It’s not Pancake Day!

We had Scotch pancakes for breakfast yesterday (DGD was here) and savoury crêpes for dinner. Overkill, perhaps?

I love Scotch pancakes for breakfast.

Pancake day yesterday for DH and I consisted of 2 gluten free pancakes each then filled with sausage, bacon mushrooms and beans with a poached egg on top. Yummy!

Depending on the households beliefs it can be Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Day. Always was and will be Pancake day in my house.

Not everyone is religious. To those of us who are not, it’s pancake day. - and yes, I know what shrove Tuesday etc is all about. I was raised Roman Catholic. Do enjoy your religion, but don’t push it on to others!

You will be amused that my pancakes went down extremely well in the church venue for the FAB cafe. The vicar ate 6 pancakes with great gusto and not a trace of remorse or thought for the privations of Lent…

Going back to the original topic of re-labelling Shrove Tuedday Pancake Day, I feel a bit sad when I hear children everywhere referring to Children in Need Day as Pudsey Day. It seems that the real sentiment of the day is lost on them

No time for Christianity or any other religion as it happens. No tolerance for random religious people telling me what I should do, believe or say.

It is referred to at all in our house it is Pancake Day. Not that we ever have milk or eggs in the house anyway.

Shrove Tuesday really comes from the verb to shrive or to be shriven . People made pancakes in order to use up all the left over food so that during Lent they could be in their eating habits with Lent finally culminating in the feast of Easter .
It is possible that Whitewavemark 2: has an interest in history without needing to “ scoff “ .

Between the word be and in wrote “ abstemious “ but spell check cancelled it .

Pancake Day for me, always has been

Forty day after Christmas, the 2nd February is called La Chandeleur, Candelmas in English and is when everyone eats pancakes in France. Not on Shrove Tuesday.

Well, it isn't Pancake Day or Shrove Tuesday here, because in Denmark we eat sticky buns or cream filled ones on the Monday prior to Ash Wednesday. Pa ncakes are not traditionally connected to any holiday, here.

Anyday is a day for making pancakes, & I can buy reduced price pancakes & hotXbuns in Scotland all year round.
Xmas is a season for us, not just the name of a certain day, Many balconies still have fairy lights on daily, it brightens up our bleak & rainy world.

The Egyptian god Osiris has a resurrection story. The Norse god Odin impaled himself and hung on a tree for nine days, attaining knowledge, immortality and leadership of all the gods. You might conclude that Christianity hoovered up the best bits from all the earlier religions!
