Michelle Obama or her Office have not made any comment at all on why she is not attending.

The quote “Staying true to my values” comes from an interview some years ago.

Nothing she has said or done has “made it about her” other than choosing not to go.

So why did the OP chose to use a quote that does not apply in this instance other than in the OPs mind? Why liken a woman who has made no comment to one who has actively sought to tell all.

I can see no other purpose than to tap into people’s dislike of Meghan Markles attitude and conflate it with Michelle Obama’s decision in order to pass on that dislike. However irrelevant.

Why the OP has chosen to do that only she knows.

So she didn't say "true to my values" about this event, and hasn't even commented except to say she isn't going?

I think when anyone talks about "their truth", we automatically think of Meghan ..... or at least, I certainly do ... and tend to think that the person's "truth" is not true at all (as proven to be the case with many of Meghan's comments.)

So by conflating Michelle with Meghan....

I've seen references to her truth quite often in her speeches and in her book quotes.

I think the clue to the comparison is in the italicised word expectations in the OP. Well, that's how I saw it anyway. In a FLOTUS/Royal role there are, rightly or wrongly, assumptions that a spouse will behave in a particular manner. Michelle = Meghan in this respect. Neither has to, neither chooses to, good for both of them. Colour is irrelevant.

I never usually get involved in arguments about racism on GN, (ever since I was accused of being racist by saying ScoobyDo instead of Omid Scobie!! Stupid made up comment!!). What I was irritated by here today was the insulting tone of shame on you as an insulting remark when we really don't know.

Melania was true to her values by staying in NY when the First Lady was expected to move into the White House. That raised a few eyebrows at the time.

I'm not saying it is racist or racially motivated, one way or the other, because I'm treading carefully, and don't wish to offend, but again, to me, there is only one similarity between the two women.

Bringing someone's race or skin colour into something that has nothing whatsoever to do with the conversation.

I don't think there is a connection between the two Annie but the 'connection' FGT made in her OP is that in her opinion, MO was making it 'all about her', her 'truth' which is what MM does.

I didn't and don't see the comparison/connection having anything to do with colour.
