Morning from Connel where I’ve had a delightful few days with my 16 year old DGS and 13 year old DGD. Daughter and son in law arrived home last night having climbed a mountain during a short break a couple of hours drive away from here. The weather has been very cold but perfect for walking with my ice grippers on. The dog has been happy and joined me for mass online yesterday at my favourite church in Maryhill. He was very attentive.

Unfortunately it’s pouring down now so I may not get a trip into Oban before heading home tomorrow. This isn’t quite so disappointing as it would have been if the wonderful Chocolate Box cafe hadn’t been closed for January!

I think the damp makes you feel colder Grandmabatty, I know what you mean.

I hope everyone has a decent day and that Whiff and others who are struggling with health issues see an improvement.
I’m very impressed with the German system Harrigran, what a huge difference from our mess here in Scotland. My friend who had a stroke last April is really struggling for proper support. Her family are doing their very best but it’s not going to be enough long term.

I’ll try to attach a photo of the view from my daughter’s garden, it’ll be a more uplifting way to end the post.

Good morning from a dull damp Co Armagh
The thaw and the damp are not making my aches and pains any easier ! I had to wear my hand splints last night , it’s dull so have to have the lamps on !
Have as good a day as possible folks

grandMattie Mon 13-Jan-25 10:11:49

Thank you for your kind wishes.
It is my second eye being done, so I’m not worried. Just trying to get everything in order so I can spend the recovery time without worrying l
The first one was done 2 weeks before I moved. Magic results, but extremely inconvenient with the move. I didn’t want to cancel it as I had waited nearly two years for it.

hollysteers Mon 13-Jan-25 10:08:36

Good morning Mick and all from 5°C northwest coast.
It was good to get into the sand dunes at the bottom of the road yesterday. I spent nearly two hours there in the sun. The slacks were frozen and flooded and I couldn’t take my usual route to an old bridge I often walk too. Took a different route. It’s a huge area and I still find new pathways to take.

My DD in the south sent photos of the new chairs I helped to buy for her Christmas present, very smart from IKEA.

Supermarket sweep today and all the best for your op’ GM and get well soon Whiff🌺
.

Good morning all from Severnside where it is sunny.

I’m glad to have got my jobs done yesterday including the ironing some of which has been waiting weeks. Admin done. Craft dies put back into box because they slipped off the table and spilled over the floor. Good job I keep them in individual sealed bags or there would have been much swearing.

Pottering for today.

All the best for your op GM

Have a good day 🌥️

Hello baubles.

Ziplok Mon 13-Jan-25 09:48:32

Good morning,
A grey day here, but the frost is gone (for now). It still feels cold though as there’s a slight breeze taking the edge off things.

Hope you’re on the mend Whiff and soon out of hospital.

Hoping the op goes well tomorrow GM.

Not a lot planned for the day so far other than coffee morning group shortly. I’m sure I’ll find some jobs to be getting on with when I get back, though.

baubles Mon 13-Jan-25 09:40:33

Good morning from damp and mildish South Lanarkshire.

I’m just saying hello as I’m in danger of dropping off this thread if I don’t.

Wishing for a better day for all those who are unwell.

Taichinan Mon 13-Jan-25 09:35:07

Good morning all. 9°C here too Kalu though so far it doesn't feel it!
Hope all goes well with your op tomorrowgrandmattie and that your stay in hospital won't be for too much longer Whiff.
Enjoy your break in the (warm) sun Brook.
Nothing to report from here - just lots of family WhatsApps whizzing back and forwards and a facetime with DGD3. I think she was feeling bored! Nothing new on the LA front as far as my little family unit goes.
Today is a doctor's appointment but nothing else except the mundane household jobs. I'm at my happiest with the mundane!
Have a good day everyone x

Georgesgran Mon 13-Jan-25 09:19:36

Good Morning from Durham. It’s grey and damp here - I think I prefer frosty and dry.
Going with a friend to a different venue for coffee this morning and hoping another will join us - her idea, but not holding my breath.

Madeleine here in the NE, if we have a loo problem like yours, which is wasting water and costing money, Northumbrian Water will visit and fix it free of charge.

Hope you are on the mend Whiff and follow the rules gM after your op - you are such an independent lady, but don’t overdo things.

