁

kittylester Sun 12-Jan-25 07:11:22

Good morning all from a still chilly North Leicestershire.

We had an unsuccessful day's shopping yesterday only managing to buy 4 birthday cards and DH's coffee.
So we came home and read the papers.

A quiet day on the cards today. I am looking forward to cooking Sunday lunch in my new cooker. DH is going to put petrol in the car and buy more screen wash.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Jaxjacky Sun 12-Jan-25 06:55:05

Morning, +1 in S Hants, no frost! I’ll get out for a longer walk later without watching for ice.
Yesterday was quiet, immersed in the paper and finally finished sorting old seeds and ordered a few new packets, I love planning the garden.
MrJ will be off watching Finley at football around lunchtime, I’ll make a couple of phone calls that may be long. Meat draw at 5, we’ve brisket of beef for dinner.

Morning all from a frosty S E Essex -4°

I and a group of friends are off to The London Palladium to see the last performance of this season’s pantomime (Robin Hood) should be fun with Julian Clary, Nigel Havers, June McDonald and others. We are having lunch first in an Italian restaurant near Oxford Circus.

I think DH is looking forward to a day of peace and quiet 😹

Keep warm folks 🙋‍♀️

Greyduster Sun 12-Jan-25 06:45:02

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where it is a balmy -2 outside! Should reach 3 degrees today. I actually managed to get out for a walk yesterday, picking my way gingerly along some sections of pavement that were still frozen but largely able to stretch my legs. I called at the supermarket on the way back for digestive biscuits and peanut butter (I know how to live😁!). Today I shall do some laundry. My garden is still covered with a thick layer of frozen snow so it will have to be dried indoors, but I can’t leave it forever. Hopefully next week will see the end of this really cold spell🤞🏻. Roast chicken for dinner.
Have the best day you can folks.

grandMattie Sun 12-Jan-25 06:44:06

Good morning from Bristol. Not looked out.
Uncharacteristically, I’ve only just woken up. I think I sleep a bit better when it’s cold.
Yesterday went well, although fairly busy. I needed a new battery for my watch and dropped it off at our local Timpson. I was charged 10% less because the chap found out I was going to serve coffee in the church!
The coffee morning was well attended. I had cleaned my half of the church first, frozen, with no heating. But I had put on the solitary IR heater…. It helped a little.
The coffee machine has stopped working and making at least 18 mugs in a cafetière is very onerous.
In the afternoon, I made marmalade with the lovely, fat, juicy, new season Seville oranges. They set pretty easily, thankfully.
Today is going to be busy as, no doubt, I shall be helping with serving/cleaning etc., the bring and share lunch after the service. Our curate is being licensed as assistant priest.
I hope everyone is keeping safe and we.. Carpe diem 🦩❤️🦩🦩

Good morning from a cloudy Malta where we expect a high of 16°C and a low of 7°C with thundery showers.

Yesterday I had a shock when the doorbell rang just after 8am (I was still in bed scrolling through the internet) and there stood a policewoman on my doorstep.

All sorts went through my mind in the few seconds it took to open the door, but she was just there to ask me to move my car, which I’d parked near the church at 1a.m.on returning from babysitting. I hadn’t seen a temporary no parking sign but there was a big funeral so I had to quickly don some clothes and shift the car.

This morning I’m meeting my friend for coffee before Mass (hoping the rain holds off), then our weekly chat with my pal in Leicester.

I’ve been up watching tennis since 5am so I expect an afternoon nap might feature in the day 😴

Take care everyone and keep warm. ☀️

Good morning from Cornwall where it's cloudy, mild and still. Finished my denim waistcoat yesterday, spending all day in my pyjamas. A lovely lazing day unusual for me.

This morning I'm off to watch my seven-year-old's football match with my youngest son. Yesterday he found himself on his brother's doorstep delivering an Amazon parcel, quite a coincidence considering the size and scope of our county.

karmalady Sun 12-Jan-25 06:03:35

Good morning from s somerset, more sun today and a tad warmer

My walk yesterday was very cold and I was glad to get back, it was deceptive as the sun was shining. A very beautiful day though and made me think that I want to get into the garden today or in a few days, I have pruning and weeding

Roses, those slow crafts are lovely to work on, mindful time

Today I want to do a bit of pattern altering, I am planning to make two gardening (fisherman) smocks, woman -shaped, for gardening. I have already pulled some lengths of fabric out of my stash. Just the pattern altering today and cutting out tomorrow. I have to go slow as my sewing mojo vanished for winter

Have a good day

RosesandLilac Sun 12-Jan-25 05:50:15

Good morning Michael, an early start to Sunday here too 🙄
It’s actually above freezing here in south Glos for the first time in a week or so! The pavement looks wet, no frost on the car, hooray!
I really don’t like the cold.
Yesterday the dog and I had a lovely early walk, it was thankfully less icy although pockets of snow in places. She charged around shoving her nose into the snow, daft thing!
DH says he’ll walk her this morning, the Coffee Waggon will be back in the village so he’ll be heading there.
A lamb joint for dinner with plenty of vegetables, I’m looking forward to that 😋
More needlework later, I’m doing a sunflower embroidery, hundreds of French knots so it’s a bit slow going but I’m enjoying it.
I hope today goes well for you all 🌹

Ashcombe Sun 12-Jan-25 05:49:00

Good morning from a cold Sarthe.

Yesterday, we enjoyed visiting Super U and Lidl to top up supplies but were glad to be home and light the fire after lunch. I’m enjoying the latest novel from Stephanie Austin whom I know through our theatre company. This is her eighth book to be published in a series of murder mysteries. Death on Dartmoor Edge is its title.
