Good Morning Sunday 12th January 2025

Good Morning from NE Derbyshire. A week of solid snow all around and being at the top of a steep hill down to the village we haven't dared venture out. DH has had to cancel two medical appointments to get his legwound dressed so Nurse Meg has being doing it. Also had to cancel a u3a Committee Meeting and the second appointment to review my new hearing aid at Boots.

We have now run out of cakes/biscuits so decided to make some - only to find my little food processor is broken. Now where is the mixing bowl and spoon?

Steaks for tonight's dinner but out of tomatoes (to grill) and only two baking spuds left. DH's Amazon Fire is in the big car which is totally frozen up so he hasn't been able to do any reading. It means however that we have had a full week to start on the NY resolution to clear the house of junk - but none has been done yet!

Oh, and the Christmas Tree is still sporting all its baubles and lights!

She insisted on turning the mattress, told me there was a pot hole ! English is not her first language!

Good morning Mick and everyone. It is flipping freezing here still. Yesterday afternoon I had to go out , very carefully, and the temperature in thecar said -5 which I could believe. It hasnt improved all today and though we have had no more snow, all that is on the ground is not melting and all roofs still white etc. The paths look lethal so not venturing out at all today. I was awake in quite a bit of pain about 4,30am, stayed in bed for a while but had to get up in the end sat huddled with dressing gown and gilet and blanket round me and write a long list of what I need todo today - well more likely over several days! However it is doing me good to take things slowly, I think that all the recent stress is sort of catching up with me now. Anyway am of course enjoying listening to Desert Island Discs, and Private Passions, to look forward to. Have slowly been through quite a pile of paperwork and restored it to its rightful place.Now for a change from that I wanted to see what you had all been up to, and then I am going to go through a load of books and also collect a few more bits for my grandson, little things I have got him but am going in for efficiency this morning - or rather more like the bag lady! There are bags for Joshua, and a couple of things I put for my son, then books to go through, as now I have my bookcase back treasured books need returning to tha , Other not so treasured books i shall double check I have read them and they will go to the womens group for people to take home. then when I start to get cold it will be time to get the iron out and attack the mountaine of ioning, so hopefully by tonight I shall have a choice of t shirts and jumpers . Keep warm everyone and do take care if you have to go out. I have an early doctors appointment tomorrow and will need to put the alarm on as I need extra time to walk about slowly outside, as no sign of the weather improving.

As an 87 year old I remember watches which you just wound up, batteries were unknown.
For our first Christmas as a married couple I bought my H a watch which didn’t even need winding, it was activated by just the movement of your wrist whilst wearing it.
A very long time ago now.

Good morning all. It's a greyer day today on the Angus coast but the temp is the same as it has been all through this cold spell - +1°. It feels colder somehow though, probably due to the dampness which goes with the clouds.
I think another cup of coffee is in order!
I've already had a couple of visits from L'le Ollie (via WhatsApp 😉) this morning. In the first he had climbed into his toy box, and in the second he was walking towards me the camera. What a blessing WhatsApp is!
In other news - as they say - my great-niece and her family are still in Palm Springs having escaped the Sunset/Hollywood Hills fire. I believe her husband is doing the four hour round trip today to check on things and bring back a few more essentials. So glad their home is still there! It's air quality that's one of the big problems now in their area. I suppose the re-opening of their schools will be the catalyst for bringing them home 🤷
I have read through all the posts before posting myself this morning! (Is that correct grammar? Sounds like I'm in a letterbox somewhere 😂). Anyway, ginny I did wonder what that typo meant - predictive text at its best?
A lovely post FGT. It's lovely to hear of happy outcomes - so encouraging. DGS1 is at the very beginning of his journey and hasn't yet started his treatment but he is being so positive with a firm belief in his oncologist and the fact that his is a 'good' Leukaemia.
Anyway, next WhatsApp has just popped in - not L'le Ollie this time - so I really must go. Have a good day everyone x

I have a Citizens eco now fifteen years old which has never had a battery change - light charges it and I wear it most days. Saved a fortune in batteries so am not sure if this model is still made?

Still bitterly cold here, with a frost. There is still some lying snow about from last week as the temperature has never risen enough to melt it all away. It’s supposed to be milder from Tuesday.
Church shortly and then an indoor day sorting a few things out and then reading, I think.
I will come back to read all the posts later.

Good morning from Dunblane where it wasn't just as cold as it has been (upon awakening this morning at minus 1 degree). Looks like a cloudy day here today and my plan is to think of a way to celebrate our 49th Anniversary of togetherness with my DH tomorrow. It gets more difficult each year to think of something different, especially with health concerns too which has prevented me from organising in advance! Have a good day everyone

I’ve got some fish out of the freezer to have with vegetables and as there is nothing I fancy watching on tv tonight I’ll watch the film Bank of Dave 2.

gM Timpsons wanted to charge me £70 to fit a watch battery - based on the make.
The watch stall in my local indoor market fits the same battery for £3! He also services all the high-end brands (Rolex down) at a fraction of the price a jeweller would charge and he assures me he’s fully trained on those brands. Obviously, those with much higher priced timepieces would probably go back to their place of purchase. I liken it to buying a car - but once the warranty runs out, I’m always back to my local garage, if you see what I mean.

Good morning from a still very frosty NE.
DS and family visited yesterday and was surprised when GD1 got out of the car as she is only one week into the new term at university.
We had a dinner of roast pork and lots of vegetables and then we discussed our summer holiday we have just arranged in Wales.
DS has also sorted a week in Berlin as GD2 is studying German history, DS went there at the same age but the wall was still in place and he had the experience of passing through check point Charlie to East Berlin to visit my BIL's aunt.
SIL coming this afternoon and we will have roast beef and Yorkshire pudding, ideal for a winter's night, just to get a decent red wine out to reach an acceptable temperature.

