How much would you pay for a handbag?

Your choice- but I truly don't get it.

Are your shoes all comfy, Marydoll, or do you have to break them in?

Marydoll Sun 19-Jan-25 23:58:11

Holland is one of the few European countries, where I have not bought shoes, escaped. 😂

I'm guessing you might have chosen those words deliberately, Marydoll, but you made me laugh!
Shoes and boots ....... My family are dreading having to clear them out, once I pop my clogs! Did you buy them in Holland?

😉

I'd want something blooming fabulous for some of the extortionate prices.
I just find beige and brown handbags don't float my boat at all.

Particularly when a lot of people have them.
May as well wear a school uniform.

Kipling bags always. But only ever in a sale or on offer. So average £30 maybe.

My friend recently celebrated her 50th birthday. She didn't want gifts, she just wanted all friends invited to her party to contribute to this handbag she'd set her heart on.

It was about £1500. Mulberry. I think that's the make.

So she was thrilled and I was happy for her. But it beats me. I have no idea what the appeal is.

There is an outlet shopping centre near us and I have quite a few Radley handbags. Can't remember what I've paid, probably no more than £100

I wouldn't because I keep buying different ones I must have over 20. My weakness is jackets and shoes.

and a lot of them made with cruelly farmed crocodiles, sadly.

BTW I have a vintage real wild crocodile handbag, silk lined, from my grandmother, from the 30s I guess. Wonder how much it is worth. If I can sell it for a good sum, would be happy to donate to the WWF.

As I can no longer wear fancy shoes, I moved on to bags! Mostly cross body, but I do have a Bayswater (GG13?), although I’m rather careful where I take her!

There are some beautiful Bayswater bags around, especially the vintage ones 👍🏻

Good grief. I am not short of a bob or two but could never spend that sort of money on a handbag. I will spend on investment clothes which will still look good in years to come but not on a bag. I guess you’re into designer labels. Apart from Armani, I have never seen the attraction. I prefer understated and timeless.

My handbags are definitely understated and timeless

I do not do bling in any item of jewellery or clothing.

Just been doing a bit of Googling- the most expensive bags are actually so tasteless and blingy- yuk. So glad you have more taste (even if I don't get how anyone could spend more than 100 on a bag.

I am very fond of bags and store my beloved collection of vintage Mulberry bags in a glass fronted unit.

My failing is shoes and boots, but I never pay full price! I used to buy my boots for 40 Euros at the market in Rome. I onve bought a pair for 40Euros, to see them later in a shop window for 200Euros.

I am too ashamed to say, how many pairs I have. My family are dreading having to clear them out, once I pop my clogs!
Unfortunately, as I can no longer walk in many of them, I have had to get rid of so many beautiful ones, bought abroad.

I did go through a bit of a handbag phase, my most prized one being a Mulberry, which cost way too much. Amongst others I've got a Longchamp handbag, several Radleys, a quilted black handbag, with a chain like the classic Chanel but cheaper from Russell and Bromley. Here's the thing though of late, except when we go out to dinner somewhere special, I can't be arsed bothered changing over bags, I'm very wedded to my small, neat. cross the body, slightly larger than a purse, but big enough for phone, cards, lipstick, Airpods and keys bag I've also decided I don't like lugging larger bags around particularly the ones on the shoulder, they don't feel comfortable anymore. My mother's handbags resembled filing cabinets, they had receipts, letters, bank statements. I was well to becoming my mother, the larger my handbag the more I accumulated. Life's too short to be permanently rummaging, I lost sizeable portions of my life trying to find what I was looking for.

I love handbags and spend as much as I can afford on one. The same with shoes and coats. I don't have huge amounts to spend though.

Don't get what?
Handbags? I use a shoulder bag or, more usually, a cross-border bag now.

The one I use was free 🙂
