54 Year Old Woman visited by Police

A 54 year old woman was visited by Police because she posted a criticism on social media about the the Labour politician who shared offensive messages on a What’sApp group. Should we be careful what we say on GN? 😬

Of course there are policewomen in Manchester but police are thin on the ground and a female may not have been available or suitable. It was probably a good idea to send two officers for the very reason of this thread so that there isn't any backlash from the woman that another office can dispute.
The police only will know the truth of what happened.

Well, their side of the story at least.

Good post Churchview
People always seem to be able to do the job of the police better. I wonder how they would fare in some situations our police have to face in their work.

What does her age have to do with it?

Well, I was going to ask how much her house was worth 😁

"54 year old grandmother Helen, standing outside her £350,000 house in wherever, told our reporter she had been traumatised by a visit by two plains clothes police officers after an innocent message she had posted in a WhatsApp group had been reported by a busybody."

In the meantime the crime rate in Greater Manchester is one of the highest in the country, shopkeepers are terrorised by shoplifters, vandalism is rife and three out of four crimes are not investigated by police.

The police said they'd taken two days to get to this woman as they'd prioritised other more important issues and had been making over 200 arrests for assault, rape and burglary during that time.

Seems like the police can't do the right thing for trying.
Should have sent a woman.
Shouldn't have called.
Only one of them should have called.

Honestly - I wish people would read between the lines of articles and not just blow up at the headlines. It's because we do this (I am as guilty as anyone) that the papers are so adept at manipulating us.

Why pick on that tongue-in-cheek post? GrannyMoll asked what her age had got to do with it and the answer is - nothing.

It's a pastiche of usual media reports. " Said 35 year old, statuesque blonde Allira, standing in front of her Queen Anne mansion".

According to the GB news website she had also posted racist messages and joked about a cycling campaigner being "mown down by a truck".

Sounds like a lovely individual.

Apparently IT WAS THE LABOUR MP THAT SAID THAT according to a source on Gransnet!!!

yes, i acknowledged that a few pages ago, no need to yell

😁

Sorry, I missed that ilovecheese. Apologies, but it was theworriedwell who repeated your post.

I only yelled because the other poster said 'do I have to shout' because posters kept repeating the mistake.

I'm not usually a shouter.

They wouldn't send just one man to see a woman for obvious reasons. As has been said before we don't know what was said and only have this woman's version of events so we can't say it's overkill.
We don't know the police's version of events so everything is based on the story the woman has told to the Daily Mail .

Are they no policewoman in Gtr. Manchester?

What I do find strange is two detectives calling at her house when uniformed police officers are single crewed and they're at the sharp end.

Yes, that struck me too.

^ā€One might think they'd look at the posts and make a sensible decisionā€^
Allira

Maybe that’s what they did.

As we don’t know all the true details, everything is conjecture.

It was over-kill LizzieDrip.

So, if someone reported this woman’s SM post(s) to the police as harassment, what are the police supposed to do? Should they just ignore the complaint so as not to ā€˜upset’ the poster?

One might think they'd look at the posts and make a sensible decision.
If it was Gwynne or one of his associates it is totally hypocritical shock

Visgir1 Sun 23-Feb-25 15:30:20

I just opened up the link... "Police conceded that the 54-year-old had committed no crime – yet Mrs Jones says she has effectively been silenced by the officers, as she was intimidated by them calling at her door" so is this necessarily going to stop her, or just be careful in the future?

Allira Sun 23-Feb-25 15:27:18

The police refused to confirm that it was Andrew Gwynne or his partner who had made the complaint about the WhatsApp message.

If it was him, he should be ashamed of himself.

I suppose someone reported the woman’s SM comments to the police as harassment / racist or whatever; therefore the police would be obliged to follow it up.

I wonder what she said?
Some of the things that get posted on here ( & elsewhere ) about Farage & Trump are awful.

And about Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves too!

Well, much as I dislike Trump and his politics, I have been 😯 by some posts hoping he will meet his demise soon.

We can think things but writing them on social media is a different matter.

It was on GBNews this morning. The woman said on FB (I don’t use it, I didn’t see it) that the councillors in Southport ought to stand down. Two policemen knocked at her door (verified) to caution her not to post such views in future. As GBNews commenters said surely the Police should concentrate their efforts on burglaries etc.

Two police officers? shock
Can they spare two at a time to go out together?
