Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 6°, grey and damp. GrandMattie that must have given you a fright. Mick all the best for your lazer treatment. Still learning my friend's mum is in her mid nineties and still goes abroad. This year she's off to the Italian lakes.
Yesterday was another fairly quiet day. I did some housework and washing and pottered about generally. I went to Aldi and got food in too. Later, I got a phonecall from dgs1's school. I had offered to help with their library. I was a chartered librarian at one time before I went into teaching . The depute head and I worked together a number of years ago when I was on a secondment, so she was keen to get me involved. I'm going to talk to her next Wednesday. My biggest problem will be not taking on too much. I tend to overcommit!
Today will be another quiet day. I was supposed to be meeting a friend for breakfast but she cancelled as she's unwell. So the day is mine to do with as I please. Haggis, mashed potatoes and mashed turnip for dinner. Have a good day all.

Good morning all from a dull but dry Black country.
A trip to Aldi to top up, friends coming later and we shall go over to the club.
Haven't read through yet I'm up late and my usual Saturday full English is calling.
Hope all goes well Mick.
Best wishes to anyone celebrating and virtual hugs where needed.
Have a good day everyone whatever your plans ☀️.

Good morning from Shropshire.A milder day today.

DH finished decorating the hall, stairs and landing yesterday. It looks really good🌟

Today we are taking DGD out for lunch while H is at a party then both children are coming back for a sleepover.

Brook your holiday sounds perfect. We always used to go away in January as the warm air helped DD’s asthma.DD and I are thinking it would be nice to book for something next January. We have started to plant seeds in DH’s mind but haven’t revealed our plan just yet.

Happy birthday to your DGS kitty. It is ten years since I joined gransnet. How time has flown. The toddlers when I joined becoming teenagers.

Have the best day you can everyone🦩

Nothing planned for today so no rush to get started. I struggle with January but at least we are over half way through it. Must find something useful to do so I foresee some drawer sorting - always needed in this house.

Good Morning from a dull chilly Co Armagh
My eldest granddaughter is 21 today ! It just seem yesterday that she entered the world
On a sadder note , I have the funeral of a young man today , the son of friends , he thought he had overcome cancer ,

Good morning Mick and all from 3°C northwest coast.
Enjoyable art group yesterday and after that I set off in search of the smallest suitcase on wheels I could find and was very lucky in Matalan, reduced too.
I’m off this morning to stay for one night with pianist friend fifty miles away and my usual suitcase is a little large. I might use the new one for my art stuff, as does another member of the group, who gave me the idea.
I’m still not quite 100% after my op’, so anything to make life easier is a bonus,

Pianist friend moved into his new house a while ago and this will be my first visit. It looks nice in photos.
We will meet at the station and have lunch.

All the best for your treatment Mick, you know what to expect, which helps, thoughtful to receive flowers Bonnybanko and thoughts to all🌺

Morning all - not from Ashford in Kent. It from the New Forest where it is dreich, murky and 5C! Today is my 70th birthday. We have dinner á deux planned for this evening and a drive around Lymington and the beach during the day. Two FB messages earlier one from my 93 year old mum and the other from my baby sister (58). I have five other siblings, two children of my own and five grandchildren - none of whom have made any enquiries as to what might be happening today. I have been feeling very down heading towards today. I will persevere with my moods and enjoy the day with DH. . We will end up doing what he wants to do as I don’t have the energy or inclination to suggest anything. He is from the New Forest and we haven’t been here since Covid so a visit to his mum’s grave is a definite. I have been on the verge of tears all week, usually a sign that I am becoming depressed. We met a lovely couple at dinner last night and I became tearful twice during the conversation- not like me at all! Time for the big girl pants!
I will update tomorrow as to the day’s outcome!

Aw happy birthday to your ‘new teens’ grandson kitty! A milestone birthday for him to celebrate. Our Boy Wonder will be 13 in July which means these boys are in the same school year in high school!

Good morning from a sunny NE.
I had a disturbed night, woken at 12.30 am by commotion in the street, when I looked out there were police cars and people raising their voices.
I could not get back to sleep so read my book until 4.30, must have nodded off then.
DS and GD2 are visiting this afternoon so there will be music after dinner.
Thoughts are with people recovering. Have a good day.

A later good morning from a grey and dull Northampton; slept in till nearly 9am this morning!

A gentle morning ahead reading the papers, then an early lunch before heading out to the rugby stadium, which will be very busy as we are playing an Irish team this.afternoon in the European cup; they always bring thousands of supporters with them, so the atmosphere will be great! Guiness sales will be through the roof! Will be meeting up with DD and DS-in-law in our usual seats.
Then home to a.warming hotpot.

Hope your surgery goes well Mick.

Happy birthday Borrheid. Enjoy a lovely day with DH and maybe organise a family get together once you're home to continue the celebrations. Often our DC and GC are so wrapped up and busy in with their own lives they let things slip, especially if they think you are happily getting on with life. Sending thanks

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 18-Jan-25 09:50:21

I posted this earlier … on Saturday 11th in error!

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where Alexa tells me it’s 2°C rising to 3°C later. Brr! It’s dry and not windy though so that’s a bonus. We have no plans until teatime when we will go over to babysit while the parents plan an evening here in Urmston enjoying drinks in a bar then a hot curry. Nice for them and spending time together.

A late Good Morning from a bright, sunny Durham. I wasn’t going to post today, as it’s all a bit mundane, but so what?
I’m going to meet DD2 and DGS2 at a garden centre near his Farm Nursery this afternoon, while his Daddy is at football - 3 home games in a week. DGS2 had his hair cut yesterday, so I shall have to admire that.
DD1’s DH is getting his new car, today, so I’ll pop round in my way home and admire that too!

Arnison parking is ridiculous Anny but it’s where I meet a friend for coffee 2x a week. It’s bedlam at times and often long queues to exit. We always say whoever designed it should be shot!

Good luck with the op, Mick.

Best wishes to all. X

Good morning from an overcast Severnside.

Yesterday after swimming I went and had my haircut. August was the last time it was cut and had got too long for me.

Today I’m going to do some card making. I have a new idea I want to try out.

Happy 70th Birthday Borrheid 🎂🎉🎉 Perhaps your family are doing a surprise visit.

GM I once saw the husband of DH cousin.

Have a good day everyone 💐

Good morning Mick - I hope all goes well with your laser eye treatment - and everyone. It's another Spring-like start on the Angus coast. Long may this last!
I had a good night's sleep last night courtesy of Nytol so am raring to go. Nowhere special, but the house needs a little attention while I have the energy. DGD3 is coming over in Monday and I will be asking her to help me move a couple of bits of furniture while she's here. I have a sudden urge to move the small round dining table from the front sun porch to the garden room at the back where I spend all my time. Unfortunately one of the old original Smiddy doorways is too narrow and too deep to let it through so it has to be carried round outside and in through the patio doors at the back. I could do it by myself just a couple of years ago, but not now. The table I am moving to the front room is narrow enough for the doorways, but very heavy. Her young strength will be very welcome!
Oh for a return of the energy of youth. I remember once, way back in our military days, spending a day swapping the entire contents of our lounge with the entire contents of our dining room. The old dining room was a smaller room to heat! A week or so later I had to repeat the exercise because I'd changed my mind.......... Poor DH never knew what he was coming home to.
I have only just skimmed through the thread, which I will read properly later but I did note Kitty's footballing grandson's 13th - Happy Birthday! And Bonnybanko's flowers - always comforting to know that you're not alone in your grief and remembrance. Have a gentle day Marydoll.
I went out earlier and took the photo of the snowdrops - such beautiful little harbingers of Spring.
