Good Morning Saturday 25th January 2025

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 2° and wet. A mixture of snow and rain is forecast. A happy Burns Day to all
Yesterday the storm raged relentlessly. I had to retrieve a bin and rubbish from the garden and a heavy pot has toppled over at my front door. I don't think I have any other damage. There were a couple of power cuts too. Dds fence took a battering and is propped up. There were trees down all around the area and a co-op in a nearby village has mainly collapsed. Other roof damage too. Like others, I had poor tv and phone reception and gave up with the tv.
Today I'm having dgs2 for a sleepover. It'll be his first time sleeping in the big bed so barriers will be in place to stop him falling out. Dd and Dsil are going out for a meal and an overnight stay. Dgs1 is supposed to be staying at his other gran's house, however they had a power cut yesterday which hadn't been fixed by last night, so plans may change. Have a good day all.

Good morning from a dry and still Suffolk where we had none of the fierce weather experienced by other parts of the country. Apart from some damage to property and the fear that the noise of the storm caused, all seem to have coped.

DH said there were several old trees down in the wood on one of our favourite dog walks which we’ll probably do this morning after which it will be a quiet day at home. Hope all have the best day possible.

Good morning from a dry and less windy NE.
Yesterday's wind was so strong it blew all the dustbins over and scattered rubbish all over the street.
No damage to the house thankfully.
DS lives in a village out in the country and fencing blew down and new cladding on the house took wings.
DD is flying to Florida on a business trip, I hope she has an uneventful journey.
DS and GD are visiting this afternoon and will take me shopping, haven't seen anybody since last weekend.
Watched the final of The Traitors last night, good result.

Good morning everyone from a bright and sunny 🌞 Northampton; we seem to have been lucky here and escaped most of the bad weather, and another nice day is forecast today.

A mid-morning brunch today then out to town early afternoon to the cinema where I am meeting a friend to see the new Bob Dylan film.

And after that a short walk to a nice Italian restaurant to join the rest of the family for birthday celebrations for DD and her DH, both birthdays this week. Mustn't forget to take their presents.

Luckily the winds did not cause us much trouble sorry to hear of those affected.
Small food shop this morning and this afternoon DD2 is visiting. Maybe a walk with her .
We are eating out with friends this evening at our favourite Indian restaurant.

Good morning all from a comparatively calm and cloudless Angus coast. I'm pleased to say the storm was a non-event in my little corner of the world - although, having said that, I noticed there is a large tree down across the bit of unused land at the bottom of the field so the winds must have been strong!
It was strange yesterday looking down at the town - a bit like 'The Night Before Christmas'. (Or Lockdown.)
I've heard there is another storm due in for Sunday, so I'm not sure I shall venture to journey the 80 miles to the DGDs, where DD and Newman are visiting, for my Burns Supper. It may be very calm and benign here but you never know how it will change. Perhaps this weekend discretion should be the order of the day.

Good Morning from Durham. It seems quite peaceful outside, after yesterday’s mayhem. The sky is beautifully blue. No real damage, but my garden pots, tubs and furniture are to upturn and put back in their proper places. Driving yesterday wasn’t too bad and the gritters were out too. Walking was worse!

I’ve no plans for today, other than the garden tidy, but could hear from DD2 later, after DGS2’s football session.

Good morning from County Durham. Thank goodness all is now calm.

Our neighbours have lost part of their roof due to the ferocity of the wind. A few fences are down and a number of dustbins misplaced along the street ( it was bin collection day). DH spent most of the morning picking up debris from various gardens as the bins repeatedly blew over. I'm hoping when we inspect our property today that things are OK. After losing half a roof several years ago I am understandably very nervous.

Winter clothes were sorted out yesterday and I have a charity bag full. Summer clothes to be targeted next.

I did manage to get to the hairdresser's too thanks to DH taking me and picking me up. I had heard some trees were down blocking roads so wasn't to happy about driving myself.

It seems DG1 may have broken her ankle at the gym. It couldn't be confirmed yesterday as too swollen. We'll see what the fracture clinic says today. She's such an active girl and won't take kindly to having to rest.