Best wishes to all. X

GrannySomerset Mon 13-Jan-25 09:18:59

Late to the party again! Hope the result of your op is as magical as my first one was, gMattie, and that you will soon be home, Whiff. No great plans for today apart from some discussion with the gardener about a very overgrown border which needs sorting out when it is a bit warmer.

JudyBloom Mon 13-Jan-25 09:06:34

Good morning everyone, keep warm.

harrigran Mon 13-Jan-25 09:02:23

Good morning from a milder NE ice melted yesterday evening.
Laundry day all the bed and table linen so lots of ironing too.
My sister believes she will be discharged from hospital on Thursday she has been in since 15th December. From what she tells me the social care is very good they have already delivered aids to her apartment and arranged daily personal care. She says that she will be taken to a hospital for her lunch every day so that she can socialise as well as eat. Different system in Germany elderly care has to be paid for in advance and is deducted from wages etc.
Best wishes to poorly people and those having operations.

Jaxjacky Mon 13-Jan-25 09:01:20

Morning, plus 2 now, light frost earlier in S Hants.
Best wishes for tomorrow gMattie, I hope you’re soon home Whiff.
Back to voluntary phone today, hopefully not as busy as last weeks onslaught after our shutdown. I’ll take a walk at some point, quiz tonight.
Our quizmaster is in Glasgow for a few days on business, I’ve asked him to bring a haggis back, after he’s caught it of course.

Good morning all from Glasgow, where it is 11°C. What difference from the -5C°, we had a few days ago.

It sounds as if all the theatregoers had a lovely time yesterday.

Yesterday did not work out to plan, I never made either of the masses. I was working about, when the Deacon came to tell me that the very formidable lady in charge of parish hospitality was looking for me.
Someone had locked the room, where all the provisions are kept. The P.P had given her a bunch of keys to try, but to no avail. She was fit to be tied, because we always have a coffee morning after Mass and also all the the stuff for the former P.P's presentation on Thursday was in the room!

I sent her off to Mass and said I would try all my keys and also all the ones hanging on the key board. None worked. I had spent hours numbering the keyboard and putting tags on all the keys a few months ago. However, the new PP keeps handing out keys to anyone, who asks. There was not a single key for that room on the board.
Eventually, it was decided to get a locksmith, because the lock on the church side door, wouldn't lock either despite me drowning it in WD40.
I suggested that we wait until today, because I eventually got the door to lock, a locksmith would charge double time on a Sunday. Consequently that is my task for today.

Later I was dozing, when I received a call from the tea lady. She had discovered that one of the young mothers, who unknown to anyone had the only key, had locked it. ( it is never locked!) Unfortunately she was visiting family on the East Coast!!! 😡
I had wasted a whole morning and will be requesting the key from her today, she should never have been in possession of it in the first place!

I was humbled by the number of parishioners, who came to speak to me, to tell me they had been concerned that I had gone AWOL. One person in particular hadn't contacted me, when I was ill, which caused me to think I had upset him (but no idea why).
He and his wife came looking for me and he said he had been concerned, but didn't want to bother me, when I was so unwell. 😢 I was so relieved, for he is a good friend. Overthinking is not a good way to spend your time.

Whiff, I wish you a speedy recovery and GM good luck for tomorrow.
Enjoy your break brook.

I really must get moving. I promised to help at a funeral this morning, I am still abed! 😂

ginny Mon 13-Jan-25 08:48:46

Good morning.
A quiet day planned. DH is having coffee with his golf pals as the course is closed.
I’ll start to do some holiday prep and a few house jobs. Then I must sort out a project for next weeks craft club

Best wishes to those in hospital or anticipating op’s. also any who are poorly.
Wishing all a good day with a smile along the way.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 13-Jan-25 08:48:10

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where Alexa tells me it’s 3°C ap present. Somehow it just seems colder as the sun isn’t shining. “Oh what a grey day!” as the late Larry Grayson used to say as his catchphrase. Remember him? Anyway it’s wet and showers are forecast with a high of 6°C later.

I’m accompanying my stepfather to his appointment at the renal unit. It’s an annual MOT for his chronic kidney condition. I will ring for a taxi and pick him up en route. Should be home around 2pm all being well. No other plans for the day. Good.

Kalu Mon 13-Jan-25 08:46:21

Good morning all. We have a balmy 9deg in Glasgow this morning, heavy rain due this afternoon. Fingers crossed the minus conditions are over.

