What dreadful news this morning. Pauline was diagnosed with dementia in 2021 her husband has disclosed.

She is so young, only 65.

I can only wish her and her family all the very best.

I like her, she seems like a decent person. So sorry.

My brain is fuddled and overloaded, I think I need to be more vigilant around my health.

Oh no! Such sad news.

Fairislecable Tue 21-Jan-25 12:19:57

That is such sad news I remember listening to her talk about how supportive her mother was. She kept her mother’s handbag tucked behind the sofa (the same way her mother did).

Then she chose the song ‘wind beneath my wings’ - I wept sad

Lovely woman. Sorry and sad to hear about her on the news.

Chocolatelovinggran Tue 21-Jan-25 14:55:16

I, too, am very sorry to hear this. Dementia is a cruel disease.

I wonder why so many people are suffering from this. There must be a common factor.
Actors have to learn scripts and lines, which surely exercises their minds. So the theory that it is caused by mental stagnation would seem to be untrue.

One explanation is that we have got better at diagnosing it.

We share the sane first name, and an accent very similar, especially when listening to my voice recording/ answerphone etc.

So sorry to hear of the diagnosis.

I have enjoyed many of the roles she played.

Very upsetting news.

NonGrannyMoll Tue 21-Jan-25 16:26:40

Dementia is a nasty, nasty condition (sorry, rather stating the obvious there). I hope her doctors and family can help her as much as is humanly possible. I feel for them all.

Kate1949 Tue 21-Jan-25 17:01:59

Apparently she was diagnosed four years ago.

HousePlantQueen Tue 21-Jan-25 17:05:42

This is very sad news. Pauline Quirk is more than her character in Birds of a Feather, good though it was. She is an excellent actress and has done a great deal to help other youngsters enjoy her profession. So sad, so young too

Dementia is no respecter of age , people are diagnosed in their 50s . My DH was diognosed last March and life is becoming complicated! Although he is elderly he is physically fit and well. Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia invade every aspect of their life and of those who love them . I am sad to learn about Pauline Quirke , sadly she is on of 1000s . I hope it does not call on me while I have my DH to take care of.

rafichagran Tue 21-Jan-25 17:21:42

I was very sorry to hear this. Talented actress and seemed a very nice person.

Smileless2012 Tue 21-Jan-25 17:37:21

Very sad for her, her family and friends.

Yes I do, just couldn’t remember what it was called 😊

My Mum suffered from Dementia for many years. Would not give in & kept trying to talk to us & remember us until she was robbed of that eventually! Nasty illness that robs family of their loved one bit by bit! Would not wish it on my worst enemy! Hope Pauline & her family get as much help as they can! Very sad!

Rainnsnow Wed 22-Jan-25 13:36:46

She seems to have a close circle around her , the press have only just found out . That will have given her and her family time to not have her private life talked about. I get that it raises awareness but this is at there pace . Long line of female relatives with early onset dementia. Cruel disease.

Cateq Wed 22-Jan-25 14:18:23

It’s the one disease that scares me more than cancer. My Gran used to be terrified of getting it, as she needed to look after my aunt, who suffered brain damage as a child. She died almost 92 years old and it was only in her last few days it became apparent she was suffering from it. I pray I’m the same, it’s cruelly robs you of your personality and leaves behind a stranger.

wibblywobblywobblebottom Wed 22-Jan-25 14:22:11

Who?

Babs03 Wed 22-Jan-25 14:28:29

Tragic. My thoughts are with the family. With the right meds/support am hoping Pauline will still be able to enjoy life with her loved ones. There really needs to be more research done into dementia, is not just an old person’s condition, some younger ones get it prematurely and Pauline was definitely not elderly, she is two years younger than me.

Who?

Really? Then why bother even commenting. If you didn't know who Pauline Quirke is, a quick Google would have answered that question for you.
