Another 90 mph wind/s forecast storm due on Friday, be safe and stay home on Friday if you can.

escaped Tue 21-Jan-25 18:41:58

Noooo please!
Couldn't have come at a worse time. 🤢 🌊

Baggs Tue 21-Jan-25 19:00:38

Winds or gusts? The difference is important.

Redhead56 Tue 21-Jan-25 19:17:48

We had dreadful storms recently took some fences out thanks for the heads up.

Aldom Tue 21-Jan-25 19:40:06

I'm in Oxfordshire and the BBC isn't weather forecast for Friday just predicts Gusty winds from the south west. That doesn't sound too dramatic to me.

Aldom Tue 21-Jan-25 19:41:11

Please ignore 'isn't'. Don't know where that came from. grin

Marydoll Tue 21-Jan-25 19:48:31

We have a yellow warning for winds in Glasgow on Friday.

Storm Éowyn is expected to bring very strong winds and widespread disruption on Friday Source the Met Office.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 21-Jan-25 20:20:23

Luckily we have no plans. Fortuitously.

karmalady Tue 21-Jan-25 20:31:30

Not at all certain yet if it will strike the uk and if so where, Likely to be NW ie Scotland but could move a bit to south or more likely to north of Scotland

Met O always acts defensively these days

Met O always acts defensively these days

Can you blame them after the forecast for Sevenoaks many years ago?

We are off to the shops early on Thursday, save us going out on Friday just keep safe every one.

Grammaretto Wed 22-Jan-25 05:55:55

I hope it's exaggerated. A tree in my garden came down in December's storm and landed on a neighbour's house doing quite a bit of damage and causing alarm. Luckily no-one was hurt.
Another 2 trees look threatening. I had hoped the tree surgeon was going to make them safe before now, but he's not done the work yet. 🤞

I wasn’t paying full attention as we have no firm plans for the weekend, but the weather forecast I saw mentioned very high winds (90 mph?) across parts of the UK.

I don’t know which parts they are, but for those in the affected areas it sounds pretty dramatic. If we were planning to travel I’d be checking first.

Marydoll Thu 23-Jan-25 13:47:09

All schools in East Renfrewshire are closed tomorrow. A day for the house!

AGAA4 Thu 23-Jan-25 13:55:01

We have an amber warning here in North Wales and I will stay at home. I was out in the last storm in December and a tree fell into the road in front of me as I drove home. If I'd been there a few seconds earlier it could have fallen onto my car.
I had to turn round and try and negotiate flooded roads to get home.

It’s hardly the end of the world🙄

Ziplok Thu 23-Jan-25 14:11:35

Oreo, no, it isn’t, but it’s possibly devastating for those in its path if it reaches its estimated strength. The damage to infrastructure, homes, livelihoods and, heaven forbid, people, is potentially very real indeed.

AGAA4 Thu 23-Jan-25 14:17:56

Oreo

It’s hardly the end of the world🙄

It may be the end of your world if a tree falls on you as almost happened to.me.

Oreo Thu 23-Jan-25 14:20:29

I meant it’s Winter and we expect bad weather.Too much is made of our weather when you look at many other countries who really do go through the wringer every Winter.

Marydoll Thu 23-Jan-25 14:23:16

My neighbour was killed by a fallen tree on a country road. It was the end of his world and also his partner.Their car was flattened.

Marydoll Thu 23-Jan-25 14:23:51

Our amber warner has changed to Red here in Glasgow.

Oreo Thu 23-Jan-25 14:41:10

Anyone anywhere in the world can be killed by a falling tree or even a falling wall at anytime. Although bad for them it’s very random and way down on the list of reasons to be killed.

Marydoll Thu 23-Jan-25 14:49:12

With the safety of customers and staff of paramount importance, we will not be safe to operate passenger services due to the forecast weather conditions across Scotland during #StormÉowyn.

All ScotRail services are suspended on Friday, 24 January.

They must be overreacting, don't you think Oreo.😉

TwiceAsNice Thu 23-Jan-25 14:50:33

I will have to go to work early tomorrow, home by lunchtime . I live in the SE think we are predicted better weather

sharon103 Thu 23-Jan-25 14:53:28

Up north will come of worse so I've seen.
I'm glad I don't live up there with all the floods, snow and gales they have.
Stay indoors if you don't have to go out.

sharon103 Thu 23-Jan-25 14:56:23

BREAKING: ScotRail cancels ALL trains in Scotland as Storm Éowyn set to batter country