DD1 will be here soon for her after school drop off coffee. No plan for the rest of the day, just going with the flow and see what turns up. Basic housework first then whatever.

Good luck for tomorrow GM
Nice to see you back here Whiff. I hope you won’t be in hospital too much longer and feeling well again.
Those temperatures in Estepona sound so good Brook. Enjoy your holiday there. We holidayed in Mijas in 1980 and enjoyed visiting Estepona, pushing a buggy around the surrounding areas.
Happy birthday to your DD Bellasnanna, I was 20hrs waiting for DD1s arrival, she will be 50 this year!
A busy city A&E was the last department I nursed in Mizuna, never a dull moment and I loved it.

Have the best day possible all

Annypop Mon 13-Jan-25 08:43:15

Good morning from County Durham.

I'm pleased to see all those icy patches on the street are beginning to melt at last.

So proud of GD1 at the weekend. She was awarded her first international gymnastics trophy from her club. This year will be a quieter one for her, training, plus national competitions only, as she needs to be a year older to compete in a higher category alongside the older girls in her trio.

My knitting order finally arrived and I can begin my next project. 18 fluffy snowman hats for Christmas. Lovely to make a start and keep me busy during the remaining long Winter evenings. The end result makes me feel so happy when I see the whole family wearing them together, during one of our family Christmas trips out. Doesn't take much to please me!

School pick up today with another Murder Mystery rehearsal for the younger ones. They have some costumes to try on too. This forthcoming birthday is making the month of February a little more welcoming than I thought it would be.

Get well soon whiff. Sorry to hear you have been so unwell. Good luck with your operation too GM.

Wishing all a peaceful day.

GrannyIvy Mon 13-Jan-25 08:40:51

Good morning from Cambridgeshire where it is 1 degrees today but feels very chilly. .

We are planning a walk at our local NT property this morning. No childcare duties as little one still off school with chicken pox, been quite a nasty episode for him but hopefully back to school on Wednesday.

GM hope cataract op goes well.
Whiff hope you are on the road to recovery.

Wishing a good Monday to all.

Liberty Mon 13-Jan-25 08:33:14

A rather late good morning from a sunny and frost free Suffolk.

I should have been at the dentist for my annual check up at 9am but the appointment was cancelled about a week ago because my dentist, who I have been with ,for 40 years is “extremely busy with treatments”. He sold his practice to the “My dentist” group and now works 3 days a week so I suspect the decision was not his. As far as I can see from the adverts in the waiting room, cosmetic rather than preventative dentistry is favoured.

Off to a friends for a ‘ scratch lunch’ with 5 other friends. Her term not mine as she says to finish off the leftover festive food. She is an excellent cook so whatever she is making will be delicious.

Grannyme6 Mon 13-Jan-25 08:31:12

Good morning, it’s overcast and no frost. A picture from a few days ago when we were in Dubai for a short break. It was 24 deg or so - just lucky to be out there when it was freezing here. Back to reality with a pile of ironing awaiting!
Wishing all GMorningers a good day, and GrandMattie a successful procedure tomorrow.

Gingster Mon 13-Jan-25 08:22:25

Good morning all and hoorah - no frost or ice. Good job as I have a busy day.

This morning is Chimes group. I have renamed us as ‘The Charming Chimers’ as before we were known as the ‘Old Clangers’. Better I think 😅.

Then I’m having lunch with a friend whose Dh has very advanced Parkinsons. I don’t know how she copes as she’s not very good herself. I feel I don’t do enough for her . I must ‘step up’.

Hope all goes well with the cataract op GM.
Whiff get well soon 💐
Enjoy your day in A and E Mizuna - not sure if ‘enjoy’ is the right word but you know what I mean. 👍. I know your extra pair of hands will be gratefully received. .

Take care all ❄️

Oopsadaisy1 Mon 13-Jan-25 08:16:09

Good morning from a much warmer Oxfordshire, although it’s still frosty and very cold, Alexa assures me it’s 0 degrees.

Dog walk later today, we might keep her here tonight as well as MissOops has the workmen in early tomorrow morning.

GM good luck for tomorrow

Whiff hope you get home soon

Have a good day everyone.

luluaugust Mon 13-Jan-25 08:12:03

Good morning from a slightly warmer W Kent.
Cleaner this morning and shopping for a new mattress later.
Good luck gM having just had my first cataract done I can safely say you will spend all day putting drops in!
Good luck for all appointments today
