Poundland had bars of Fry's Peppermint Cream at Christmas. And they sometimes have Paynes Poppets.

They're a blast from a very distant past.

The likes of B&M and Home Bargains often have both of those. I got a box which had the Fry's Cream, Peppermint Cream and Turkish Delight in it.

I got one too. I couldn't work out which one to eat first!
Do you remember the one with different flavours in each section?

Yes! Each segment was a different flavour. I'd forgotten all about them.

I think the Neapolitan ice cream with the green layer was Eldorado
Much prettier than the brown one

Tizer. A favourite of mine from when I was knee high to a grasshopper.

Cadburys Bournville chocolate used to come in a foil wrapper with 2 very thin bars inside. I'm guessing this was last seen in 1960s ? If anyone ever finds that again, PLEASE share the location - thanks

Something else I just thought of from childhood Uncle Joe‘s mint balls, they were quite strong. I didn’t care for those. Both uncle Joe’s and victory V were made in the north of England, which is where I live maybe they’re just a regional thing or are they?

Has anyone seen Greens Lemon Meringue Pie mix.

I went in the chemist yesterday and whilst I was waiting saw a packet of Victory V lozenges, I haven’t seen those for absolutely years,so I bought 2 packets
As a child, I used to love them, They used to have the ingredients pressed into the tablet and I always remember one of the ingredients was chloroform, I was telling the lady at the chemist and I’m sure she didn’t believe me
However, I’ve just looked it up on Wikipedia and it had ether as well as chloroform in it !!
I am sure I remember that they made
Victory V as gum, the same consistency as a Roundtree fruit gum,or is it something I’ve dreamt of from my past?
To put it in context, I am 75 , so it would’ve been 65 years ago approximately
I also used to like Barley sugar the very hard sweet

I am still looking for ground rice. Tesco is supposed to sell it but I can’t see it on the shelves or in any other supermarket.

I think rice flour is the same as ground rice. But I don't know what sort of rice would be in the various different sorts of rice flour.

I’ve had milk delivered to my doorstep for over fifty years. It’s never gone away round here! Milkman will also deliver bread, yoghurt, fruit juice and lots more.

When my mother was alive we used to enjoy a glass of Carolans as a substitute for Baileys. I don’t see it around now and was wondering if anyone could suggest another one that is fairly close in taste to Baileys which is far too expensive apart from when it is on offer at Christmas.

Crosstitchfan - I think maybe you are thinking of Symington's table cream? They were absolutely delicious, like a blancmange or milk jelly but much nicer with a creamy top when set. We used to have a maple one and fight over who got the topping. I wish we could get them now.

Neapolitan ice cream is readily available, at least at Sainsbury’s, their own brand. It has three flavours, strawberry, chocolate and vanilla - nothing green! I buy it for the grandchildren who love scooping it out with one of those spoons with a handle that you squeeze to push it out, like school dinner ladies used to serve mashed potato.

Lemon curd is readily available at Tesco, in a cheaper version and a bit more expensive. I bought one last week to o my put in tarts and a cake.

I used to buy Lemon Cheese. Have not seen it for a while. It was very tasty instead of Lemon Curd sometimes.

I have just read that Milky Way crispy rolls are back in the shops. Sadly I had never heard of them.

RillaofIngleside Thu 30-Jan-25 12:15:00

English Heritage blood orange curd and cherry curd are both divine, you can order online.
