Originally I thought he was Corbyn's stooge, then was relieved when he disposed of him, although I thought there would be a hard left-wing coup once he was in power and he would be displaced.

Now it appears he is the hard left coup. The intention to facilitate compensation for the IRA terrorist Gerry Adams is appalling. I remember the time of the Troubles very well, and the Birmingham bombings in particular.

The Guildford bombings were the first here on the mainland. I lived there at the time.

Of he’ll remember, and will remember the enormous relief when the Troubles ended. Many people on both sides made huge concessions in order to allow the agreement to stand, and to save lives, despite the losses they had suffered.

I don’t know how they did it, and have nothing but admiration for them. Wrongs were done by the army, the government of the time, as well as by the IRA and other factions.

Of course wrongful imprisonment is incompatible with human rights laws, and however much people may disagree with Adams’ politics if we start to pick and choose which humans have rights it is a slippery slope.

I don’t know enough about the detail to comment further, but think that using this to make another cheap dig at the government is pretty low. Having said that, Reform are not in favour of the HRA, are they? Terrifying.

Life at the time was not as it seems today looking back from the perspective of peace. It was an horrendous time. Starmer won’t remember the reality of that terrible period in history.

Adams was in the IRA and , like his mentor Corbyn supported Sinn Fein/ IRA or he would have walked away from Corbyn. He didn't .

In what way have the government’s policies affected you, Nan0? It’s good to have someone directly involved to tell us the detail.

Were you planning to sell the farm, or pass it on to family, so you would have to pay tax on anything over the threshold (£4million, if memory serves?) or is there something else they have done that’s getting in the way for you?

My income is my state pension and a small csp pension left to me by my husband who died 35 years ago. I was widowed under 40 with two children and had to go out to work in dead end poorly paid work I am just above the threshold for pension credit. Just who are you to judge me?

That's got nothing to do with judgement I'm asking a question about why it is an issue. Tax thresholds has nothing to do with picking on pensioners does it.

My mother was a widow under 40 with 3 children but I don't know what that has to do with anything. My MIL was a widow with a baby in her 20s. They both paid tax just like everyone else.
