Morning all from a very sunny - for a change- Ashford in Kent! Marydoll I hope all is well with the little one. What a strange episode. Hopefully it won’t happen again. I began a new proofreading project yesterday- a book about Lord Nelson. I know very little about him as he wasn’t on the Scottish school curriculum. I will learn something new! I got a text calling me for an ultrasound scan on the lumps on my back which a nurse discovered on Hogmanay while examining my backache. So a trip to Folkestone on 8th Feb - a Saturday - so no rugby for me. Scotland plays Ireland at the same time as the appointment.
DH has been on night shift this week so I have not been getting a good sleep. He wakes me when he comes home, when he sorts out something to eat ( elephant in the kitchen! )and then again when he comes to bed. Hopefully he will be on days next week, we never know until Friday. He is the ‘spare’ on the roster so fills in where needed. This time next year he may well be retired, he hasn’t decided yet. He is an HGV driver.
Have a good day all. Hope the sun is shining elsewhere!

Liberty and harrigran 💐 tough times for you worrying over family members. You too MD hope Dollie is fully recovered now and your shattered nerves can steady!

‘SatNag’ hollysteers! Brilliant! 😂

hollysteers Thu 30-Jan-25 10:30:44

Good morning Mick and all from 6° Sunnyside northwest coast. Nice lunch with pop singer cousin yesterday at country pub. Following my ‘Satnag’ as I call it, I found myself on a single track road with large cars and vans approaching🙄. I took another route home…

Cousin had brought a massive family tree which opened up like a medieval roll. Very interesting (only to family of course).
My stomach was still dicky, so I chose the smallest, blandest meal on the menu, all paid for by him.
Sorry to hear about your sister Liberty and thoughts to all🌺

Redcar Thu 30-Jan-25 10:27:03

marydoll what a horrible shock for you yesterday, I hope dollie is better today and not suffering any ill effects. I hope the whirling dervish behaves herself today! I well remember DD2 sitting in the road & refusing to move. Happy Days!

Scapa1 Thu 30-Jan-25 09:47:41

Oh Marydoll how awful for Dollie and your family. You must have been so relieved to see her afterwards. Family certainly know how to put us through the wringer!
Looks like another great day here in Dunblane, blue skies and sunshine. We had a lovely lunch at Gloagburn Farm near Perth yesterday and enjoyed a nice run home via Crief afterwards. It was a change from the gloomy weather of late. DS is working from here today as they are having alterations done and there will be no power today. We will have to keep out of his way though as he has conference calls to take. Glad to feel we still have some use 🤣. Dgd2 comes here after school today anyway so she may have to limit her snack intake as daddy will know what she has! Aren’t grannies awful although she does get healthy things too. Hope everybody has as good a day as possible.

Oopsadaisy1 Thu 30-Jan-25 09:37:54

Good morning from a cold and frosty morning but plenty of sunshine, long may it last.

Opticians this morning then going to an Italian restaurant for lunch, MzOops returns from London today so I’ll have to shop for Vegan and Gluten free something or other from the supermarket whilst we are in town.
Or it will be vegetable soup again…..homemade but I’m sure she will be fed up with it by now.

Marydoll 💐

Have a good day everyone, let’s hope the sun shines on us all.

TheWeirdoAgain59 Thu 30-Jan-25 09:25:19

Good morning, Michael12 and everyone!

It's 9:13am here in Appleby and very cold and frosty but beautiful! I'm sat at the kitchen table wrapped in my jacket and woolly scarf and Beanie hat hugging a hot water bottle and a mug of hot chocolate! I'm not one for having the heating on unless it's bone-breaking cold so am happy to sit here shivering!

I had another visit from my lovely ghost last night! Various things happening over the years, seems to be once every couple of weeks or so.

I like my house to be tidy so I made sure I closed my magazine and put it back on the rack and fluffed up the settee cushions and did the bit of washing up, dried and put it all away.

I'd left a book on my desk but not on the edge and went to bed about 11:15pm. Around 12:30am I went into the livingroom for some pain killers and the book was now on the floor in front of the settee, which is opposite my desk! It couldn't have slipped off and walked several inches to the settee! There was no big vibrations like a huge truck going past to vibrate it off the desk, even if it did fall off it couldn't have plonked itself in front of the settee so it looks like Gary or Gloria the Ghost strikes again! As always, I'm not frightened, I just think things are hilarious!

I made friends with a gorgeous and HUGE German Shepherd yesterday! He's called Dukey and OMG he's so handsome! Lovely soft fur, beautiful smile and big brown eyes! He stood up on his back legs with his front legs around me and we had a jolly good kiss and cuddle!

Good morning an icy cold one here in the East Anglian fenlands

I have my Pilates class this morning, lots of new faces there at the moment and lost a few of the regulars for one reason or another.

