Do you have one? If so, what is it that you like about it?

I have a sample box of perfume from Saltworks. It's clever marketing, but the idea is that you buy sample boxes at varying prices. Each box comes with little vials of scent - ten per box, plus a voucher with a value that depends on how much you paid for the samples - the more you pay, the higher the discount. You try them out and decide which you prefer, and then trade in your voucher for ether a full bottle of your favourite, or a few travel sizes. They make good gifts if you don't know what the recipient would like, and there is a booklet with notes about each of the scents - a bit like wine tasting cards grin.

I'm working through the scents now to see which one to order, and it's got me thinking of favourites over the years. I loved Chanel 19 for a long time, and Jo Malone's Pomegranate Noir, but tried a few different ones that I got as presents or in duty free shops.

I liked the freshness of the 19 when I was younger, and the deeper, woodier notes of the PN later on. I've always liked patchouli/musky/vanilla scents, and am veering towards those with those notes in my sample box.

What about you? Do you stick to a particular scent, or chop and change as you find new ones?

My mam liked Vanderbilt, I think it was called that.

I also liked a one from body shop but it was discontinued. Think it was called ?? Fig? Also rain flowers by Boots many years ago. Can anyone remember a scent called Manhattan?

I used Vanderbilt years go and loved it. No idea why I stopped.

GrammarGrandma Tue 28-Jan-25 15:38:41

Chanel no 5 only and always. But it has bcome very expensive.

Wizz Tue 28-Jan-25 09:56:28

My favourite is and always has been Diorissimo. It is expensive now so I use very little.
I like L'air du temp, Nina Ricci, Anais Anais, Royal Secret By Germaine Monteil . My sense of smell is not good now, but my memory of scents and perfumes still evokes lovely memories.

In my teens/early twenties it was Coty Emeraude, then it was Carven Ma Griffe, but for many years now it has been Clinique Aromatics Elixir.

When my husband went away for work he always brought me large bottle of CoCo perfume as it was cheaper a duty free in those days . After he died I brought can't remember the name but the bottle was a dark purple in the shape of a crest moon. But last 10 years don't wear any. Had my eyes tested before Christmas and the young man doing to the tests eye pressure etc said what are you wearing it smells lovely . I only use Simple products as have sensitive skin as I have gotten older and they don't smell of anything. So said thank you but it's just me . 😊

Goldieoldie15 Tue 28-Jan-25 02:39:56

Clinique used to have lovely perfume. Was in a greenish bottle. Cannot remember the name. Sadly they’ve stopped it now. I loved that one.

Diggingdoris Mon 27-Jan-25 23:24:12

I wear whatever my family have bought me. The cheaper ones I have a squirt every day, the more expensive ones I wear when going out with friends. My favourites are Beautiful, Dune, L'air du Temps.
I used to keep a bottle of Blue Grass in my locker at work and have a squirt at lunchtime. Someone came into the ladies and said 'poo what's that smell, has someone been cleaning the toilets?'I was so embarrassed, and didn't own up, but I've never worn it since!

Kenver60 Mon 27-Jan-25 22:58:33

Portrait of a lady is expensive but so lovely by Frederic Malle the body butter is nearly as good as the perfume lasts ages .

NoodleNut oh definitely wore Charlie by Revlon. When I was about 16 my best friend bought me a massive bottle for Christmas- loved it!😻

roscoebabe Mon 27-Jan-25 21:20:47

Hugo Boss Deep Red Woman, I've worn it for years and my sons buy it me when they can't think of anything else! I never go out without wearing it even taking the dogs up the park.

Crazymum Mon 27-Jan-25 20:39:48

One of my favourites is Guchi Rush , my daughter gave it to me years ago when I said "oh I like that! " later on she said she couldn't stand it because it " smells like expensive fusty ... but it's not TOO bad on you " .

Browncow Mon 27-Jan-25 20:33:55

I wore Charlie in the early seventies, and Moon Drops (Revlon) and Charles of the Ritz in the late seventies. I then wore Diorissimo, Diorella, and Anais in the eighties, then went on to wear White Linen, Beautiful, and Happy. I sure that there were many others too, but after breast cancer at 50, have not much worn perfume. If I do now in my sixties, I love Jo Malone’s French Lime Blossom.

Diplomat Mon 27-Jan-25 20:07:56

Clinique's Aromatics Elixir
Chanel No. 5
Dior Poison

JamesandJon33 Mon 27-Jan-25 19:43:22

No, I wore Charlie for a while. Late 70s I think.

NoodleNut Mon 27-Jan-25 19:37:38

Am I the only one that wore 'Charlie' in my youth?!

Jennynanna Mon 27-Jan-25 19:35:50

Your right there 😊 though the napisan isn't the nicest smell 🤣

Arto1s Mon 27-Jan-25 19:27:31

Chanel Number 5 during the day.
Hermes 24 Faubourg if going out in the evening (it’s quite “heavy”)
Just bought what was supposed to be a replica of Helena Rubinstein’s Apple Blossom to remind me of my teenage years, BUT, nothing like - very disappointed.

CanadianGran Mon 27-Jan-25 19:09:58

I think my signature has been a green tea or citrusy floral. For years I've worn Elizabeth Arden Green Tea, and have veered off to White Tea, or O de Lancome.

I didn't realize I had a signature scent, but my daughter was out somewhere and instantly recognized it on someone else.

Every morning I have a spritz after my shower; to me it smells clean and fresh.

I have tried other scents, but always end up going back to this. As for the Jo Malone ones, I had a few small sample bottles, but to me they disappeared ten minutes after spraying, so I can't understand the expense.
