Something else I just thought of from childhood Uncle Joe‘s mint balls, they were quite strong. I didn’t care for those. Both uncle Joe’s and victory V were made in the north of England, which is where I live maybe they’re just a regional thing or are they?

Uncle Joe's Mint Balls made by William Santus & Co. in Wigan, Lancashire. They used to have a market stall at Wigan indoor market but now besides selling wholesale, the public can either order online or visit their factory to order and collect.

I also appears that they make a wide rande of their sweets, including Uncle Joe's, in a wide variety of flavours and many of the products available as vegan, vegetarian and sugar free alternatives.

Must admit my preference is always the orginal Uncle Joe's

I found Wright’s coal tar soap recently.
It’s still in a bright orange packet - I’m not sure if it actually has coal tar/bitumen in it anymore but it smells the same.

Also Fisherman’s Friend throat lozenges. They’re strong as ever.

I buy Wright's Coal Tar soap, it's kept in the utility room for when we've been gardening, emptying bins etc.

Looked everywhere for Colemans onion sauce mix and was told it is no longer made. I have now found it on Amazon

Available at Asda, Ocado, Amazon and I suspect a few other supermarkets as well.

Crosstitchfan - I think maybe you are thinking of Symington's table cream? They were absolutely delicious, like a blancmange or milk jelly but much nicer with a creamy top when set. We used to have a maple one and fight over who got the topping. I wish we could get them now.

Oh yes, Symington’s Table Creams were lovely.

The Rolls Royce of blancmanges.

Thanks, but as I have never heard of this company, I feel it wasn’t them. It didn’t have a topping, so nothing to fight over, as it was literally like blancmange to look at and in texture.

Found a box of OMO in a Portuguese super market smells like the original. Mother used it all the time .

The orange curd is easy to make in small batches. I’ve done lots of citrus fruits such as lime and orange. It doesn’t take long , if you can’t ,a friend who makes chutney or jam May do you a batch . It’s just another thought on how to get your lovely curd .

Thanks to all those who have given advice about ground rice. I’ll see what I can do.

I am still looking for ground rice. Tesco is supposed to sell it but I can’t see it on the shelves or in any other supermarket.

Now sold as Rice Flour. It’s in most supermarkets but they don’t stock much of it. I get it from Sainsbury’s. Made by Dove’s.

Fry's chocolate cream is still available i quite often buy one from our petrol station. Not the 5 flavoured one though. You can still get the peppermint one on the green wrapping.

I love Lemon Curd, but living in the States I always make my own. My American friends LOVE it; the recipe is easy, and the BEST!

NannyC1 Fri 31-Jan-25 00:09:57

Greenfinch I think Baby Rice(Cerelac )is almost the same as ground rice x

I used to love Sago pudding but not seen it anywhere for years. If anyone spots it please let me know

I’d love to find Original Source shampoo. They only seem to sell shower gel now.
The tea tree shampoo was really strong, made my head tingle. The orange version was amazing, such a fresh clean smell. I haven’t found anything as good. It disappeared some time after 2001 I think.

I bought some victory v recently as I loved them as a child. Sadly disappointed, they are a pale imitation of the product I remember since the active ingredients were removed.

Sorry I obviously cannot guarantee that YOUT Tesco stock it, but the one here in Devon suddenly does.

And pudding rice is also hard to find, my Tesco doesn’t have it.

Yes they do but stored with the custards not the rice, I buy some every month

I miss the Brown and Polson Blancmange packets. They did a mixed pack with vanilla, strawberry, raspberry and chocolate flavours, or packs of 2 of the individual flavours. My mum gave us bowls of hot raspberry blancmange as a quick dessert in winter. She called it pink pudding! Tesco sell individual sachets of strawberry blancmange but I never see the Brown and Polson ones anywhere. I liked the raspberry flavour best.

I can send you some FREE. I bought some from Amazon last month. They came in a pack of 24 and I have only used 5. I can send 12, 4 each of strawberry, chocolate and banana.

Greenfinch Thu 30-Jan-25 20:36:14

That sounds interesting AreWeThereYet. I will give it a try.

Barbarasmum Thu 30-Jan-25 20:34:51

Ahhh...Spangles.

Barbarasmum Thu 30-Jan-25 20:32:51

I can send you about a dozen packets of Brown and Polson blancmange in strawberry, chocolate and banana flavours. 4 of each. I bought them (24) from Amazon last month and have only used 5 so far.

I think rice flour is the same as ground rice. But I don't know what sort of rice would be in the various different sorts of rice flour.

Greenfinch If you have a reasonable blender you can make rice flour by blending rice. I use a Nutribullet but it might work in a food processor as well. White rice or brown rice.
