Good morning everyone from south Manchester where it Chucked it down during the wee small hours, woke me up around 3am and I couldn’t drift back off for ages. Excitement possibly! 😂

I only need to potter about, put some bits in my handbag and think we might go into the Loungers below for a cooked breakfast then ring for a taxi for 1pm. Yippee! ✈️ ‘see you’ in the morning from our happy place in Málaga where the weather is looking pretty mixed! 😮

Good morning Mick and all from the Scottish Borders where there is frost on the grass.

Enjoy your holiday FGT 😄
I hope that the hospital calls you today Marydoll when you are not at everyone else's beck and call!

I was so busy on Monday that it was 10am yesterday before i realised it wasn't Wednesday.
Finding I had an extra day I returned my shoes bought in haste, joined the gym at the oldies cheap rate, even tried to buy greenhouse glass to replace the storm damage failed
I wrote to a bookseller about them taking some of DH's "library"
I even went to Gaelic class in the evening.
Today is Wednesday hooray!
Have a good one everybody.

Good morning from soggy South Lanarkshire.

Thinking of Bella’s grandson, Marydoll, Auntieflo and the FGTs.

Shame about your tooth Kalu, hope you get it fixed soon.

Grandmabatty your little grandson is a hoot, frustrating but funny.

I was so tired last night that I skipped my yarn group, I’m still shattered after a wakeful night. Hope it passes, I really dislike feeling like this but I have no plans today so perhaps a quiet day will do the trick.

I’m sorry to hear that Mizuna has left us.

Anyhoo, have the best day possible everyone.

Good morning from a moody looking County Durham.

Yesterday was busy, four GC to entertain at home. Unfortunately we can't fit them all in the car to venture out, so had to make do with the local area. GD 1 and 2 spent some time baking then painting, whilst the boys went to visit the den they have created in a nearby wood, with DH. They use it to collect their "finds", bits of brick, parts from old metal buckets, an old milk bottle, nails, chunks of cement and pottery. Colliery housing once stood on the site so the boys go searching for remnants of the past and place them in their museum den. At least the activity kept them away from their ipads for a while.

Today we're off to Kielder for the day. On our own again for a wander about with possibly a lunch stop somewhere nice.

Enjoy your happy place FGT. Safe travels. Take things easy Marydoll. I hope you get some helpful advice from your hospital.

Wishing all a peaceful day.

Morning from a wet S Hants, sun yesterday, but the wind in the shade was quite nippy. I had a lovely lunch out with a friend, a welcome fire right next to our table, then I had my hair trimmed, it needs washed today to settle it.
Today is book club, then I’m getting my ears de waxed, so tedious and not cheap.
Best wishes to the poorlies and FGT have a smooth flight and one for me 🍷 later this evening.

Good morning Mick and all GN'S from a wet and grey north yorkshire . Missed looking for the planetary line up last night and if it says like this today , wont get much chance to try again tonight! However they say we have until the weekend to see them so will try tomorrow.

Yesterday I tried to do various things to improve matters, but the day went from bad to worse. Frustrating, as couldnt get hold of people I needed to speak to. Went to a new class to try and sort out the laptop more and to fill in some digital skills holes, but it ended up with the lecturer wanting me to upgrade my laptop and when we attempted to do it, it then would not let me get onto the internet, and it was near the end of the class and so I had to put it in sleep mode as it wouldnt let me connect with the internet there. Was very worried as in particular I have a lot of photos which my husband had taken and do not yet know how to move things around and hoped I wouldnt lose them.

Called in at Upfront where one of our techy genius chaps was there fortunately and we got it sorted out to a certain extent, but I was so frustrated that I could have chucked it all through the window!! So basically made a lot of effort and the result of the day was nothing positive at all.

I was tempted not to go to the games night, I was so fed up with the day, but fortunately I had said that I would go to another player so do not like to go back on my word. So got myself all wrapped up and visible and set off on the yellow peril to join in. It was the best thing I could have done. There were not a lot of people there last night and they were happy to play a game that is new to me, and accept that I would be slower than they were in their turns.

They have various different games, some are very spatial in style, and others are quite complicated, which I can see once I have the basic idea are rather chess like. So you can have several different goals at the same time. To move your character to an advantageous spot, whilst collecting a variety of objects, which then allow you to buy other things or make other players have to pay you something. So it is really rather like that idea of patting your head whilst rubbing your stomach round and round. There is not one single goal and of course when you are up to date with the play then you are also looking at other players things and scheming how to spoil there luck whilst improving your own.

The great thing about it is , for me, that you have to concentrate on about 3 or 4 different possibilities at once, and that meant no time to brood over the days events , concentrating on learning the basics and at the same time beginning to understand possible strategies for the future.

They meet up every tuesday evening, and play various different games according to how many people there are there and what they want to play, so there is going to be quite a lot for me to learn. It is also very nice to meet a group of people doing something with their brains and just for a couple of hours politics and the doom and gloom of situations can be put aside. It was very cold on the way back but was in a much better mental place and see that I really do need to get out and meet people. When you are on your own things can just get on top of y ou.

