I'm meeting friends 'for coffee' this morning. But I hate coffee and have boring tea.

What do you drink when you go out for coffee?

grandMattie Tue 28-Jan-25 08:33:17

I love, love the smell of coffee. Sadly, I always find the flavour disappointing. (Enjoy coffee cake though :-) )
I normally have a pot of "brown", normal English tea when I go out.

I’m a real black coffee lover, no milk or sugar, so I can taste the coffee. I hate tea, just the smell of it has turned my stomach since I was a child, so for me it’s a good job when I’m out for a drink that the smell of coffee is stronger.

Love coffee, so a latte for me. Hate tea.

I’ve been known to have a cocktail 😀

I love tea and fresh coffee, my machine is not working at the moment and I miss it.
When I go out with friends I like a latte or cappuccino. I dislike instant coffee.

Yes, there’s nothing like the smell of fresh coffee.

I usually have a cappuccino when I have coffee out. We have decaf filter coffee at home because of DH’s AF. I like a hot chocolate occasionally but not with all the whipped cream and marshmallows they add in coffee shops.

Cabowich Tue 28-Jan-25 09:20:13

I'm a tea drinker.

I've never really liked coffee. I used to enjoy a liqueur coffee after a meal until I realised that the reason I was still awake at 4am was down to the caffeine. So I never drink it now - too sensitive to caffeine.

I can't even have a cup of tea after 2pm without it causing sleepless nights.

Cabbie21 Tue 28-Jan-25 09:21:26

I don’t drink coffee. I do like coffee cake though!
I drink tea, with very little milk, not too strong. If someone serves me a cup with the normal amount of milk in I cannot drink it. In the afternoon if I’m out I might order Earl Grey. My daughter likes ginger tea, but I’m not keen on fruit teas.

Not that keen on coffee and only have one cup a day at 11am. Latte and cappuccino are the best for me. I do go for hot chocolate but as I don’t take sugar and drink cocoa at home I do find it a bit too sweet. There are now loads of herbal teas, some more pleasant tasting than others.

Charleygirl5 Tue 28-Jan-25 09:31:02

I drink nothing else and love M&S Instant, but if out with friends, Americano with cold milk.

I hate tea and am not a lover of hot chocolate, mainly because I loathe hot milk. Fussy, moi?!

karmalady Tue 28-Jan-25 09:31:29

I only love my own coffee and the coffee my AC make. I have have just one black coffee a day, DS taught me about the use of pressure in deriving the best flavour from coffee. I have cafetiers, never use them nowadays., I do use an aero press One AC uses a stove top device and the others have bean to cup machines

I use organic beans that I grind myself. I changed the grain size slightly to a little bit finer, otherwise the flavour does not come out and I use arabica beans and don`t like robusta beans

I buy 1 kg at a time and vac pack most to freeze. My coffee tastes as good as it smells but it has taken me a lifetime to get there

I am a tea drinker but when I go out I find you get offered 6 different types of coffee or a cheap tea bag. Where can you get decent tea?

Indigo8 Tue 28-Jan-25 09:45:17

I drink coffee flavoured drink, AKA instant coffee. I hate tea in all its forms.

I found out recently that I am quite high on the super taster spectrum. Approximately 25% of the population are on the spectrum and it means that their tongues have more taste receptors and are more sensitive to different tastes, particularly sweet and bitter.

I can't afford to go to Costas or Starbucks but when I have a hot drink out it is usually hot chocolate and it is invariably too sweet.

Redhead56 Tue 28-Jan-25 09:45:44

I only drink breakfast tea at home don’t drink it otherwise. I drink Gold Blend coffee at home occasionally it’s never available anywhere else. I’m just not into fancy coffees but I do drink flavoured green teas and fruit teas.

Generally I don’t do cake and coffee I only eat cake at the weekend and it’s always homemade. If I am out at a local eatery with friends I prefer to drink wine or in the summer cider.

THANK YOU, kittylester! I thought I was the only one on our entire planet that hates coffee! I can't stand it!

I hate it in every way, black, white, with or without extras, in food etc. The look smell and taste absolutely makes me heave and I just WILL NOT touch it under any circumstances no matter what anyone says!

I used to work in cafe's and restaurants and while I had no problem with serving and preparing any other food and drink, I had to serve/prepare all these coffee drinks and coffee cakes and I'd go home reeking of it!

Tea is definitely not boring! I love PG Tips and often sit on the edge of my bed late night/early hours guzzling a lovely mug of it!

I don't even like the word ''coffee''! UGH!

kittylester Tue 28-Jan-25 09:56:27

Ha ha ha, nannylovesshopping, we are actually meeting in a wine bar.

It doesn't bother me now but, when I was a teenager and coffee bars were the thing, I was teased unmercifully by my friends. I had to drink Russian Tea.

supergirlsnan Tue 28-Jan-25 09:57:31

I'm with FGT, love the smell but not so much the taste. Feel the same about toast.

PinkCosmos Tue 28-Jan-25 09:58:06

I don't like or drink coffee. I stopped drinking it when I was pregnant (41 years ago) as it made me heave. Prior to that, it was all I drank. The smell of filter coffee just smells of dirty ashtrays to me. Maybe the usual combo of coffee and cigarettes has caused me to think this

On the odd times I have had coffee since, it hasn't agreed with me. I only drink tea now.

If I 'go for coffee' I will usually drink tea or sometimes hot chocolate. I'm not a massive fan of herbal tea

jusnoneed Tue 28-Jan-25 10:02:04

I drink a cup of strong Nescafe around 6am when I get up and another at 9.30/10am (just finished todays) and that's it for the day. I don't drink tea.
My OH drinks multiple cups of tea through the day but rarely coffee.
Cannot remember the last time I had coffee out but don't like the frothy milky stuff, no taste to it.

sf101 Tue 28-Jan-25 10:17:44

I don't drink tea or coffee or any hot drinks, never have. So it would always be a cold drink for me.

pascal30 Tue 28-Jan-25 10:22:46

I drink Yorkshire tea at home, and will have either expresso or a latte/chai coffee with friends.. but nothing beats the coffees you get in little bars in France..

henetha Tue 28-Jan-25 10:22:51

I'm not keen on coffee. It doesn't seem to like me. Gives me indigestion and keeps me awake. So I drink tea which I love.
Only about three cups a day though.
And hot chocolate now and then.
And lots of water, fruit juice, and lemon barley water.

Wyllow3 Tue 28-Jan-25 10:27:21

I have two lattes (caftiere) to "get started" first thing then drink de caff Yorkshire Tea in the day. If I'm out its another small latte.
I disliked coffee at first taste, but everyone at uni seemed to drink it.

What do you drink when you go out for coffee?

Can you go somewhere with more options?
quality black teas
quality herbal teas
Hot chocolate
Delicious pressé and cordial?

I like a "good" coffee but will have almost anything else if the coffee and tea are poor.
