I used to like Birds Of A Feather and wish it would be repeated again on terrestrial television.

"Everybody out!" was Miriam Karlin's catch phrase. I don't think Yootha Joyce was in The Rag Trade.

The best sitcoms for me have to be Porridge, Dad’s Army, One Foot in the Grave and Fawlty Towers. All brilliantly written.
Also - the only American comedy I’ve ever liked - Home Improvement.
I’ve never understood Friends. Our daughter loved it. I wonder if it’s an age thing. 🤔

I agree and would add Father Ted and the Good life.

Lot's of goodies. I enjoyed Little Britain too but that's not so old.

Not quite a sitcom, but I’m watching Blott on the Landscape on Youtube. It’s very silly, almost a farce, but David Suchet is brilliant! Not a hint of Poirot in this!

Yootha Joyce used to shout ‘Everbody out!’ ThevRag Trade was great.

Lovetopaint037 Thu 06-Feb-25 18:52:42

“Everybody out!” Was the cry. Sheila Hancock and I think Reginald ????

Eloethan Tue 04-Feb-25 22:29:51

I think the Rag Trade was where Sheila Hancock started.

I think that I like sitcoms that remind me of people I know .
Ever Decreasing Circles is an example .
I lived next to a man with Richard Brier's character only he wasn't nearly as nice .
He drove me insane .

We have our own Hyacinth Bucket at church -only recently she's thawed out a great deal and has become pleasant and friendly.

Rising Damp was brilliant. I loved all the characters and lusted after Don Warrington
I've rewatched it recently.

The Rag Trade was fantastic .
We used to watch it just to hear Miriam Karlin 's raspy voice. I've known women just like her and oh so funny !

Eloethan Tue 04-Feb-25 19:08:33

Rowan & Martin's Laugh In - Lilly Tomlin, in her best voice, on the phone - "Is this the person to whom I am speaking?"

Not as far back as some of these comedies but I really liked "Lead Balloon" with Jack Dee. Even more recently "Bad Move", again with Jack Dee, Kerry Godliman co-starring.

It makes me realise how many really funny comedies there have been over the years. I don't find so many comedies funny now. Some of them are, in my opinion, very crude, which I could probably overlook if they were funny but many of them aren't. I did, though, love Fleabag and Alma's Not Normal (which could be very racy at times). My favourite is Motherland - and over Christmas my granddaughter and I watched all the series of Outnumbered, which at the time it was being shown, I didn't particularly like as I thought the kids were unbelievably insufferable. I enjoyed it this time round though.

Just wondering if anyone watched the US sitcom ‘Everybody loves Raymond’, used to be on early mornings on channel 4, we watched it whilst having breakfast.

Yes, I used to watch ELR.

DH said he didn’t like it but I’d see him smiling behind his paper 😂

MayBee70 Tue 04-Feb-25 15:45:59

I loved Jam and Jerusalem. Also Dinner Ladies and Ab Fab. I never really watched Only Fools and Horses. I did like Bread, Butterflies and My Family.

MissAdventure Tue 04-Feb-25 15:42:41

Oh, me too!
Kicking Bishop Brennon up the arse, grin

Babs03 Tue 04-Feb-25 13:29:30

Yes I have never been a fan of Mrs Brown’s boys.
But loved father Ted.

Granmarderby10 Tue 04-Feb-25 13:14:27

Mrs Merton was a good’n and someone mentioned Jam and Jerusalem- (comedy/drama) great characters, situations and actors.

I remember Hilda Baker well in Nearest and Dearest- (“get pickling/ and all her malapropisms such as “don’t doorstep my darken again”! And Jimmy Jewels character- his insults such as “ yer knock kneed knackered old nose bag”!

Anyone remember The Lovers?
It starred Richard Beckinsale and Paula Wilcox

Not a comedy but someone mentioned Mackenzie from 1980s featuring Tracey Ulman I did follow that one as was never that keen on Dallas or any of those similar “ shoulder pads” American series.
We did watch the long running American comedy “Soap”though …( confused? You will be)..just because it was so daft.

And there were many Wendy Craig vehicles for comedy we always watched when I was little.

Afraid that I did used to laugh out loud at “It Ain’t Half Hot Mum” blush

Ooh just thought of another “offbeat” sit-com called “Watching”.
..but I absolutely loathe Mrs (sodding) Brown 😣…just sayin…

MissAdventure Tue 04-Feb-25 11:52:38

I never watched Mrs Merton.
Think I may have missed out.

MissAdventure Tue 04-Feb-25 11:51:24

It's the bitter sweet moments.
Rodney's desperation to make a good impression, as well as how funny it is.
smile

Rainbow1235 Tue 04-Feb-25 11:50:27

And just realised Bryan Murphy was in mrs Merton and Malcolm . With Caroline adherne and Craig cash . That was very funny xx

Rainbow1235 Tue 04-Feb-25 11:47:21

Ah yes Cassandra dropping him home and she sat in car waiting for him to go into house . Hiliarius smile

MissAdventure Tue 04-Feb-25 11:44:41

Have checked and it is true.

MissAdventure Tue 04-Feb-25 11:15:18

I hope my info was correct.
I was scanning online news, and saw it in a small paragraph somewhere.

I'd better go and check.

MissAdventure

I've just read that Brian Murphy, aka George from man about the house, has died.

Yes he was comedy gold in Man About the House and George and Mildred.
RIP

MissAdventure Tue 04-Feb-25 11:00:20

There's just so many golden moments.
Batman and Robin.
The hang gliding.
Cassanrda dropping Rodney "home".
Del holding Damien up to the window when he was born, and telling him "When you get the hump, and you will do... I'll cheer you up"

Rainbow1235 Tue 04-Feb-25 10:54:41

The jolly boys outing was my favourite when the bus blew up and they bumped into Raquel in a club . smile

MissAdventure Tue 04-Feb-25 10:36:20

Grandmabatty

Has anybody mentioned 'Only Fools and Horses '? I loved it.

Me too.
Some of the funniest, well executed moments ever, I think. smile
Leaning on the bar... Del's french... Trigger...

TheWeirdoAgain59 Tue 04-Feb-25 10:17:30

I remember A Sharp Intake of Breath with David Jason.