DD2 is coming over with DGS2, as her DH will be at today’s home game, kick off at 3. Her DH will be well wrapped up, as he’s not one of the ‘half naked in all weathers’ Toon Army!!

I’m definitely feeling a bit below par these days. This lingering cough is a bu**eration as soop would say.

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where it’s sunny but looks frosty out again. We enjoyed the party last night! Left just after 11pm. I blinked away tears when people hugged us, looked amazed to see Himself ‘looking so well, bluddy marvellous - just like his old self - what treatment has he been on?” etc. One partygoer said “we saw him in the square the summer before last and didn’t come over to say hello, he looked so thin and gaunt we didn’t know what to say, so we avoided bumping into you both. We thought the worst.”

Ah. Those were very anxious times. Horrible.

As Professor Mansoor said to us only a few months ago “You will never get fed up of hearing people tell you how well you’re looking”.
So very true.

I’m writing all this not only because I’m happy and delighted but also maybe to give some hope to others who may be ‘lurkers’ - people who read this thread but never comment - and who are possibly enduring their own cancer hell at present.

Anyhoo … another day dawns for us to enjoy. We are picking my stepfather up this afternoon as we are going for Sunday dinner again. He wants a few bits fetching from our larder too. I’m already looking forward to it. I love our No Cook Sundays!

Good morning Mick and all from 2°C Sunnyside northwest coast. The frost has gone and I might have a walk in our sandhills.

Yesterday, just quiet, mending holes in woollen tights, torn pocket linings and underarm linings in three coats. I can sing now, so practised a bit, a little sketching, admin and that was my day. More of the same today.

I’ve started another Francis Brett Young novel, out of fashion now, but a good writer.

Good morning. I’m longing for this cold weather to go away .
We hadn’t seen her a lovely neighbourhood get together last evening. Lots of chat and refreshments.

Today we have youngest DGS for an hour or so. Apparently he would rather play with Nana & Grandad than watch his brother play rugby ( although they are playing an indoor version today).

Son In Law is taking part in a ‘Chilly Willy’ charity motorcycle drive by around lunch time so they and DH will go to watch that. Not my thing and far too cold for me to stand about.

Art and craft this afternoon for me, indoors , warm and snug.

Good morning from anther frosty day in Oxfordshire, it’s dull but at least the fog has cleared.

MizzOops and the dog will be here for roast beef at lunchtime, dog will stay if the bird scarer doesn’t go off. It’s a long length of rope with evenly spaced ‘bangers’ on it, and it’s hanging from a tree in the next field, she is scared every time it goes off, half hourly, let’s hope it’s burnt itself out and isn’t replaced. Hopefully someone has managed to talk to the farmer as it’s too near the bridle path and a neighbours back fence where she has children and animals.

Anyway, let’s hope we all have a good day and can stay warm.

Good morning everyone from a cloudy but still frosty Northampton. Slightly warmer today at 1°C. A day at home in the warm I think.

Really enjoyed the film 'Maria' yesterday, very sad and moving, with the most beautiful music. Angelina Jolie was excellent in the lead.role.

A mid-morning brunch (probably bacon butties), then catch up with the weekend papers and watch some recorded tv programmes this afternoon.

Wrap up warm if out and about today.

Overslept after a very wakeful night so must shift myself as DS and co need to leave in an hour. DS is in the shower after a run, DDiL is walking the dog and DGS is still asleep in a teenage stupor. I have enjoyed tea in bed, a rare luxury, but need to get on with life. Lovely having them here.

Good morning from the frostiest day yet I think. We shall,as yesterday hunker down and enjoy the views of the winter wonderland indoors after the dog walk. We are lucky that we can go directly to the footpaths without having to walk on the icy lanes.

I decided yesterday that I must sort out the store cupboard in the dining room. I made a lentil and vegetable curry for dinner last evening and needed another packet of basmati rice. I dug one out from the back of the very deep cupboard which had a best before date of Nov 2024. The one I was finishing was 2026!

I remembered how on lockdown I delved into the dark recesses of that cupboard and found a pack of 4 tins of tomatoes older than DGD 2 who was 12 at the time. She still remembers how she laughed when I told her.

That is my ‘must do’ job for today. Whatever yours is,if you have one,hope all have a good day.

A long, very enjoyable day yesterday. It was strange seeing frozen snow and white fields as none settled here. A quiet one today, pottering for me and a jigsaw (which may be finished one day) for Mr C.

Good morning from Cambridgeshire fenland where it is ~4 and foggy.

DD2’s is coming around today with the two little ones for roast chicken and it will be a day of staying in the warm building lego and playing the Harry Potter labyrinth game amongst others.

We enjoyed a walk around our little town yesterday, it was very cold but a beautiful blue sky and sunny then spent the afternoon and evening binge watching North Shore on Netflix. Worth a watch John Bradley is lovely!

Good news received yesterday in that our local Council has issued a remedial order to (our very anti social neighbour)to cut back his very large fir tree to a height of 4 metres. This tree is in his garden at the end of ours and it has become a nightmare over the years with falling debris into our BBQ area, its roots pushing up the patio and completely blocks the sun into a large part of our garden. It stands some 11 metres tall currently!! Our neighbour has steadfastly refused to address the issue but the order states he has to cut back to 4 metres within three months and maintain it below 5 metres for the life of the tree. Hopefully it will be addressed before the birds start nesting 🙈 it was our last ditch attempt involving the District Council and they came up trumps being very supportive.
