I really liked Dad’s army and Rising Damp. I also liked an American sitcom called Rhoda, was a spin off from The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Was a sitcom called Just Good Friends in the early 80s, I loved it, especially because a very good looking Paul Nicholas was in it.

Thanks Kate.
I wasnt sure as I think I must have been really young when it was on, but then I don't know how I got to see it.

I used to like Alf Garnet, too.
With Una Stubbs in it.

That was Till Death us do Part with Alf Garnet. It was funny but wouldn't be allowed on TV now.

One I loved as a child was ‘The Rag Trade’. With a very young Sheila Hancock and Peter Jones with Miriam Karlin. All set in a garment factory. That is going back many many years to the 1950s I think.

"Everybody Out " was Miriam Karlin's catch-phrase when she called them out on strike.......
It was a good one. I love a good sitcom, I've watched most of them but I can't remember their names , God help me.
Rising Damp was a cracker.......

I used to love Ever Decreasing Circles from the 1980 - with Richard Briers, Penelope Wilton, Peter Egan plus the neighbours Howard and Hilda in matching jumpers.

I also liked 1990s sitcom Waiting for God set in a retirement community where the residents engage in a battle of wits with the slimy manager, Harvey. Graham Crowden was great as the subversive Tom as was Stephanie Cole* as the grumpy retired journalist Diana.

*It is really strange looking back to realise Stephanie Cole was playing a retirement home resident in her late 40s!

The thing about celebrity status is that it can get you down.
A friend had a contretemps with Patricia Routledge when asking her to speak at her local WI. PR gave her short shrift and who could blame her because she probably got this kind of stuff all the time and it gets wearing.

Kate1949 Fri 31-Jan-25 12:25:09

I think Pledges Pickles was in Nearest and Dearest Miss A.

Kate1949 Fri 31-Jan-25 12:22:28

Well my sister met Ronnie Corbett and several other celebrities at a golf fair many years ago. She said Ronnie was delightful, friendly to everyone. Jimmy Tarbuck on the other hand....

MissAdventure Fri 31-Jan-25 12:17:32

What was the one with Nellie Pledge as one of the characters, and the brother in law called Walter?
"Have you been, Walter?"
"Has he been?".
They worked or owned a pickle factory, I think?

Ooh yes!
It must be really dated now, but it was quite innovative at the time.

mum2three Fri 31-Jan-25 11:45:50

I'm probably older than most of you but one of my favourites (not a sitcom but worth mentioning) was a series called 'Catch hand'. It was about two men who travelled around the country, taking on temporary work, and the situations they got involved in.

I did not like Ronnie Corbett one little bit. By all accounts, he was an unpleasant person in real life

A friend of mine appeared in several episodes of The Two Ronnie's and said they were both delightful. Ronnie C taught her how to make bread!

MissAdventure Fri 31-Jan-25 11:30:14

I think it was Keith Barron who was in a sit com where he and his wife were on holiday, ànd made friends with a glamorous couple.

I can't remember the name of it.

MissAdventure Fri 31-Jan-25 11:21:16

Well, that's taken the wind out of my sails!

I've always liked him, but not known that about him.

I used to like 'Sorry!' with Ronnie Corbet(?) in it, 'Rising Damp' and 'Brush Strokes'.

Then there was 'The Liver Birds', 'On the buses', 'Please Sir'. smile

To this day, I can remember having a crush on a young doctor in Emergency Ward 10 - Simon Forrester. I even remember his name!

Grantanow Fri 31-Jan-25 10:44:38

Remember Emergency Ward 10? Most episodes are lost but a very few remain on YouTube. Seem very staid compared with modern medical series.

eddiecat78 Fri 31-Jan-25 10:38:53

Does anyone remember "Rosie" about a young policeman? It starred Paul Greenwood who also wrote the theme tune. Paul is a friend of mine and a really lovely chap

Indigo8 Fri 31-Jan-25 10:32:06

Does anyone remember "Take a Letter Mr Jones" starring John Inman? Very much of its time, a cringe a minute.

Lovetopaint037 Fri 31-Jan-25 09:03:07

Does anyone remember David Jason in Lucky Fellow? It ran in 1975 when I was going through a really traumatic time and it was a real escape and so funny.

I loved her in monarch of the glen . Fab series xx

I loved her in The Pallisers.
The box set was brilliant for long winter evenings - 24 episodes!
I now have it on DVD.
