LPG & Cooking

I have a bog standard Hotpoint dual fuel cooker. The hob had to be changed to LPG (no natural gas in the middle of nowhere!). Even at its lowest setting, the smallest burner boils everything. There is no such position as simmer. The gas man has turned to adjuster down as low as it will go.

I thought that I will have to get some sort of trivet to raise the pans up. I googled for my answer but was fairly banjaxed. I am guessing that the trivet will need to be about two inches above the burner.

Any suggestions? Advice? Gratefully accepted.

I cooked with LPG at my last house. Standard gas hob, no problems. There must be a fault with your hob. Have you contacted the retailer?

I am really surprised by this. We had a LPG cooker in our house in France and as LPG is less calorific than natural gas,I found everything cooked that little bit more slower.

I have consulted DH and he says gas cookers burning LPG need different sized jets to those used when burning natural gas. The LPG jets are smaller.

It sounds to me as if your gas man has not checked the size of the jets in your cooker and you are currently burning LPG through oversized natural gas jets.

Here is a link to an article from a gas jet supplier explaining it
