What do you think of Labour so far?
Yes 14 years of ‘chaos and division’ with the Tories and so 6 months isn’t long by comparison.

But how do you feel they’re doing?
Anyone with voter’s remorse or is it still too early to tell?
Are you optimistic about 4 more years with them or are you disappointed?

Anniebach Wed 15-Jan-25 15:11:50

You are mistaken

Blowing up innocent people is never right.

It's wonderful to look back as some of you do with rose-tinted spectacles.
Some of us knew the reality.

Well my spectacles aren't very rose coloured. Say I did like a drink and occasionally went to an Irish Republican club would this officer have been OK deciding I was an IRA plant? How far would it have gone? Could I have gone to prison? Innocent people did go to prison so I suppose it is a possibility.

I don't know how far it did go, apparently investigations were made but was that me being followed (God they'd have been bored) or look at my family background? I suppose the family Orange Order links would have made it less likely I was an IRA plant but who knows.

^One man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist^

Precisely eazybee.

Or in my case just mistaken identity.

Worrying ‘ if true’? So you don’t know the detail either but are happy to post in defence of someone in despair at the HRA being applied?

Double standards?

We shouldn't forget the innocent people who were locked up as terrorists, some just because they were Irish. I remember it all well as I was working for the police at the time, one officer told my friend he thought I was an IRA plant, he swore he'd seen me in Irish Republican clubs. My friend couldn't stop laughing, I had two young children and was doing a part time degree as well as a fulltime job and I was teetotal and didn't go in local bars let alone Irish Republican Clubs, I'm not sure were I'd have found the time to be honest.

There he was, an anti-terrorist officer prepared to spread that misinformation. I did mention that my granddad and his family would be mighty miffed if they had to attend the next Orange Lodge meeting with an IRA member in the family. I wonder if they'd have got kicked out although to be honest me being locked up was a bigger worry for me.

Human Rights? I don't think terrorists can be called human.

I rest my case.

I don’t think my comment was a ‘cheap dig’.
Starmer is a Human Rights lawyer through and through. I suppose we ought not to expect anything less from him because of that.
However, as our Prime Minister, I expected different.

Compensation for the blood scandal victims perhaps.
The Post Office employees?

Gerry Adam’s?
Get to the back of the queue boy. You (ought to have) a very long wait.

Keep up FGT. Compensation was made to the first blood scandal victims in December, and to PO victims interim compensation can be claimed while the individual compensation is resolved.

Ghandi was a freedom fighter

Beeches Wed 15-Jan-25 12:59:09

FGT source is ALWAYS the Telegraph haha!! Totally deluded but clearly happy to remain ignorant

eazybee Wed 15-Jan-25 12:58:18

At the time of his arrest and trial. mandela was a terrorist.

Barleyfields Wed 15-Jan-25 12:56:45

There’s a queue of others far more deserving of compensation which Labour seems to be slow in paying. Postmasters, recipients of infected blood …

Iam64 Wed 15-Jan-25 12:52:59

I dislike Gerry Adams. I don’t want my money used to compensate him. But a Court considered his appeal and confirmed he was illegally detained twice
So he is entitled to compensation. Starmer is doing as the Court recommended

Barleyfields Wed 15-Jan-25 12:51:44

There’s a fine line between being a freedom fighter and a terrorist. The ANC certainly committed acts of terrorism. He said himself that he was no saint.

Anniebach Wed 15-Jan-25 12:43:17

Mandela was imprisoned as a terrorist

But they are - that is the fearful fact that we all have to live with.

So partly in support of human rights

FGT you have big problems with anyone supporting human rights ?

confused

I support the human rights of people, including children, to be able to go about their business in the UK without fear of being blown up by terrorists.

Allira Wed 15-Jan-25 11:27:50

I don’t know enough about the detail to comment further, but think that using this to make another cheap dig at the government is pretty low

So you don't know but it may seem you are using this to have yet another cheap dig at FriedGreenTomatoes2?

Its worrying if true and needs further investigation.

Compensation for the blood scandal victims perhaps.
The Post Office employees?

Yes, there is a long queue in front of compensation for terrorists.

A very long wait hopefully or maybe he won’t have the brass neck to apply for it.🤬
Another strange move by Starmer.