So this morning I have already sorted through all the bed linen, as I had double and single sheets and duvet covers etc. So have sorted through them and put the stuff I am not using at the moment elsewhere and so the things that I need are now easily accessible. Then despite the rain , I have put the washer on and that is rumbling along, and if it clears up I might get it out to dry, but if not it will have to go on the clothes horse to dry.

Nothing you could call exciting or brilliant, but just getting anything done is worthwhile and I want to try and get a bit straighter, as next week I go for a measuring about the cataracts and whenever I actually get the operation, will have to think about putting drops in and what I can and cant do .

How cheering to think it is March next week. My mother used to say stop wishing your life away, but really february has had nothing to recommend it this year for me! My friend of 77 years has her birthday in March and we have usually met for lunch somewhere, but think it may have to be postponed this year, as I cant drive and have no dates for operation or hospital appointments so cant organise anything for the moment.

Just had a Victor Meldrew moment, as a man with a ladder has just walked past the window, and I think it is the window cleaner , but cant believe he is going to attempt to clean windows in the rain!!

Hope you are feeling a little better today Marydoll and that you get another call from the hospital. Bellasnana, hope you ar also feeling a little better in yourself. Wishing everyone something cheering for today and I think in horrible weather a toasted teacake with some decent coffee is definitely a mood raiser to me! Best wishes for a good day everyone

Good morning everyone from a very wet Northampton; glad I don't have to go out today; I should have been, but book club has been cancelled due to illness.

Made a spur of the moment decision early yesterday morning to go to Milton Keynes, so didn't have time to post anything.
It was a lovely sunny day, got the early bus and was in MK by 11am.
Had a nice day browsing the shops; got gift wrap, a card and bag for DS's birthday, which is today.
Also got some make-up I had been thinking about for some time. Then headed to Ask for lunch and🍷.
Then to M&S to spend some vouchers; my haul was two pairs of trousers, a bright red jumper and a t-shirt!
Then a weary journey home on the bus.

Now book club has been cancelled today there's only a Sainsbury's delivery this morning to look forward to. And I am planning on making a chicken hotpot for dinner.
And I must message DS to wish him a happy birthday; he is 46 today, where have all those years gone!

Wishing all a pleasant day.

A late good morning Mick and everybody. We are certainly getting the best of the weather on the east side of the country - another lovely sunny morning, this time accompanied by a heavy frost.
What a lot of illness and unwell-ness on here! I hope everyone has a speedy recovery - at least to a comfortable level.
No word of DGS1 so I expect all is going to plan with his daily chemo treatment. L'le Ollie will have been handed on to exhaust his other grandparents!
DGD1, who used to be known as Dancing GD, has at last landed her first full-time job as a waitress in a small cafe. A step onto the hospitality ladder, which is the way she has decided she wants to go.
I'm meeting DGD3 for lunch and a catch-up in Dundee today which is always a pleasure.
So off I must trot. I shall think of you at 1pm FGT as your taxi arrives to take you to the airport. Have a lovely time away in your happy place - the weather there will be a better sort of 'mixed' than here 😁

GrannySomerset Wed 26-Feb-25 10:08:09

Wet and windy again after a reasonable day yesterday - we don’t seem to get two consecutive dry days but the daffodils are bursting forth and spring has definitely arrived in the garden. Singing this afternoon the highlight of the day; in the meantime I hope Marydoll gets some satisfaction from the medical profession and that FGT has a smooth journey to what must be better weather than we are having.

Good morning from Sunnyside 8°C northwest coast.
Arrived home from the south around 4 yesterday. My DD drove me to Euston which was kind. I usually take the train and tube, but she went the extra mile(s) and made a packed lunch and a flask of coffee. No problems with train, on time although my seat faced backwards which I’m not keen on. I like looking at the countryside on these trips, but the train is rather fast for sightseeing…

Good to see my little cat again and she seemed very pleased to see me. My sister has just taken a black cat on board and I’m interested to hear how she’s settling down.
My gardener/handyman has cleared a section of the back garden, which is rather wild.

Bon voyage FGT and thoughts to Bella Auntieflo and all🌺

Morning GNers from an overcast Ashford in Kent. As Marydoll would say I have an ‘empty’ today. Nothing exciting planned, DH is on night shift again this week. I’m really looking forward to him retiring probably in a year’s time. He’s five years younger than me and still loves driving HGVs so I’m not pushing him. As Marydoll has reported we were on the phone last night for two hours , first time in nearly 50 years we’ve spoken. I think both of us benefited from it in terms of giving us a boost. She lives in my home town in Scotland so we had quite a time catching up with other mutual friends, church news and school gossip. I think the universe was telling us to be in contact and I think Marydoll had heard that too. She was saying that just lately several other schoolmates had drifted into view. Strange! Both of us have been under the weather recently and I think this was just the right medicine.
Have a good day all. And if you’ve been putting off phoning someone or thinking about someone you haven’t spoken to in a long time - do it! It’s good for your health!