I have decided to start a neighbours Book Club. There are only 8 ladies in our little road all of similar age . The men have a breakfast club on a Friday morning so we will have our own club meeting in the local pub once a month to hopefully discuss our latest read, wine & chat. However the initial response is I don’t read but will come for wine and chat😂 We will see how it goes. I thought a different format in that maybe we all read something of our own choice and share with the group instead of having a set book! That way we can recommend to others and allows for individual reading tastes. Will see how it works, it hopefully will be a good social evening with neighbours coming together!

MD goodness what a shock, 🌺

Hope everyone has the best day possible. Take care.

Good morning from a bright and frosty Co Armagh
Mass shortly , candles will be lit

glammagran Thu 30-Jan-25 09:12:16

I’m glad you enjoyed the Whalebone Theatre FGT2. It was very sad on the whole. And long.

glammagran Thu 30-Jan-25 09:09:13

Good morning from sunny Wiltshire (for a change).

DD2 had an MRI scan yesterday. Having been told she would have to wait at least 18 months for one, we paid for it privately. She has been getting headaches and losing feeling in her limbs. Her GP insists it’s migraine. She should get results next week.

A couple of days ago I made some raspberry jam using all the frozen raspberries which were buried in the freeezer in the garage. It turned out beautifully - my first attempt at jam. Today will be marmalade making. I haven’t done any for 3 years now. I’ve tried to get Seville oranges several times and then did an online shop with Waitrose who delivered 3 packs of them. The driver said they flew off the shelves every time the shop had a delivery in store. Haven’t done any for 3 years now.

A terrible shock for you all MD - I hope Dollie is fully recovered now. Glad your little GS is on the mend Bella and your cold clears up quickly.

Have a good day everyone.

Grandmabatty Thu 30-Jan-25 09:06:20

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 3° and bright. Marydoll what a fright for everyone! I hope Dolly is ok. Pantglas enjoy your unexpected trip.
Yesterday, I was working in the school library, when dgs1's class appeared. It's a multi purpose space and they were practising for their Scots event which will happen today. He was really surprised to see me and came over for a hug (with his teacher's permission.) I asked if they would rather I disappear, but the teachers were happy to carry on. I now remember why I didn't teach primary children! It was like herding cats. Anyway I look forward to hearing them all again today. On the way out of school, I saw dgs2 busy in the nursery garden. He was not inclined to stop for a chat through the fence because he was busy tidying up grandma. He did ask if I was picking him up and wasn't happy when I said no, I wasn't. He's not a fan of his grandad and prefers his other granny.
Bellasnana it's so annoying where your mind goes in the middle of the night, isn't it? Last night I woke just after two and ended up getting up for a cuppa at three, hence the late posting from me. I will potter about this morning then go to dgs1's school for the Scots event. Dd can't go because she is on a training day in her office in another town. I'll have to phone an aerial fitter because I'm losing channels after the storm and also dig something out of the freezer for dinner. Have a good day all.

Susan56 Thu 30-Jan-25 09:00:55

Good morning from Shropshire.A chilly start but sun forecast later.

Marydoll, what an awful shock for you.Thank goodness Dollie is ok.

A very lazy day yesterday which did us both good.

A housekeeping morning then my good friend is coming for tea and chat this afternoon.

Wishing everyone a good day🦩

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 30-Jan-25 09:00:23

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where we have a gloriously sunny start to the day! We’ve not long been awake, dozy pair. We are enjoying TIB with GBNews on quietly in the background as we look at our iPads. Multi-taskingRUs.

Himself is meeting a friend later for coffee in the square. I have no plans which is nice as yesterday was hectic. Book club was brilliant! The book generated a lot of chat and we are a diverse and mixed aged group which helps discussion. Four are in their forties so bring a different perspective to the group and they are very confident and articulate. Our next meet is the end of March and I shall not leave reading the book ◀️. until the last minute again! That said, I hadn’t realised it was 580 pages! I will always check that on the Kindle first from now on!

Thursday = date night 🤞we will decide later where we fancy going.

harrigran Thu 30-Jan-25 08:51:27

Good morning from the NE where the sun is now shining.
My sister and BIL visited yesterday, seven weeks to the day since her accident. She still has problems but was relieved to be able to leave the house for a while.
Nothing planned for today so maybe some light housework.
What a shock Marydoll pleased Dollie is okay.
Have a good day.

RosesandLilac Thu 30-Jan-25 08:43:36

Good morning everyone, clear blue sky here in south Glos, it’s looking chilly here.
I’m off to the hairdresser this morning then I need to collect dog food from the country store and I have art group this afternoon.
Wishing everyone a lovely day 🌹

BlueSapphire Thu 30-Jan-25 08:38:09

Good morning everyone from a very bright and sunny 🌞 Northampton, but feeling chilly as I noticed my heating had come on before I got up.

Nothing much to report from Book club yesterday; none of us really liked the book (Good Material by Dolly Alderton) which we felt did not live up to the blurb on its cover and was disappointing.
So the rest of the afternoon was spent enjoying a fresh cream sponge and general chit-chat!

