What have you purchased since January 1st that you didn’t need?

I’m asking as we’re moving (hopefully) so I am getting rid rather than buying, also I read an article about a woman who didn’t buy anything unnecessary for a year she saved a fortune.

I will go first, an Espa collagen mask and a shirt, both from TKMaxx, I think it came to about £30.

I didn’t need either but I was feeling pretty fed up on a cold drizzly day!

Several beautiful summer dresses and a few new tops, as I am going to Australia for my annual three month visit next week and I can’t keep taking the same clothes with me every year, can I?!

It would be shorter to say what I have bought that I really needed.

I bought a brightly coloured jacket - I call it my multi-coloured dream coat. I've only worn it twice so far but it's been greatly admired each time . I love it! But did I need it? .......

Eyebrow stampers? Please tell me more!

Milliedog Fri 24-Jan-25 18:45:28

A pair of black cowboy boots that called in a siren voice across the wilds of our John Lewis store....

A Ninja soup maker.

My old, well-used, non-Ninja one just gave up blending, and soup was getting burnt on the base.

No, I don't need a soup maker of any kind, as I have plenty of pans, and two stick blenders.

But Ninja had a sale on, I got cashback via TopCashback, and used my Tesco credit card, so also got Clubcard points. So practically free.

And it looks very at home in Ninja Corner, next to my other Ninja products

3 lego kits for myself. Those eyebrow stampers that are advertised on Facebook and Instagram (they actually work really well) as I basically don't have eyebrows since my cancer treatment 15 years ago.

I thought I'd treat myself to a guitar pickup for when I need amplification. Sadly, I didn't realise it didn't work for nylon strings until after I had modified it to fit so I can't send it back! Fortunately it was only £11!! (DS has steel strings on his guitar!!)

Then, yesterday, Aldi had some lovely yarn in stock, so I thought it would be a great opportunity to stock up for the crochet sunflower blanket design which has been on my radar for a while. Heaven only knows when I'll even start it!!

A visit to a National Trust property gave me the chance to buy some pink and blue garden twine... Well, it was very pretty and gives me joy. Not sure how it will look on my allotment, though!

I'm not even going to mention Kindle!!

I also have bought so many things that I don't need, can't even remember them all so here are those that I can remember:
Glass tealight holders artificial ferns on pots (2), book like storage boxes, an ornament (lion head) an Easter decoration...to name but some and all since 1 January!

I bought a mattress, smaller than my not very old double bed, telling myself that i can always buy the smaller bed frame when/if i get to move house BUT it just slides around so i caved in & purchased the smaller bed frame as well, which is waiting to be put up- probably a good idea really seeing as my bedroom is the size of a shoebox now.

Three pairs of socks from Seasalt. Definitely don’t need them as already have a drawer full. However they were so soft and at 3 for 2 I couldn’t resist.

Cateq Fri 24-Jan-25 14:32:54

I’ve not actually bought anything I didn’t need. My hand blender broke so had to replace it. I did buy a new purse but took it back to next as I didn’t like it once it arrived.

A Minnie Mouse hat and a pair of gloves. Wondering about the Minnie Mouse scooter with lights on the wheels…..

Go for it! You only live once 😂

I bought this mug. I felt very guilty about it but - I just loved it. It 'spoke' to me! More mugs are the last thing I need but but but...

I can quite understand why you bought this! I wish I had one!

Too many woodland figurines for the top of my grandson’s first birthday cake which is a woodland scene. Ordered some from amazon then thought it wouldn’t be enough so ordered a bigger batch and I now have loads of badgers, foxes, deers, and rabbits etc.
Also felt trees to stick on top of green icing.
Am no ace baker btw will be more like junior bake-off 😆

This sounds absolutely delightful..

Chocolate, 2 Radley handbags (in the sale and completely indulgent and necessary), more flights somewhere warm (this cold and damp causes my arthritis to be very painful). Think that's it but the month isn't over yet 🤔

GrauntyHelen Fri 24-Jan-25 13:21:07

Kindle books wouldn't do to run out of reading material Theres only 40 actual books on the to read shelf

Chaitriona Fri 24-Jan-25 13:10:45

A book of 200 embroidery stitches published by the Royal School of Embroidery. It gives instructions on how to sew these stitches and illustrations of embroideries that have used them. It is a beautiful book. Very heavy. It cost thirty pounds. Who knows whether I will ever learn to sew all these stitches But it is a lovely reference book to have.

Knitting yarn - which I need like a hole in the head!

BassGrammy Fri 24-Jan-25 13:02:55

A multicoloured bag, which I didn't need as I have more than enough bags! However my husband liked it and encouraged me to buy it. It was cheap so I didn't argue!

Juicylucy Fri 24-Jan-25 12:59:48

A coat from Mango love it didn’t need it.
Half length wellies love them didn’t need them.
Since then I’ve been doing “No spend days” where you don’t spend any money at all it’s working so far I’m up to 4 days a week.

TheMaggiejane1 Fri 24-Jan-25 12:49:28

A pair of pyjamas because no one bought me any at Christmas- and then someone gave me a belated Christmas present, yes you’ve guessed it - pyjamas!
A coffee table which we wouldn’t have bought if we’d known that our washing machine was going to blow up so now we’ve had to buy a new washing machine as well.
I’ve also been told by the dentist that I need a root canal filling which will cost about £1500. It’s turning into an expensive month.

MrsMatt Fri 24-Jan-25 12:39:26

A Turkey, 2 legs of lamb and a joint of pork. Not needed immediately but will come in useful when the family descend for Sunday dinner.

Lookout01 Fri 24-Jan-25 12:36:07

My makeup bag was looking very scruffy and zip had broken so Boots were selling their Christmas stock half price and so I bought a Ted Baker one with three products inside, also replaced a few items of makeup that were running out/lids broken etc. Made me feel real good to treat myself! 😁
