We bought one of those light things that you plug into a 13 amp plug socket and if the power goes off at least we have a light to get round the home, saves the candles and match's scenario. Also please fully charge your mobile phones before you go to bed,and if you have a portable radio(with battery's) charge up the radio before bed time.
Our Weather Warning has changed to Red. First ever for me although I've been through quite a lot of hair-raising storms here before the warnings came into place! We are in Central belt Scotland. Got the digital DVD player charging and candles, lamps all set to go. Will fill a flask with hot water before I go to bed as it'll hit here between 2 am and 9pm tomorrow. Just taking some lamps to my daughter and grandchildren too.
Worst of it supposed to be up north but I think most areas will be affected in some way. Here in Dorset we have blue sky and sunshine at the moment, windy with it. Earlier we had rain and wind. Just watched a video of a Quintrell Down near Newquay in Cornwall where they had a mini tornado. Took off the roof of at least one house and damage to others.
Up north will come of worse so I've seen. I'm glad I don't live up there with all the floods, snow and gales they have. Stay indoors if you don't have to go out.
With the safety of customers and staff of paramount importance, we will not be safe to operate passenger services due to the forecast weather conditions across Scotland during #StormÉowyn.
All ScotRail services are suspended on Friday, 24 January.
Anyone anywhere in the world can be killed by a falling tree or even a falling wall at anytime. Although bad for them it’s very random and way down on the list of reasons to be killed.
I meant it’s Winter and we expect bad weather.Too much is made of our weather when you look at many other countries who really do go through the wringer every Winter.
Oreo, no, it isn’t, but it’s possibly devastating for those in its path if it reaches its estimated strength. The damage to infrastructure, homes, livelihoods and, heaven forbid, people, is potentially very real indeed.
We have an amber warning here in North Wales and I will stay at home. I was out in the last storm in December and a tree fell into the road in front of me as I drove home. If I'd been there a few seconds earlier it could have fallen onto my car. I had to turn round and try and negotiate flooded roads to get home.
I wasn’t paying full attention as we have no firm plans for the weekend, but the weather forecast I saw mentioned very high winds (90 mph?) across parts of the UK.
I don’t know which parts they are, but for those in the affected areas it sounds pretty dramatic. If we were planning to travel I’d be checking first.
I hope it's exaggerated. A tree in my garden came down in December's storm and landed on a neighbour's house doing quite a bit of damage and causing alarm. Luckily no-one was hurt. Another 2 trees look threatening. I had hoped the tree surgeon was going to make them safe before now, but he's not done the work yet. 🤞
Not at all certain yet if it will strike the uk and if so where, Likely to be NW ie Scotland but could move a bit to south or more likely to north of Scotland
