Another 90 mph wind/s forecast storm due on Friday, be safe and stay home on Friday if you can.

The Wendy house is now en route to see the Wizard.

LOL. I can imagine.
It's quite nice where I am in Northamptonshire. The sun shining. Quite windy but have had it worse. Everything's still standing.

Marydoll Fri 24-Jan-25 15:17:38

Most of our 6ft boundary fence is down and a tree has snapped, but next door's new fence is far worse! This is a photo of it.
DD is delighted about the fallen tree, lots of wood for her log burner.
Her neighbour has lost part of his new roof!

The irony is the only part of our fence still standing is the part repaired by DH after the last storm!

I'm sorry about the Wendy House Marydoll 😔

We chose the wrong weekend to visit friends in Glasgow! At home the schools are open and it’s sunny and slightly breezy. If we put washing out here today we would have to go to Fife or possibly Denmark to collect it!

Marydoll 😱😱😱. Would the eBay queen help if required? I won't suggest your next door neighbour!

I don't think I can get across the road! We shall have to make do with the Sunday Times. Only the best for us!!!
If it doesn't abate, I may be forced to use DH's Racing post!

Desdemona Fri 24-Jan-25 10:56:26

Depends where you are. I really think the media need to make sure people fully understand the risks where they are.

In some parts of the UK it is definitely unsafe. Where I am it is dry and a little bit breezy so I am putting washing out and opening the windows to let some fresh air in the house.

I received a message saying our surgery is closed, urgent calls only.

Tesco has also shut.

We have a major problem here. DH forgot to bring toilet rolls in from the garage yesterday he never listens , now we can's get the garage door open to get them. 😂

My granddaughter is flying here from Dublin on Sunday.
I do hope the wind speed will lessen before then.

We here in Central Scotland got the Gov warning alarm on our phones. Glasgow were warned of 200 mph gusts.

Apologies, I hit a 2 instead of a 1 without realising. Currently getting 70mph gusts and a few things blowing over. Everywhere is closed in my locality except essential services.

welbeck Thu 23-Jan-25 19:33:51

Let us hope there are no fatalities.

Marydoll Thu 23-Jan-25 19:29:52

Not worried, nor overreacting, just keeping safe.

I suspect you may not live in the West of Scotland., Oreo. However, I am happy to be corrected.

I can only recollect my LA, East Renfrewshire closing schools twice in my twenty five years working there, despite the most awful weather and staff in my school being unable to get there, leaving those who lived locally, to man the fort.

If they have decided to close, then it is serious.

^With the safety of customers and staff of paramount importance, we will not be safe to operate passenger services due to the forecast weather conditions across Scotland during #StormÉowyn.^

All ScotRail services are suspended on Friday, 24 January.

They must be overreacting, don't you think Oreo.😉

Quite possibly.
Tho with transportation there are many health and safety checks.
Don’t go out if you’re worried.Simples.

It makes a change for something more likely to affect the North and Scotland to be given a lot of coverage. Usually it's only when London and the South is likely to be affected that it seems to matter.

I've just watched a lecture on YouTube from the Met Office which was interesting but a lot of it was about things like barotropic lows and frontal waves, which doesn't mean much to me at all. The gist does seem to be that it's going to be a big one, though, particularly in the NW and Western Scotland. I am out this evening, but luckily have no real plans for the weekend. I think I'll be staying in with my knitting.

Stay safe, everyone.

Marydoll Thu 23-Jan-25 17:55:54

DH and I have just had alerts on our phone. Gave the fright of our life!

Aveline Thu 23-Jan-25 17:25:13

We've got a red warning. Everything round here to be closed. It feels a bit like lockdown ☹️. Scary. I just hope it's all an overreaction.

Gwyllt Thu 23-Jan-25 16:31:39

We have got an amber warning. Hopefully the last storm took any trees that were likely to fall
Not split all the logs from last time yet

Redhead56 Thu 23-Jan-25 16:31:28

Being for-warned is better than being ill informed.

AreWeThereYet Thu 23-Jan-25 16:24:42

I'm not expecting it to be bad here in Surrey, but I always think it is a case of forewarned is forearmed. Nothin wrong with keeping an eye on weather in your locality just incase the storm shifts.

This afternoon has been intermittent downpour and sunshine - more sunshine than I've seen all week in fact - but tonight looks like more heavy rain and gusty winds.

Power cuts here rarely last more than a few hours but we've bought some chargeable lights that are stuck on the wall at the top and bottom of the stairs and under the kitchen cabinets. They are movement activated and light up the hall and kitchen as we wonder around. The charge lasts about a week usually.

Bea65 Thu 23-Jan-25 16:21:27

Who’s being nasty?

Busybeejay1 Thu 23-Jan-25 16:13:41

No need to be nasty.

NonGrannyMoll Thu 23-Jan-25 16:05:16

Depends what comes down and where you are in relation to it.
