As I closed the last kitchen I feel I should open a new one as I think that Soop is in a predicament with the weather.
So on her behalf I welcome you all to visit and enjoy our new space.

Please feel free to bring your sorrows and worries as well as your joys and happy times.
There is always someone to congratulate and to commiserate.

A newish year and a very new kitchen, a meeting place for all.

‘Evening All’.

soop your lovely kitchen does not foster a league table when it comes to life’s troubles. Whatever our worries or illnesses, we are all here to care for and support one another. That is the ethos I think of this comforting place that you have fostered for so many years.

We are home having had my stepfather join us to eat this afternoon. A good meal was enjoyed by we three. There’s a chalk board beside the bar and every week something witty is written on it. This was today’s amusing message! Tickled me anyway. 😁

Yay! I won yesterday's Scrabble game by a meager margin. grin

I have been giving more serious thought to the matter of whether I should, or shouldn't proceed with the parastomal hernia repair. We see the surgeon on Friday. If he says that he cannot operate, then I have no need to fret further. If he says yes, I need to think about how I shall cope post surgery with my rapid declining loss of mobility. At present Mr Soop helps me to manage certain tasks but I doubt that he is strong enough to assist me after the abdomen has been re-opened, the stoma closed and a new one constructed all held together with mesh and numerous stitches. As I sit in the quiet corner, I am aware that I may have to live with the hernia for the rest of my life. It is as large as a melon. It is heavy. It is uncomfortable. But then there are countless people bravely dealing with far, far worse.

Thank you for listening. I am thankful to be able to express my fears with you lovely lot.

Hello Kitchen people.

Hope you all sleep well and those stranded abroad touch down at Heathrow soon.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 22-Mar-25 20:23:26

I’ve just put L’il Miss (8) to bed. Aren’t they masters at stalling tactics at this age? I’d said I’d read her a bedtime story then she asked “please grandma before we read, PLEASE would you French braid my hair?”
I’m a soft touch.
It took 5 minutes I used to do both our girls for school erm … 40 years ago now! You never lose the knack.
Anyway all’s quiet now. 🩷

cornergran Sat 22-Mar-25 19:21:43

Hope that works jax. Sinus pain is horrid.

🤞here for Mondays post fgt. Enjoy lunch tomorrow.

We’ve a different passport aggravation. On line renewal went like clockwork. Dispatched the old passports using signed for post as instructed on the passport office site and guess what, they haven’t got there. Two weeks now. Fortunately not needed urgently. The passport office replies to my ‘help’ questions via their communication form are obviously AI generated and don’t answer the basic - what do I do now. They just tell me the new passports can’t be processed until the old ones are received. I know that! When there’s space next week I’ll sit in a queue on the phone and hope to get a person. I refuse to worry, there are worse things in the world.

Good luck with the Scrabble soop. Hope Mr Soop’s scalp is comfortable and you both have a good evening.

Hope the family don’t have too many flight hassles grannyg.

Time for feet up here. Love to all.

Jaxjacky Sat 22-Mar-25 18:31:36

Hi all, what a pain GG13 I hope they get a swift onward flight. Talking of flights, everything crossed FGT in the lap of the gods, or the post!
A quiet day with the paper apart from a consultation, after
waiting, with a pharmacist to sort my ongoing sinusitis, liquid antibiotics, unusual, but more efficient, four teaspoons, 4 x a day, for four days. Hopefully that will sort it, it is annoying.

Redcar Sat 22-Mar-25 18:13:57

fgt fingers crossed your passports arrive on Monday so you can get away on Tuesday.
grannygravy I hope your AS and his wife can get a flight back to Heathrow tomorrow.
soop I hope you and mr soop are enjoying relaxing in the quiet room.
A quiet day for me today, I went for a walk this morning then changed the bedclothes on my bed. Washed the sheet and duvet cover and got them dry in the tumbler. Too showery to put them outside. I haven’t done much else today. Watching the BeeGees on Sky Arts at the moment!
Have a peaceful evening everyone.

brook2704 Sat 22-Mar-25 18:07:44

Hope they get back home soon GG13!

brook2704 Sat 22-Mar-25 18:06:44

That’s a shame about the passports fgt, like you say they’ll hopefully arrive early next week and you can still go away for a few days 🤞
All quiet here now after a busy 24h - DH has just opened some wine and we’re going to relax watching tv this evening. We’ve only watched the first episode Adolescence so can’t really comment on it yet
Did you win at scrabble soop ?
Hope all is going ok with you and the boys grandmabatty and they sleep well tonight for you 😴😴
Love to all in the quiet corner x

GrannyGravy13 Sat 22-Mar-25 17:38:42

The Imp is here for dinner and till his mummy collects him about 9ish

AS 3 and his wife managed to get off of their Island by buying tickets to Dubai, (they were refused boarding by Etihad as their onward flight to Heathrow couldn’t be confirmed) they are keeping everything crossed for a flight to Heathrow tomorrow (their car is there) then it will be the lengthy process of claiming on their insurance.

