From a book read on a radio station. Children playing in east London street in 1960s and a little girl asks her mother if she can show Elizabeth round. Mum is upstairs and says OK. Hears Elizabeth saying ooh whats that several times. Comes downstairs and is horrified at how filthy she is. Put her in the bath and her clothes were crawling with lice so she burned them. Dressed her in daughters clothes but kept her headband. Then Elizabeth disappears. Daughter said she was in the toilet but she was gone. The headband was from 1850s.so she went back in clean clothes and had no idea where she had been.

A time traveller.

Aye, right.
I thought you claimed it was a true story. hmmhmmhmm

Straight out of Dr Who then.

So a dirty, unkempt, little girl from the Victorian era discovered a way of travelling into the future and landed in the 1960s. OK.

Ah, but she might be a child from the future who nipped back to Victorian Britain then popped into 1960s London because she felt grubby and wanted a bath and change of clothes.

Back to the future, time traveller's wife - it happens. I've seen the film and read the books so it's true.

Why is everybody so obsessed with the British royal family???
I don't understand this mindless devotion towards any of them, living or dead.
Also why are they mentioned at all in this mysterious, strange tale!
Most peculiar. 🤔

Ilovedogs22 Not "everybody" is obsessed with the British royals, why do you say that? Most peculiar. I'm not obsessed for a start and I am sure I am not alone.

I lovedogs mention of the Queen with regards to the OP makes complete sense. The child in the story is called Elizabeth.
Many of us will remember the news item from the time when the Queen visited people who had been newly housed in council houses.
Nothing to do with 'being obsessed' at all.

Not obsessed at all, but I do like them, and the name Elizabeth could well have been relevant.

Yes, very peculiar indeed.

Anyway, perhaps it was Elizabeth Hurley.
Or Elizabeth Taylor
Elizabeth Barrett-Browning
Elizabeth Fry
Or my friend Elizabeth
Or my Great-Aunt Elizabeth.

The point is that Elizabeth II was the most famous woman in the world so immediately comes to mind. Her mother, Elizabeth wife of George VI, visited the East End during WW2 and she was a Victorian.

Equally, why do you assume posters who mention the Royal Family even in passing, are somehow obsessed.

It seems to be an obsession with some posters that they think thus.

Assuming this story is true. I wonder what she thought of the 1960s swirly carpets, geometric wallpaper, bright coloured bath and toilet, the tv and fridge.

If I could be a time traveller, I would love to be present at the Old Bailey on the day my husband’s grandfather was sentenced to prison in the 1940s. I personally think it was a miscarriage of justice by the County Council which represent the British Crown.

And travelled to the SE Asia to see my grandfather’s house and this chandelier that my dad mentioned to me when I was young before it was seized by the Japanese military and used as their communication centre and then bombed by the allies during WW2.

RosieandherMaw Wed 12-Feb-25 14:33:59

Hate to disillusion you @OP-, but time travellers are NOT true (nor is the tooth fairy or Easter Bunny)

Allira Wed 12-Feb-25 15:08:51

I'm going to time travel back to the time my GreatX3 Grandfather was sentenced to six months in prison for receiving part of a sheep, SporeRB. Not a whole sheep, just part of one - was it a nice roasting piece or stewing mutton? Why didn't he get transported instead?

RosieandherMaw sorry, but I have seen the Easter Bunny so I know he's real. I have photographic evidence.

Deep Fake @ Allira !

No, really, it's true.
I took the photograph! 😁
