The only one to mention a faithful relationship is you David. They were married for 60 years and it obviously worked for them both.

She has said that no words can describe the love they shared.

Barleyfields

I have no idea whether she had other relationships but I do know this is not the time or place to speak as you have David. Have some respect.

Others are lauding a faithful relationship, on his part yes not hers.

We celebrated our 60th wedding anniversary last Thursday and my DH is 82 in May so I feel very sad for Dolly, I’m not particularly a fan of her music but I love what she does for charity.

They stayed married but Dolly did her own thing throughout the relationship, its well known she had other relationships as well as a very tolerant husband.

Described well MOnica although not a great fan of her music, I quietly admired her attitude and in that world of glitz respected the longevity of their marriage

Her husband may not be a public figure but Dolly certainly is. Even people who don't especially like her music often appreciate what a genuinely warm, caring person she is. Many, like me, will feel for her in her grief.

I feel sad for anyone losing a much loved husband after 60 years of marriage.

I hope in time that fond memories will bring Dolly much comfort.

I am minded of a phrase that brings me comfort grief is the price we pay for having loved

I know Dolly Parton, only as the news portrays her. I thought this was both a sad and wonderful story.

Sad for Dolly Parton and those near to both her and her husband. But also wonderful at a time when so many show biz marriages seem to be over before they begin, that they should be together for 60 years, during which he continued earning his living in his very different day job, never seeking to be famous himself, even if only as DP's husband.

I am sure much of her success must lie with that normal stable husband back home, laying tarmac and paving slabs, who was always there for her, the person she really was, under the showbiz shell.

It is very sad for Dolly and her wider family. A long time together.

Sixty years together must be celebrated, surely- whoever the couple.
I have huge admiration and affection for Dolly Parton, who uses her wealth to good effect.

Thanks Grandmadinosaur

That’s exactly what I thought.

I’ve asked for the thread to be removed though, as it’s deemed of no interest.

No need to have the thread removed. It will fizzle out if nobody is interested.

It was a long and happy marriage it seems so Dolly has my condolences.

That’s just one persons opinion Calendargirl

I think Dolly is a much loved entertainer and people will feel for her losing her husband. I for one was sorry to read this news today.

RosieandherMaw Tue 04-Mar-25 07:39:30

People do, especially after 60 year marriages.
He wasn’t a public figure so why should this be of any interest to anybody other than we may be (and I am) sorry to hear it.

Calendargirl Tue 04-Mar-25 07:34:00

Just seen this.

Her husband of 60 or so years.

Carl Dean, 82.

He was the inspiration for her hit ‘Jolene’, apparently, about a bank teller who fancied him.

A very private marriage out of the public spotlight, but I hope it was a happy one.
