I thought it looked very inappropriate for a funeral.

Doodledog - spot on imo. I also believe their children get huge pressures. Growing up in the public eye must be very difficult. Some of our so called newspapers are simply cruel

I’m always impressed by people in the public eye who manage to stay together despite the nasty comments and press intrusions into their private lives. It must be very difficult for them, and given that one in three ‘ordinary’ marriages end in divorce it’s a miracle any high profile ones last at all.

I take an interest in both the Obamas and always have as I admire them - not uncritically, but great respect and liking.

I think this thread has gone OTT on something very simple - Michelle Obama decides not to attend the inauguration.

the precedent is absolutely clear -

" that trend broke during the last inauguration, when Trump and former first lady Melania Trump did not attend President Biden’s ceremony". Yes, the ex POTUS himself didn't go, why why should she?.

and the reasons are very clear

On the campaign trail, there was a huge series of very personal and particularly nasty attacks made on her by Trump and it's always been that way.
