Meghan Mark II?

“Staying true to my values”.

So says Michelle Obama as she announces she won’t be attending Donald Trump’s inauguration next Monday.

Personally I think there are expectations around her position as former FLOTUS. She ought to attend in my opinion. The voters have made their choice - sorry Michelle. It’s not ‘all about you’. See the bigger picture here. It’s a State occasion, you should be there. “Your truth”? Pah!

Well I will say it, as no-one else seems to have done yet. The “Meghan Mark II” comment means “another uppity Black woman that we disapprove of”. I can’t be bothered to rehash all the incidents of racism against Meghan in the media but will just say shame on you!, FGT2.

👍

Good posts syracute.

And good to hear from you. How are things shaping up in the USA - Trump etc?

Doing the right thing with dignity is much more admirable Casdon, than being petulant because you don’t like or agree with something/someone.

Trump gave Obama’s no dignity. Michelle owes nothing to a convicted felon who is sadly noe President.

This is such an insulting post . There is NO requirement to attend an inauguration by anyone. Trump who instigated the Jan 6 insurrection certainly did not attend with Melania. He most likely still falsely believed he won the election.
No one has been more vilified than the Obama family than Trump has done . He even repeatedly questioned Obama’s birthplace even after having the birth certificate published. Outrageous!

He now with his policies has done more to to damage women and their rights to body autonomy and has brought about book bans with tge support of his followers to become more and more extreme with empowering the ultra right religious conservatives. He is an utter danger to a civilized society.
It is no wonder that Michelle Obama and now Nancy Pelosi are not attending the inauguration. President Obama, President Clinton and President Bush are also not attending the luncheon after . That speaks volumes that even a Republican President will not be attending the luncheon.

Regarding your comment about the RUMOUR about the possibility of a divorce . Well consider the source which, as usual is from tabloid journalism.
So bravo to Michelle and Nancy for standing up to this convicted felon tyrant and pointedly not attending his inauguration !
I really think FGT your title for this post is quite vulgar.
You really ought to broaden your reading sources.

^what support is Michelle supposed to provide ?^

The kind of support between a husband and wife that may not be obvious to folk who expect it to be spelled out.

I suspect that’s part of the reason she isn’t attending. I doubt he would attend either out of choice, but he has to. Her not attending will be something he agrees with because it sends a message. There is more than one way of supporting your husband.

ronib Thu 16-Jan-25 22:43:04

There are different levels of support- for example, accompanying someone to a hospital appointment, dentist or doctor. But I ask again why is Obama in need of support? Is it painful to sit and watch the ceremony - is there a medical condition we don’t know about? Piles for instance?

Surely her husband can give her loyalty and support for her
decision not to attend, marriage is for two not a leader with a
wife in tow

Absolutely.

I don’t suppose Trump will give a toss if Michelle isn’t present. As long as his beloved Musk is there….sorry….Freudian slip…of course I meant Melania 😉

Exactly what support does Obama need to sit and watch the inauguration? Is it relief from boredom or embarrassment that the Republicans won? Is he incontinent or what support is Michelle supposed to provide ?

merlotgran Thu 16-Jan-25 22:18:49

I don’t get why a woman who is ‘a person in her own right’ can’t still support her husband at a major political event.

It won’t make her a lesser woman to show loyalty and support.

Iam64 Thu 16-Jan-25 22:18:00

Well said annie

Anniebach Thu 16-Jan-25 22:13:43

When Michelle was First Lady until 2017 she did all that was expected of her , she is a person in her own right,

Why?
Also “Meghan Mark 11” - exactly what do you mean by that headline? She’s nothing like Meghan in my view. Completely different personalities to my mind.

Presidents Obama, Clinton and Bush have declined their invitations to the inaugural lunch.

Not surprised, Trump only eats hamburgers.

valdali Thu 16-Jan-25 19:19:30

Michelle Obama is my absolute hero.

Her husband has to attend, but IMO she's ansolutely within her rights not to. Some people don't like behaving hypocritically & attendance feels like endorsement.

imaround Thu 16-Jan-25 19:18:16

Absolute truth Iam64.

I just saw that Pelosi isn't going to attend either. Though I don't blame her what with just having a hip replacement.

It is supposed to be 10 degrees F or so as well that day. That alone would be enough to put me off.

Iam64 Thu 16-Jan-25 19:11:31

I think you’ll find outrage directed at women perceived to be left leaning or god forbid a bit feminist. Melania is safe

imaround Thu 16-Jan-25 18:42:16

I also where where the same outrage is towards Melania, who has turned down Dr Jill Bidens invitation to tea. It is protocol and expected for the First Lady to do.

imaround Thu 16-Jan-25 18:30:27

I am still trying to figure out what MM has to do with Michelle Obama?

The only thing they have in common are they are American and black.

Louella12 Thu 16-Jan-25 18:29:04

It just shows how ridiculous politics has become.

Lauding Michelle for not going. Who actually cares? Trump certainly won't.

Young people won't have a clue who she is. It's so petty.

Still not getting the link with Meghan. Apples and oranges springs to mind. Michelle is streets ahead of the duchess.

I lived in USA for a few years. East and West coast. I was always very impressed by how Americans would treat their Presidents. Didn't get the one you voted for? Better luck next time and they'd get on supporting their country

People on social media are so tribal. They're similar to football fans. Slavishly believing MSM and getting whipped up into such a state.

Few years from now, Trump will be gone, a lot of us will have slipped off this mortal coil and future generations won't give a flying fig.

Anniebach Thu 16-Jan-25 18:07:40

The late Queen was head of state, Michelle is her own person,
no duties to carry out, did that as First Lady.

I’m delighted to hear that. Waken up America.