Enjoy your evening everyone 🙋‍♀️

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 22-Mar-25 16:06:39

An early ‘Evening All’.

We are going over to babysit soon. I’m just about to make us mushroom omelettes. Quick and easy tea that just happens to be nutritious too.

No passports! Aargh! So we’re not going tomorrow.
Maybe they’ll arrive Monday or Tuesday? Still time then to fit in a week before the pre-booked flights home. It’s our own fault really taking our eye off the ball.

I changed our meal with my stepfather. Put it back to our usual Sunday as we aren’t ✈️. My stepfather did make me laugh when I told him the passports hadn’t arrived. He said “You need to claim from the Royal Mail … for missing your LWW 🍷 gat together on Tuesday!”. 😂

soop Sat 22-Mar-25 15:49:54

My very best wishes to you lovely lot. I am relaxing in the quiet corner.

Mr Soop appears to be setting up the Scrabble board. Hey ho! I shall don my thinking cap and try to be creative with whatever tiles I am dealt.

Bless you. smile

Grandmabatty Sat 22-Mar-25 07:30:16

I've no intention of watching it either Kitty. I can do without harrowing stuff. I might recommend it to dd and Dsil though, as they have two boys to bring up

kittylester Sat 22-Mar-25 07:01:06

Thank you thinking of us, Jax.

We had a lovely meal last night with neighbours who are also lovely friends. A good end to a funny week. You be careful with that cleaning, lark

And, you be careful with that walking lark, FGT.

I was warned off watching Adolescence, llfl by the mother of an adolescent. She said it was far to distressing. DH seems to be coping but I'm not risking it.

Hi kitchen pals, it’s been a busy afternoon and evening here, DD2 and the DGC came round for the evening and they’re all staying over. No specific reason only that they’d asked if they could so that was nice. There was just a bit of bickering and the DGC teasing each other but it soon settled down. It’s all gone quiet now, everyone is in their rooms so I’ve flopped in bed and I’m exhausted so hoping to sleep well.
Wishing all kitchen pals a good nights sleep and hugs to those in the quiet corner x

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 21-Mar-25 22:29:03

Hello kitchen people.

I hope you’ve all had the best day possible.

We had a fairly quiet day, the highlight of which was lunch at a pottery about 20 minutes away. They make the best quiche and cake.

While OH watched England win I watched the final two episodes of Adolescence, which was harrowing to say the least.

Sleep 💤 tight.

Nannytopsy Fri 21-Mar-25 21:48:31

Just watched our Leicester boys win convincingly at Northampton. I think that’s Bluebell’s team - sorry!
We have our first weekend on a lower tariff for off peak electricity , so the washing machine will be on tomorrow.
Sleep well everyone 💤

Jaxjacky Fri 21-Mar-25 18:52:44

You deserve a drink FGT cheers 🥂
I had a mad two hours cleaning today, most unlike me, MrJ was most concerned, we’ve just came in from the pub, it’s raining which will do the garden good.
Chicken, mushrooms and bbq sauce cooking away, well eat in half an hour.
A wave to the quiet corner, I hope you’ve had a restful day kitty and those struggling have a peaceful evening.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 21-Mar-25 18:08:51

‘Evening All’.

My knees ache. We’ve done so much walking this week! We worked out it was just over 2 hours a day x 5 days. Himself made me laugh as we were walking through the park on our way to get L’il Miss. “If I took my shoes off I’m sure they’d find their own way over”. Ha!

I’ve just taken two paracetamol. I don’t have a watch that counts steps but I’m probably up high! That, and the alarm going off every morning at 6:30am. And can you believe we’d already arranged to babysit tomorrow night? Above and beyond comes to mind. 😂

Anyway we’ve been invited over for drinks now with our friends who are neighbours. Chin chin! 🍷

Jaxjacky Fri 21-Mar-25 09:40:28

Would physio help?
I think you’ve done remarkably well, I’m sure the 3lb will go as you become more active

GrannyGravy13 Fri 21-Mar-25 09:20:31

Jaxjacky

How are those injuries coming along GG13?

I am driving, (automatic car) left knee is rather stiff and cannot kneel or bend it as much as before (I am usually very bendy and supple)

Can do more at the gym, but some yoga moves are beyond me still, as is running and/or jumping around.

I have put on 3lb which needs to be gone before Easter and centre parcs 🤪

Nannytopsy Fri 21-Mar-25 08:21:54

I took 2 cocodamol ( and a senna!) last night and slept like a baby!
Today it’s a girls’ lunch out (GLO) with friends from the village. We are trying out the nearest pub, which has recently changed hands. It would be great if it has improved. DH and another husband are acting as our drivers.

Nothing much happening at Gravy Grange.

(Hugs) to those in need 😘