Sainsbury's delivery later this morning, then will spend the afternoon enjoying Richard Coles' Murder before Evensong.
Veggie chilli for dinner tonight.

Hope today goes well.

Jaxjacky Thu 30-Jan-25 08:36:54

Morning from a frosty S Hants, at WI last night I learnt how to knit, nothing stunning, just the basics, I’ll finish up my square today.
Stretch class in an hour, then I have an M&S parcel to collect, it’s in the food hall, temptation!
Thank you for opening this thread daily Mick good your health is settled.
🦩🦩

Kalu Thu 30-Jan-25 08:34:13

Good morning all. 1deg with a light frost and pink skies in Glasgow this morning with the promise of sunshine all day.

A few phone calls to make and some draft legal paperwork to read and sign. No grocery shopping today as I did so yesterday at Sainsbury’s before filling my car up with diesel. The gridlock of traffic took forever to return home. Hairdressers at 3.00pm then my ‘night out’ at the cinema with DD1.

Oh thank god Dollie is ok MD. What a nightmare for her parents and horrible news for you. I hope you feel a bit better today. Thankfully you won’t have a long journey to have bloods done.
What a great surprise Pantglas all the better as you were not expecting to whizz off to sunnier climes.
Enjoy the rest of your holiday Brook, it sounds blissful.

Best wishes to all for a good/better day.

Taichinan Thu 30-Jan-25 08:31:09

Good morning all. As usual I'm rushing to go to tai chi so haven't time to read the thread properly. However I did notice your tale about Dolly Marydoll. What a shock for everybody but so glad she has recovered with no ill-effects.
My DGS1 saw his oncologist the other day and was given overnight to decide if they might want a brother or sister for Li'l Ollie because if so he would need to store sperm before his treatment begins. I'm so glad that they have decided to go ahead with that - how awful if they hadn't and then wished later that they had.
Anyway, there's a clear blue sky over the Angus coast this morning, so a lovely day ahead. I shall pop back at lunchtime and read the your posts, but in the meantime wish you all a happy day x

Gingster Thu 30-Jan-25 08:28:54

Good morning all and it’s bright and sunny here in Essex.

Oh Marydoll how frightening for you all. Thank goodness she got well checked over and there’s nothing untoward.🙏.

GG take it easy and hopefully the meds will work their magic.

Dd had the all clear results from the PET scan she had 6 weeks ago. Thank goodness but why does it take soooo long!

Had a fun packed session at Choir last night. Our ‘master’ keeps us on our toes with his expertise, laughter and humour. He’s 37 and so talented. We all come home uplifted and happy. Lots of gigs /concerts organised this year in aid of various charities . We’re called The Busketeers .

Today I have bowls, Dd and DGD will come for tea and then it’s the Brownies drop off and pick up. The hall is only 5 minutes away but the traffic at that time is a nightmare and can take half an hour 😢. We will walk when the weather and dark evenings are passed, but it is up a very steep hill 🥵.

Take care everyone.🌱

ginny Thu 30-Jan-25 08:22:43

Good morning from N. Bucks where it is dry and bright .
We have youngest DGS (3) today. We will walk down to town and take him to a group where he can play with his friends for an hour or so. Then a little shop for lunch He likes to have a shopping list and select items for his basket. We will ick his brother up from school later. They have been very good but I’m sure they will be pleased to see their Mummy before bedtime.
I’ll have A quiet evening painting some birthday cards.
Oh*Marydoll*your life seems full of dramas. I hope today is better.
Wishing all a good day with a smile along the way.

GrannySomerset Thu 30-Jan-25 08:13:28

U3A book group this morning, man - at laser - to look at the water leak in the kitchen, so important events. Better get up and be organised then.

What a frightening day yesterday, Marydoll, hope there is no more excitement to come. Looks cold but sunny here and the forecast is dry. All encouraging.

Grammaretto Thu 30-Jan-25 08:05:28

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. Freezing 🥶
The plasterers are here already to finish what they were doing yesterday. I had to climb over tools, buckets and debris last night to find my bed.

I may escape again today.

So sorry about your terrifying day Marydoll. It must have been very shocking. I hope today is kinder to you and for everyone who has troubles.

Bonnybanko enjoy your breakfast.
Brook, enjoy the rest of your lovely
holiday.

What a nice surprise Pantglas!

I have discovered I'll have to miss a family occasion in March as I have booked a weekend away. D**n!

Wishing you all a good day.

Georgesgran Thu 30-Jan-25 08:02:44

Good morning from Durham. A bit of sun expected after a very cold start to the day. I thought it was Friday when I woke - duh!

I’m meeting my second oldest friend for coffee this morning. We started work on the same day in 1970 and have been through family births, deaths, marriages and divorces together.
I’ll walk Little Dog later and probably take him home tonight.
Ash when I did my tax return, they demanded an Advance Payment of half as much again! Other posters on a different thread had done this in other years, but it was a first (and shock) for me.
💐MD what a day! Poor Dollie, but poor you too.

Best wishes to all. X