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from a calm, sunny South Yorkshire. Good heavens I am so late! I more than made up from Thursday night’s lack of sleep. I hope everyone survived the storms. I managed to get to school yesterday but in the car rather than on foot. The wind had calmed down a lot by then. GS messaged me last night to say he and a friend had played golf in the afternoon - goodness knows where the ball was going! DS rang to make sure I hadn’t been blown away, and I had what was supposed to be a quick conversation with a friend last night that turned into another two hour marathon. Somehow they always do, and it’s a joy.
A food shop this morning, some laundry to take advantage of the weather, and then a walk later.

Good morning from sunny West Sussex.

I’m relieved to hear most people have had minimal damage from Storm Eowyn, though your fence sounds bad, Marydoll. I hope those without power get it back soon. My DD in East Lothian messaged to say their greenhouse door was at the bottom of the garden! The greenhouse had very little glass left in it as a result of previous storms.

I have a quiet day to tidy up and finish my bookclub read - Ann Cleeves’ most recent - which I am enjoying very much.

Tomorrow we are off to DD3’s to mind DGDs while DD and her DH have a much needed overnight spa break.

Hope today goes well for all.

We missed the weather excitement yesterday (luckily) and have woken to a frosty world which the sun has as yet not challenged.

My plans for yesterday were altered by a request to take a friend to the local surgery where her ten minute appointment took well over an hour, followed by an SOS from another friend who had slipped in her garden and done herself no good. It felt really nice to be useful for once!

Woke late this morning thought it was Sunday, realised it was Saturday so usual full English will be more brunch than breakfast.
Out with our Redditch friends this evening, we have been seeing each other most weekends for over 50yrs.
Hope not to much damage has been done with the storm.
Will catch up with everybody's happenings later, safe travels those on the move and virtual hugs where needed ☀️

Morning from a sunny S Hants, frost earlier, we escaped any bad weather yesterday, not so MrJ’s family in Ireland and Belfast. Long power cuts for them and local damage, including over 100 trees down on a golf course.
Newspaper and taxi for family today, so a quiet one with haggis for dinner.

Good morning all from a frosty sunny Co Armagh, the snow last night missed here
Yesterday we had no electricity, internet , and the mobile networks were down too , from 4 am , I managed to find a radio that was working , so kept up to date with the news ,
The storm roared through like an express train , it was so loud ! We discovered neighbours on both sides had no power , so no heating and no hot food , we distributed flasks of hot water and refills so at least tea and coffee could help warm people
It was after dark when the whole thing got a bit depressing , I lit candles , found the torches and the solar camping light
The only damage in our garden was the greenhouse , the door came off and only one roof panel came off
It was such a relief when the power came back after 7.30pm ,
Floods of messages came in !
Some parts of the village are still without electricity
I’m glad we have a gas hob ! And we are unharmed as are our neighbours
Hoping for a better day for everyone xxx

Good morning from central belt of Fife. All around us it seems to be people clearing up the damage the storm brought us yesterday. It was very scary at times, we only had the felt lifted on our shed and the garden chairs thrown around. There are many trees down , lamp posts bent over, roofs off houses & flats, bus shelters lifted up and mangled. We have a new build and the adverts for the new homes and show house was torn off its made of very thin metal. It flew up the road hitting cars thank god nobody was outside !! The house builders were here early clearing up the mess and putting fences back up. At the moment there doesn't appear that anybody was hurt just a terrible amount of damage to property.

We really didn’t have much wind or rain yesterday , thank goodness. Sorry for those with damage and scary times.🙏.

Bluesaphire I’m going to see the Bob Dylan film too this afternoon. I won’t have the car so was going by train, but work on the line so no service. I’ll hop on the bus.

My (Cataract) friend who I went shopping with on Wednesday was rushed to hospital yesterday morning with a chest infection bordering on pneumonia! She only had a sniffle when I saw her, so things had deteriorated very quickly. I’ll phone her daughter to find out the latest.

Happy Burns day. Haggis neeps and tattles for dinner. Yesterday’s storm was horrendous (no damage) so we settled down to watch a film in the afternoon while we still had power - The Great Escaper. Michael Caine and Glenda Jackson. Best film in a long time. Lovely story
